The 3-4-5 residential blocks as seen in Onitsha and Enugu remains the best and most majestic low and middle class housing in Nigeria today if you are a traveller that have seen other parts of Nigeria. The comparison is like night and day.

N4 billion naira is too much for just renovations of already existing 4-5 storey structure. Infact, N4 billion will build two of that structure again.

However, if they want to transform and furnish the existing hotel into a true 5 star, it may require up to that amount to do it well.

Abagworo in as much i always like to respect your views, i totally disagree with you here. Every nation has their uniqueness and every city of the world can't look like New York, Chicago, Hongkong and Tokyo. Rome, Madrid, Lisbon, London, Berlin and Bonn are not in that form but in their unique forms. Even your said Igbotic building was copied from Germany by our Igbo travellers and it emanated in early 1990s which replaced our initial 1 storey public buildings.

Those your wished buildings will come soon but will take some times. Today, nigerian cities like Marina, Abuja, and Ph where we see highrise buildings use them mainly for office purposes.

We will develop to this but it will take time. For now, our cites remain the best in Nigeria in terms of housing due to these Igbotic buildings.

ADDRESS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, RT. HON. IFEANYI UGWUANYI ON THE OCCASION OF HIS INAUGURATION AS THE GOVERNOR OF ENUGU STATE, AT THE OKPARA SQUARE ON MAY 29, 2015.

