@ejisky,
I'm not going to get into any arguments with you but I'm going stand by what I posted.

The only reason I'm not going to mention the person is cos I don't have permission to bring it to a public forum.

That you had a great experience with him does not mean everyone else did, you said you had your baby at home, this person didn't have that priviledge.

The question is, Is Dr Akere a board certified OB -GYN?? Does he have surgical skills to go on his OWN when its comes to C-sections, myomectomy, hysterectomy et al?

My great aunt delivered babies till the end of her days in my family compound back home; doesn't make her a LICENSED midwife. She also knew better than to keep a not so straightforward case without pulling out fast and sending them to the hospital, so that point is null and void...

You may not have a problem with leaving ob gyns in Nigeria to go to a family medicine practictioner in the US, I and I'm sure a lot of people do...

Had my two babies with Dr. Akere and had very good experiences... Issues arise from time to time and that does not make the doctor unqualified or bad....Moreover i find it very difficult to believe that he abandoned his patient. He actually rushed to my sisters house to deliver my second baby because i didn't know i was in labour and the baby came unexpectedly....

He is affiliated to 3 hospitals. i used St. Francis on both occasions.

Normal Delivery
Doctors Charge - $2,500
Hospital Charges - $2,750
Anesthesia - $550
Pediatrician - $880
Laboratory charges- $400
Admin Charges- $500

CS
Doctors Charge - $3,000
Hospital Charges - $3,500
Anesthesia - $800
Pediatrician - $750
Laboratory charges- $450
Admin Charges- $500

@ obeezydabs What is the cook county cost looking like? I hear it can be very high....

I smell a marketer. What is admin charges?

Dr Akere (google search) is not an obgyn, he is a GP.his board certification and licence is in family medicine.

I'm alarmed cos how that works out in the US with all the regulation and policy is a matter for another day.?

He has a practice called JIL medical something &according to his site has admitting priviledges @ St bernard & some other places. He may be good at delivering babies....

But ,I also know of someone who had a very unpleasant experience with him, got abandoned mid way cos of complications and had to go to the ER and is still counting the massive cost.

I didn't want to mention it but it will be unfair to keep quiet when others do share.

I'm not casting any aspersion on his practise or his person, just saying it as it is.

Sorry oo, @ejisky

Did he deliver your baby in the house himself? This is serious.
I was going to help you defend the Doc's performing deliveries and CSection as an Family doctor, thinking he had a faculty of Ob/gyns who does the deliveries under his practice. Now you said he delivered your baby himself.

But is he licensed to carry out such procedures, especially CSections? I just remembered that church member had a fibroid removed in St. Francis Hosp in Chicago, she nearly bled to death. I hope it wasn't this same doc o!

I had a pleasant experience at North West Houston Medical Center. I used Dr Xydas and his team(you'll likely meet different Drs on your appointment days, depending on who is on call. I was attended to by a total of 4 Drs).

I like the fact that they are so straight forward in their dealings. I got my zero balance as soon as I made full payment (before the baby was even born).

From the hospital I got some freebies : diapers, wipes, baby shirts, belly binder, baby formula and breast pump. This I think also depends on the nurses on call.

I'm expecting the final hospital balance by next week. Hopefully there won't be any extra charges.

For accommodation I'm staying with family but I noticed an Intown Suites a few minutes from the hospital.

I hope this helps. Thanks

Do they have private recovery rooms for every mum that just gave birth or U have to share with others? Sorry for my plenty questions. I just need to be cleared cos not so many people have used them and am just hearing we have to meet different doctors rather than dealing with just one doctor. Thanks

I am also not ready to get into any arguments with you! My comment is based on my experience.

Please do you have any fact that suggests he is not qualified? Thinking aloud how would he be able to practice in US for close to 20 years if he is not certified?

Like i stated before I had two babies with him and I had a very fantastic experiences. Mind you it was my 2nd baby that I had at home my first was in the hospital.

Anyways its unfortunate that your friend had a nasty experience.

I am not canvassing for patients for him there are so many hospitals and doctors in Chicago so pips please try other options.

@ ozzy2 I just sent you a PM now.

@ michelle1989 they have private rooms for each patient. With your own bathroom attached. They also give a menu for each meal so u can choose from it. There's night snack available as well grin, if u feel hungry after d 5pm dinner time. There is also a campish bed for your companion(if you have one) and everything you'll need while @ the hospital is provided.

The nurses had a station right outside my room so I always had fast response to my plenty calls for help.

Please if you get relief from using hot water bottles I advice you take it along from home. It works better than the packed one dey give @ the hospital. I'm mighty glad I had mine.

My dear, I googled him, maybe you should, he is not an ob/gyn. He is a family doctor, thus not licensed to carry out childbirth and surgeries related to childbirth. You took a risk, if it got out of hand... hummnn!

Also I hope you got a refund for 'hosp' fees since you had your baby at home.

No issues dear, I'm with you on this but
