kandiikane:You cook because you are hungry and I already said the cooking could be done by the man sometimes.Having a timetable for who should cook or not would be ridiculous to me. 1 Like 1 Share |

thorpido: Who talked about timetable, are they children? You are saying the same thing she said. Like I said earlier you have confused yourself. It could be done by a man at anytime because he is human and he needs to eat so can a woman. 10 Likes |

kandiikane:I'm only using a timetable as a reference. There is nothing confusing here. There are roles a man takes up in the home and there are some the women take up too. However, those roles are flexible and can be taken up by anyone at anytime. What I'm trying to point out is that you can't say just because you are a woman you wouldn't do certain things just so you don't fit into the perceived roles of a woman.I only used the cooking part as an example. 7 Likes |

thorpido: "They say" men dont or "Men dont" give them the chance? In all honesty do you think if buhari was a woman with all his experience and good qualities and al that APC would have made him their presidential candidate? Can you homestly say nigeria is in a state where Men will vote women as presidents ( evenwhen they are fully qualified)? If your answr is NO.. it raises the question ; why?? 13 Likes |

smileysmiles:it depends on what you mean by qualification. You need to know that in politics,it's not about degrees for instance. There was a female presidential candidate in the last elections and from the votes she got,it's obvious even the women didn't vote for her. 8 Likes 1 Share |

The political social and religious structures of the world have belittled the feminine gender into being seen as nothing but second to the male gender. And we need to add that women themselves are enablers of such attitudes. 5 Likes |

And in media interviews make sure fathers are asked how they balance family and work. In this age of ‘parenting as guilt,’ please spread the guilt equally. Make fathers feel as bad as mothers. Make fathers share in the glory of guilt. I said it. Men should be invested in the home front as women. Tehehehe 8 Likes |

Okay, one last thing about my mother. My mother and I do not agree on many things regarding gender. There are certain things my mother believes a person should do, for the simple reason that said person ‘is a woman.’ Such as nod occasionally and smile even when smiling is the last thing one wants to do. Such as strategically give in to certain arguments, especially when arguing with a non-female. Such as get married and have children. I can think of fairly good reasons for doing any of these. But ‘because you are a woman’ is not one of them. And so, Class of 2015, never ever accept ‘Because You Are A Woman’ as a reason for doing anything. Let me add that, men are finding it very, very hard to adapt to the changing idea of womanhood...a woman that does not use nuances/passive aggression/pretense (you know the whole characteristics we have of being the 'virtuous woman') to speak her mind, but would tell it as it is. The male gender is attracted to a weak, suppressed, subdued, naive and vulnerable woman. This trait of being attracted to that type of woman is more pronounced in some cultures more than the others. These are all learned and conditioned behaviors, and how your environment and upbringing shapes you to view women. Well all I have to say is that, those who fail to adapt to a changing environment would eventually go extinct. Lol, the confusion also here is that we have empowered the girls, nobody taught the men how to adapt to the empowered woman. 12 Likes |

Now being an empowered woman is not analogous to being unable to adapt to polite society. Ghetto, razz and crass women who want to hide under the cloak of feminism take note! Bad manners are just bad manners as a result of your bad upbringing. 8 Likes |

The reason why Chimamanda is so important to me is because of what she represents in today's society. She is the first outspoken feminist ever in Nigeria. She has brought awareness home and to the younger generation. Many people who can relate to her on a cultural level, will seize to perceive feminism as a white thing but as a fight all women share around the world. Most importantly, her decision to not use the redundant "Mrs" title and to keep her maiden name is so powerful to me. We need to have important models who look just like your average Nigerian girl that young girls in Nigeria can point to and say, "Look at Chimamanda, she was able to do it." It's harder to follow through or stand your ground with uncommon decisions like this, when you don't know anyone who has done it successfully before you. Lupita's dream as a Hollywood actress was made possible because in her earlier years, she saw women who look like her act in Hollywood. It is important that we have women who are African, speak up for women's movement. It sends the message that it is okay to be feminist and African. 20 Likes |

thorpido: Yes I can say I should not cook because I am a woman. unless it is naturally in you like child birth and even that you can choose not to give birth. Any woman has the right to not want to be part of the societal structures put in place. We need to break this gender norms as cooking or cleaning is not gender specific anyone can do it. Same way, you have the right to not pay for a woman's meal just because you are a man or a man trying to impress, you do it because you are generally that kind of human and would do it regardless of who it is. I have a right to choose not to be allocated to something just because I am a woman. 2 Likes |
