Tactically its a great Blunder for Mr Buhari to relocated the Military Central command right into sambisa forest when he knew quite well that these people are non combatants they are not infantry soldiers and their area of responsibilty covers a wider area than just boko haram. they monitor , deploy and protect both Nigeria air land and water from both internal and external aggression.

I repeat once again the Central Military Command are not combatant soldiers they are experts there you find computer scientist manning the drones and satellite images rebroadcasting Enemy troop location to the combatant soldiers on ground and the airforces, there you even find Military nuclear experts etc..

they gather information, plan and cordinate military assaults ...

Central Military Command is an intelligent unit in the Army that is where military operation is directed using satellite images .. Buhari in this single directive acted as a man who is no longer in touch with modern military techniques

Nigeria military Command Area Of Responsibilty covers the whole of Nigeria and outside Nigeria where our troops are stationed currently

so it is very much senseless to relocate such a unit with sensitive data right at the frontline as if modern military intelligent information is gotten by trekking around sambisa forest in the middle of the Night? what are military satellites for? and surveillance drones?
don't mind all this people that don't understand the technicalties of warfare, all they want to hear is 'i did this, i did that' those central command operators most of them might not have even fired their rifle for years now... Nigerians hate to hear the truth.

Contrary to the OP's position even the US, or NATO do not have one command centre!

And command centres can actually be moved as deemed fit.

Even the US CENTCOM, has about 6 regional centres or thereabout.

The one formerly in Saudi was moved to Doha, Qatar.

1. Are you more aware of military command and structure than a five star military general that had commanded troops and infantries?

2. Why do the Americans set up their command/Staff centre in the "GREEN ZONE" inside Baghdad and in Kuwait for the two Gulf wars?

3. Why did the American had their command centre at the Bagram Airport Base in Kabul Afghanistan?

He never said he was moving the DHQ. Mr. President said, and I quote "Progress has been made in recent weeks by our security forces but victory can not be achieved by basing the Command and Control Centre in Abuja. The command centre will be relocated to Maiduguri and remain until Boko Haram is completely subdued."

I believe he's referring to the Task Force Team set up to fight Boko Haram.

hotice01:
let's all put an end to all this sentimental political affiliations.
The OP is very correct, this initial move by PMB looks good short term but very bad on the long run.
The best he would have done was to order the CAS to maidugury and not the defence head quarters.By setting up a central control base in Maiduguri.
As a retired military general this is a very bad political and military move.its just for showmanship.
The defence headquarters have to be in the same location, within reach of the GCFR.
if the military cannot handle a small militia like Boko Haram without deploying its might,it gives other countries an in depth knowledge of what our military is made up of.under PMB.
I'm nonpartisan and not politically sentimental.
His first move is a goof,no sane president will undertake such h task especially with the advent of modernized warfare.
All it takes is for Boko Haram to focus its might by whatever means on the new DHQ and our security is gone.
Being a retired military General doesn't alwz translate to military genius, especially when times and methods of warfare has "changed" a lot.
wish PMB a successful tenure. GOD bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria

This wrong decision calls for us to revisit Buhari certificate scandal and how he come about his title of Major General when he is incapable of simple kindergarten Military Decision

Ifeduba ThankGod T ( political Analyst writes in from Anambra state)

you are a fool of highest order... Sit down there and be pointing errors and blunders. Since the Central command had been in Abuja what has been the result? I believe this man knows what he's doing, and mind you he's not relocating it to be there permanently, why don't you just allow him to do his work. Enemy of Change!

TANoids are back. I don't know if this 'analyst' understands that the US military structure completely differs from ours. He is relocating the command centre dealing with the Boko Haram insurgency and not the whole military.

US Central Command, US Pacific Command, US Africa Command etc are all structured to deal withUS military interests around the world depending on geography. The real CENTRAL command of the US military is the Pentagon.

This clown should just go home and lick soup.

Eziachi:
Three questions for this op
1. Are you more aware of military command and structure than a five star military general that had commanded troops and infantries?

2. Why do the Americans set up their command/Staff centre in the "GREEN ZONE" inside Baghdad and in Kuwait for the two Gulf wars?

3. Why did the American had their command centre at the Bagram Airport Base in Kabul Afghanistan?

.
very good question for the bloody civilian op that know nothing about military strategy

superstar1:

He has moved the Command Centre (not DHQ) to Maiduguri, which is the proper thing to do

The Military Command Centre is the Dhq.
