I hate when people generalize people into categories just to suit their point of view. Poverty in Nigeria is a serious case and it doesn't just exist at the youth level alone. In the article I see references to a few Nigerians that made it out of the poverty due to God, luck and hard work but for every 1 of them, I can count a 1,000 who failed, it's not that God was not their side nor were they cursed or lazy but when you put people into unfavorable circumstances and expect them to excel then the probability of success is very low.

Based on the article, one would suggest Nigerian youths are the laziest in the world but if you've seen what I've seen you might just bite your tongue and have a rethink. Come to America and I'll show you rotten youths, youths hooked on drugs, youths obsessed with gang related activities and so on, the statistic is alarming! One would easily abandon such youths and tag them as failures but the American society operates on a different level, it is a society which believes that people can be redeemed if equipped with proper elements not only for survival but for long term success. From education to healthcare, no matter the amount of debt, youths are given chances upon chances to succeed.

Now Mr. Bayo, can the same be said of the Nigerian society? Let's forget about the government, what about the private sector? What have they done to redeem the Nigerian youth? What about celebrities? What have they done to help the common man? Before we condemn our youths, let's ask ourselves what we've done to make the situation better!

I've always believed it can be Nigerians who solve problems for themselves, for the entire country on a grander scale, but maybe a niche business for themselves as well... however I take care to see who is delivering such criticism of the younger generation to do better. Lets not ignore that the challenges youth are facing are likely linked to a worthless older generation who handed their younger generation an immensely difficult set of circumstances and are now demanding they make something out of a far worse scenario.. "here, fix yourselves and Nigerian (which we've continued to screw up for generations)"

Sadly the young generation will have to. But lets not supplement the needful with a pep talk only. Lets not forget that for there to be a top, there must be people at the bottom--it's a society we continue to promote while foolishly convincing everyone they can be at the top.

I just hope d writer has contributed his quota to national development else he's no different dan d Nigerian youth

With respect to your comment, I find it flawed because many of us today are Passing . Over. Opportunities . Repeatedly (POOR).

Read an article today where the owner and founder of Alibaba (Jack Ma) who said and i quote, "If you are poor at 35, you deserve it" and it got me thinking that many of us the youths would rather spend our productive time doing unproductive things from watching football or TV shows or something else rather than reading up on the latest trends in the world, how to solve problems, understand a business idea that has been proffered to them or attend a business class that will be of benefit to them. It's just crazy.

Been guilty of this and I decided a while back when someone opened my eyes to take responsibility for my future and shape it because my parents desires are now my turn offs and the same is likely to happen with my kids.

Case in point, picture this, it was a pride and Joy for our parents to work in manufacturing industries/schools/civil service(NITEL, Former NEPA etc) in those days. However, most of our generation today do not want that. Our desire is for banks, Telecoms companies, oil companies etc. Some say God forbid with thoughts of offers like the ones parents enjoyed.

The offices and companies your children would work or buy over in the next 15-20 years have not been birthed yet. They would also say God forbid to the MTN's, Zenith Banks, etc you crave for today

I have found my own UBER, my own oil well and am ready to share it with all who are interested. The question is, ARE YOU INTERESTED?