Ndi Enugu, the appointed day has finally come. It is the Lord’s doing and it is still marvelous in our eyes. To Him, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob and the Awesome God of David, be all the glory and honour in Jesus name. Amen.
Exactly eight years ago and on this ground, an enigma, a man of uncommon zeal for development, and indeed the true leader met for our souls was inaugurated as the third executive Governor of Enugu State. That man is no other person than His Excellency, Governor Sullivan Iheanacho Chime, CON. Looking back at his developmental strides, there is no doubt that he was divinely anointed and equipped with the intellectual capacity, political sagacity, and vision to take Enugu State to its rightful place in the comity of federating states. With a well thought-out blue print for consolidation and rapid growth, our amiable leader was rated as one of the best performing Governors for the eight years that he held sway.
Ndi Enugu, today, it has pleased God and you, men and women of goodwill that I step into the big shoes of my predecessors as the next Governor of Enugu State in a seamless continuity and consolidation of all the good works he and others before him has done in the State. It has pleased God that I take up the gauntlet of the struggle for the emancipation of the Wawa man from where our heroes past stopped. It can only be God, for it is He who raises the poor from the ash heap and makes him to inherit a throne of honour. He has anointed me for a mission – to bring good news, message of continued hope, peace and development to our people; to bind up the broken hearted; to proclaim liberty to every Wawa man caught in the prison of poverty and under-development. And these, I owe you and my God to fulfill.
Ndi Enugu, in line with my campaign promises, I recommit myself to continuing with the legacies of the Sullivan Chime’s administration and his roadmap for taking Enugu State to the next level. I recommit myself to employment generation, enhanced social services and good governance, rural development and indeed, security and justice. We will deploy government services to create fair and equal opportunity for every willing citizen to make a living and create wealth, educate our children, and enjoy life in a peaceful and secure environment. We will drive with full force investment promotion, agricultural sector renewal, provision of critical infrastructures, human capital development and skills acquisition.
We are aware that you are aware, and saddled with the same awareness, that unemployment is a major issue in our Country today. In order to alleviate the sufferings of our people in this regard, we deliberately designed government policies embedded in our road map to generate employment and provide the platform to partner with the private sector.
In the area of agriculture, we shall consolidate the efforts of the past administration in the San Carlos Farm project, the Adarice and other such farm settlements where our people will be gainfully employed.
We undertake to continue with the on-going educational reforms which have lifted our public schools to new levels of excellence. The introduction of e-learning and exchange programmes for our tertiary institutions in line with international best practices will be our priority.
The need to compliment the already established state-of-the-art medical diagnostic centre – the first of its kind in our geo-political zone- with our vision to create hospital chains to make Enugu the preferred destination for receiving high quality and affordable medicare in the Country will be a matter of first choice.
Your Excellences, Distinguished ladies and gentlemen,
Enugu State under us will pay a special attention to rural development because the bulk of our people live in the rural areas. We will create more urban areas to boost economic growth. In line with this, we must equip and modernize Nsukka – a University town founded over half a century ago – to compete with other University towns in attracting technology and knowledge based businesses and other industrial support ventures, bearing in mind that Nsukka is the second largest town in Enugu State.
In the same vein, the Ninth Mile Corner is a long overlooked economic hub that we need to harness to enjoy the full benefits of our newly acquired status as a Free Trade Zone. We will give attention to these places to speed up urban development, create fresh economic opportunities and reduce pressure on the Enugu metropolis.
Likewise we will boost the Enugu city by opening up the Independence Layout Phase Two, Abakpa Nike, Emene and other satellite towns to compliment the proposed Industrial Park. We will partner with the private sector, not only in housing development but also in agricultural development and industrialisation. We want people who are ready to enter into strategic partnerships with us to develop Enugu State. We will provide the necessary legal and policy frameworks to make investment thrive.
It is on this note that I wish to call on our people in the diaspora and the business community to key more freely into the new phase of development in Enugu. I enjoy the diaspora’s overwhelming support and goodwill for which I will remain grateful. Now, it is time for them to consummate this support by investing more at home and using their wide network of contacts to boost socio-economic development in the State. Although it is said among our people that “Ebe onye bi ka o na awachi”, it is also a fact that “Aku ruo uno, amara onye kpara ya”.
Ndi Enugu,
Let me state categorically that while we are gearing to achieve so much, we must bear in mind that the resource flow has grown so lean across the Country due to the nose-dive of oil prices in the International market. As His Excellency, the outgoing Governor pointed out during the thanksgiving service last Sunday, Enugu’s purse is growing leaner as federal allocations dwindle to an all-time low. A political associate recently told me that this is not the best of times to be the Governor of Enugu State. But I replied that this is indeed the best time to lead Enugu State. If former President Franklin Roosevelt could lead America out of the Great Depression; and if President Barak Obama could lead the Americans out of the economic melt-down, I believe that we too can turn the present economic challenges into huge blessings. Since it is knowledge driven economies and not oil driven economies that rule the world, I believe that this is another great opportunity for Enugu State, and indeed Nigeria to look inwards and harness those potentials which free oil money has blinded us all the while from exploiting. It is an opportunity to live to our full potentials and discard the feeding bottle federalism syndrome. Importantly, I believe in the miracle of 5 loaves and 2 fish. I believe that God will give us the wisdom and courage to successfully navigate the state through the current economic crunch.
Yet while I have no doubt that we will get to the promised land; while expectations are high, and rightly so, it is also important to state that the times we are in require some patience. With patience, faith and your full involvement in governance, we will surely get there.
However, I also believe that we must match our faith with the right decisions and good work. I will therefore be calling on Ndi Enugu to tighten their belts. But the difference between our model of belt-tightening and the one you used to know, is that the belt-tightening under this administration will start with government functionaries and business. We will lead by example. We will lead a lean government to free up resources and channel them to the real development issues.
In addition, every revenue-generating agency of government should be ready to generate and remit revenues to fund government’s development efforts. Likewise, individuals and corporate entities should henceforth start paying tax as defaulters will not be counted as friends of Enugu State. But one thing I must assure you is that every kobo you put into the coffers of government will be utilised transparently and in a way that adds value to your lives.
We will continue with our foreign investment drive. We were in China recently. We had fruitful discussions with some businessmen who want to invest in our state. The result of those meetings will be felt by the good people of Enugu State when investors storm Enugu State soon. We will continue to provide favourable policies, legal frameworks, and business friendly environments to encourage others to follow suit.
Before I take my seat, please permit me to appreciate the support and contributions of the Deputy President of the Senate, His Excellency, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, CFR; the former Senate President, His Excellency, Senator Ken Nnamani, GCON; the former Governor of old Anambra State, His Excellency, Senator Jim Nwobodo; His Excellency, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo; His Excellency, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani; His Excellency, Admiral Allison Madueke Rtd.; His Excellency, Anthony Ogugua; and all our other leaders too numerous to mention.
We salute our Party men and women especially its leadership at the National, Zonal, State, Local Government and Ward levels. We also recognize the untiring efforts of the various Support Groups.
Most importantly, we must appreciate the electorate who defied rain and sunshine to ensure that their votes counted. They are the true heroes of our democracy and will be surely rewarded with good governance.
We appreciate those who contested against us both in the party primaries and in the general election. We also recognize the support of all the 22 political parties that endorsed us. We commend their support and goodwill, and whole-heartedly invite them to join us as we take Enugu State to the next level.
Ndi Enugu!
Again, let the word go forth from here to the heights of the undulating hills of Udi; take the word to the elevations of Nsukka; let the tiding go forth to the farmlands of Nkanu land and indeed to every nook and cranny of Wawa land, that seamless Continuity and Consolidation have come!

