femi9naija:no yeye pls. Our boys were only nervous. No one will ever think we will loose that match wit d level of players we paraded. You can see their potential as de came back from an early goal to lead 2-1 before those errors. U-17 or u-20 whichever one it is, this guys have grown up, maturing n exposed. Pls lets look beyond d 1st match n by d way d brazilians aint that good compared to our local league teams this same set of boys strolled past at d Super 6. I think it wasn't just our day(d big name BRAZIL played it own part) ...Hopefully, if dis guys can calm themselves n play the game just like other matches de've been winning before d tournament. I bet it wit u all jaws 'll be left hanging as dis boys dazzle d world. 1 Like |

About the match. On waking up by 2 to see d lineup, i was disappointed kinda. Manu wanted a massacre of the Brazilian team by selecting that setup. But he made a mistake though. He doesn't know how the Brazilians play so it was a risk too much. I was expecting him to make a change by half time to correct his tactics. **My tactical deductions from the match** The Brazilian coach was brilliant. He knew about the strength of the team lies in its midfield and speedy forwards, so he deployed a very high defensive line. Their defensive line was as high as 3/4 of their own side of the pitch. To my surprise, our team was trying to play in through balls which were either cut out or our players were caught offside. We had like 7 offsides. Reason we played that way was cause there was no carrier in the midfield. Someone to carry the ball from the midfield to link the strikers. Manu should v sacrificed playing both Success and Awoniyi together to bring on someone like Sokari. The 2 midfielders too were not doing enough to assist the defenders. Not their fault though, they were drawn out of position by the brilliant Brazilians. The goalkeeper, apart from his mistakes was poor in his distributions safe for the long throw that prompted the counter attack for our second goal. He'll bounce back though. I still believe in this team but i still see them suffering against organised teams unless Manu learns to adopt a second option to his tactics. TO SAFARIGIRL, GET WELL SOON DEAR. 1 Like |

Ukraine hit Myanmar for six A Valerii Luchkevych and Viktor Kovalenko-inspired Ukraine stormed to a 6-0 win over Myanmar, scoring all of their goals in the second-half to put one foot in the FIFA U-20 World Cup last 16. After a drab first 45 minutes the Europeans found their rhythm as Luchkevych became the catalyst for an avalanche of goals, with Kovalenko leaving the field with a brace and two assists to his name. It was rare that the game flowed in the opening stages, though Ukraine were certainly in command of the early passages of play. But their first sight of goal would largely characterise the half. Artem Bieseidin was slid through inside five minutes, but he dallied and his lack of composure allowed keeper Myo Min Latt to smother. Myanmar grew into the game, but an absence of cutting edge was regularly evident as Ukraine spurned a hatful of chances. There was one moment to get the Myanmar fans off their seat, who have been turning out in their droves for the Asian underdogs, as a mazy run from halfway by Aung Thu – skipping past three men in blue – deserved more than the corner his deflected shot earned. That will have felt a long time ago 12 minutes into the second half, largely thanks to the introduction of Luchkevych. He only played a small part in the opener, where Yevhan Chumak's cross picked out Roman Yaremchuk to head home, but he was instrumental from there on. Well found by Viktor Kovalenko – who was domineering in the centre of middle – in acres of space on the right flank, he delightfully chipped the keeper from the edge of the box. Another fine run saw him create the second, as Min Latt saved his shot only for Kovalenko to slot in the rebound, completing a nightmare six minutes for the Asian debutants. Another Kovalenko pass picked out full-back Eduard Sobol to make it four, before Luchkeyvich was at it again as his neat turn in the box allowed him to set-up Bieseidin for an easy finish. The Dnipro midfielder, absent from the first game because of his involvement in UEFA Europa League final, should have had a second, but Thiha Htet Aung's handball on the line saw the defender sent off. Pavlo Polehenko missed the resultant spot-kick, but great work by Biesieden down the right allowed Kovalenko to double his tally for the afternoon with a simple finish. |
