If you are sure is N7100 try installing a higher version. If it still did not work look for the bin of your model and flash it together with the original firmware

Simply means, your device is not rooted. The kitkat your device is running, is the version of Android it has, and no significance to its root access.

Lollipop actually manages batteries better. Switch off the bluetooth, wifi, nfc etc etc, when not used and enable power saving option. Hopefully, you would get longer usage from the battery.