Innoson and Dnagote are industrialists but the real beneficiaries of their economic production are their employees ie technicians,managers,suppliers,staff and the endless chain of direct and indirect stakeholders who play key parts in their production process. Such trickle and multiplier effect as described are the bases and catalyst for the vibrant economies we adore the world over.The place of governement policies cannot be over-emphasised of course and that is where i expect the state government to step up. Tax holidays,industrial estates and assisting the foreign investments in securing operational licenses,devoid of the needless bottlenecks which hinder business growth in Nigeria should also form the bedrock of our businness policies.I also expect government at all levels to make laws that restrict capital flight and ensure profits are re-invested into the country.

There is a glimmer of hope for the restoration of the old glory of Presidential Hotel in Enugu, this is just as the out-going governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime, has approved N4 billion concessioning agreement with E-Hospitality Services Limited (EHSL) to develop the hotel into a world class hotel in the coal city.
The deal with EHSL, according to the state government is to facilitate measures required in the redevelopment of the hotel. The firm was also offered the opportunity to manage the hotel under an international hotel brand name.
The hotel which was once the pride of eastern Nigeria, Hallmark gathered was one of the first iconic buildings built in post-independence as part of the Eastern government’s industrialization plan created under the late Dr. Mike Okpara.  With a unique offering of recreational and lifestyle elements, the hotel later metamorphosis into a choice destination for locals and foreign visitors.
It sits on prime land within the Independence Layout Enugu and is approximately 15 minutes by car from the Enugu International airport.
According to Mr. Ikechi Uko, Chairman Jedidah Promotion, at the time the hotel was opened to the public, it used to be the most expensive hotel in the entire South-east. He added that the hotel offered 100 rooms on 4 floors with recreational facilities such as swimming pools, tennis courts and a night club considered best in class.
He further noted that most people who spent their growing-up days in Enugu and other eastern states had fond memories of Sunday lunch in the Hotel’s restaurant as well as attending functions in the grand ball room.
He revealed that these memories however quickly fade once the reality of the hotel’s current state of disrepair was revealed. Military administration that had ruled that state, contributed to the rots and disrepair.  This culminated in a complete rundown of the Hotel and subsequent closure of the once iconic facility.
In the concession, EHSL is expected to undertake the project through a special purpose company – Primeview Hotels Limited. It was also revealed that there are plans to engage renown hotel management company to operate the hotel post renovation.
According to the company, following extensive research it conducted in the South-eastern part of the country, it discovered that the region lacked international standard hospitality services that are capable of attracting international tourists.
The company said, ”Given the strong demand for quality hotel, leisure and conferencing facilities in the region EHSL aims to breach this supply gap by providing what would be undoubtedly the premier business and leisure facility in the South-East zone when completed.
It also expects that with the growing Foreign Direct Investment-FDI, flowing into the zone and the commencement of direct international flights into Enugu airport and significant foreign traveler traffic, the hotel after fully renovated will  become the destination of choice for tourists.
Enugu is strategically located, being approximately an hour’s drive from the state capitals of Anambra, Abia, Imo and Ebonyi and about ninety minutes from Port Harcourt. The Hotel when completed will play a key role in facilitating business and socio-economic activities across the South-East and South-South zones.
Meanwhile, Primeview Hotels Limited has since taken possession of the facility and concluded preliminary surveys and assessments including a structural integrity test carried out by Sanni Ojo and Partners, a leading firm of structural engineers. The results of the tests have been positive.
EHSL however has assembled a team of world class design and engineering consultants and produced a redevelopment concept.
The company further revealed that the proposed redevelopment concept involves reconfiguringand modernising the existing hotel facilities such as Restaurants, Conferencing facility, Outdoor swimming pool, 4 tennis courts and increasing the stock of rooms from 100 to 150 rooms.
It said, ”In addition a Family leisure center will be incorporated and the number of restaurants and other elements increased in line with the requirements of the preferred hotel manager. It is expected that the main contract for the redevelopment will be awarded in Q4 2015 and the Hotel ready to be opened by Q2 2017.’’

Nobody doubts the importance of industrialisation. But Till the investors come in, I still believe investing in agriculture is the fastest way to getting to a larger percentage of the populace.

^^^There was talk last year or year before of the Chinese investing in an industrial/technology layout! Maybe this is what he's referring to, and would likely tie in with the newly approved Free-Trade-Zone (FTZ) status GEJ granted Enugu just before he left office!
