I will be having my passing out
parade in a few weeks. Looking
back into the service year, it looks
just like yesterday when i got my
posting letter to go serve my
Motherland

I was with my Ex- girlfriend on that
fateful day, when a friend called
me and told me i had been posted
to Anambra State, i leaped with Joy,
because it had always been my
dream to serve in the East. I guess
you all should know my reason for
that.

The following week, i was at the
Umunya Orientation Camp, Uyi
Local Government, Anambra State.
Just some few kilometers from the
Commercial town of Onitsha. I
remembered being told to safe
guard my luggage while we were
approaching Onitsha as the boys
over there don't smile.

As if the other passengers had
envisaged the incident, while we
were at the park, another bus
coming from Lagos arrived and as
the passengers were alighting from
the bus, an innocent little boy just
approached this dude and asked if
he could assist with his bad, the
guy consented and the boy was
trailing behind him.

All of a sudden, the boy
disappeared into crowd and the guy
just stood there with his mouth
opened wide. A bigger guy moved
closer to him and whispered into
his ears.
The bus to take us down to the
Camp arrived and we all boarded, it
was in the bus i noticed the guy
that had his bag frisked away right
before his eyes beside me and he
didn't seem to have recovered from
the shock.

He just kept staring into space and i
wondered if an Airplane was in the
bus. I asked him what the bigger
guy told him and he replied '' What
did you wants to know?'' I
apologized and managed to give a
little smile discreetly, the guy just
murdered the Queen's English.
On our way to the camp, the driver
got off a phone call and just
stopped the bus abruptly and said
to us '' Armu Robbas dey front,
everybody come do wn.'' I said ''
Wetin you say, Army Urban or
what?'' but at that moment, I
happened to be the only one left in
the bus, I wondered how all other
guys got down from the bus.

I followed suit and we all ran into a
nearby bush. A guy among us said
he needed to go back to retrieve his
Certificates and other valuables, no
one even answered him, it was
later we got to know he is a 1st
class graduate in his school and
probably felt the certificates are
more important than life. He went
and retrieved his documents
anyways.

After some few minutes, we all got
back to the road only to discover
the driver and the bus gone. It was
like magic. The driver was the
''Armu Robba'' and we had all
been '' robbad'' . I just stood there
and i guessed it was my turn to
open wide my mouth.

The 1st class student was staring at
us all and am so sure he would be
trying to visualize the grade we all
left school with as he happened to
have taken the best decision of his
life.

Fortunately for me, my phone was
with me and my wallet. We all
decided to start trekking and picking
on vehicles that were passing by.
Thinking if this should be
happening on my 1st day of Youth
Service, how would the rest of the
year be for me?

I eventually got to the camp around
evening time and I just went for
registration and off to bed. Couldn't
even call home to narrate my
ordeal to them.
The guy that was robbed at Onitsha,
Femi, coincidentally, happened to
be my bunk mate and when we
were about to sleep he stood up
and whispered to my ear ''
Welcome to Onitsha'' I asked what
that meant and he said that was
exactly what the big guy said to him
at Onitsha.
