Thank you my sister. Please tell them i hope others will come up and state their experiences with Dr. Akere. I stated my experience as it was o nothing personal. provided all the information I had but alas someone even called me a marketer. I now understand why many people do not comment. For someone go to the extent of doubting his license! lol.. the amazing part is she is not even the person he maltreated. Just propagating falsehood on hear say.... I can bet that there is more to that story. Anyways i rest my case. bbaby84: |

modath: @Modath, I really think you need to let this issue rest. You keep going on and on about all the wrong things this doctor did, and all these without providing any details. If anything, you are not talking from experience but rather relying on hearsay. It would have been sufficient to ask people to be cautious or do their due diligence before engaging his services and end it there, since any reasonable person will seek info and conduct their research before engaging the services of any professional, be it a doctor, lawyer etc. The fact that you are dragging his name in the mud and want to keep going on and on honestly makes it look like you have your own agenda. It's sufficient to caution people and move on instead of going on an all out war to show how bad he is. 9 Likes |

Hello people, please does anyone in Lagos have a stroller (that can fitted to a Graco car seat) they're no longer using and won't mind selling (or dashing ). I have to travel with my daughter and she's now too heavy for the baby carrier we normally travel with. Please PM me if you have and are willing to part with it. |

I had actually not wanted to get involved in this Dr. Akere discussion, because I have been labelled a bad name here. But if I must, I will. I put in at least 1 month into looking for a good Chicago package, of which I analysed my result here. If anyone noticed, I intentionally left out Dr. Akere because I didn't want to demarket him here. He is quite popular among Nigerians in chicago, infact the first port of call but upon research, I struck him off my list. Here are my reasons: 1. As they have outrightly put out here, he is not a certified ob/gyn, and as a CS candidate with a history, I don't think I wanted a regular family practitioner to handle my case. 2. I got upset about a few stories I heard from some women on ground here. He collects his payment upfront before 36 weeks and if there are complications beyond his control, he refers the patients to the general hospital where he has no connections to and that's where the relationship ends. Who handles the bills from that end, I do not know. I heard this from two families, they didn't get refunds and when asked about it, he became incommunicado (red flag, greed) 3. Another woman said that if you visit his clinic, he will send out his secretary to you with the bill, if you don't agree and want to negotiate, he doesn't give room for that. It's either $7500 or nothing. (this one put me off totally, where is the compassion required from a doctor?) 4. If he is not available, who handles his patients? I didn't get any response to that. So I skipped 5. I found a doctor who uses his same hospital that charges even less than he does so I didn't dig further because I lost interest totally. 6. All the people that referred me to him kept putting pressure on me to go to him, calling me endlessly asking me to mention their names when I get there. I got the vibes there should be an incentive going to them. Why should I mention your names? 7. I did not come across any CS patient he has performed on. I think he refers the patients to the ob/gyn I met in that his hosp who charges cheaper and pockets the change. These are just my PERSONAL assumptions based on my research. Anyone that wants to use him can go ahead, but personally, it was a No, No. In my mind eye, I decided he was having a ball and cashing out from Nigerian women. I want personalised care, which I am totally enjoying right now where I signed up, which is faaaaarrrrr cheaper that what Dr. Akere is charging and I have a team of doctors at my beck and call when my consultant is not available. Ok, back to lurking/silent mode. 20 Likes |

@whites, You are on point about doing due diligence but dragging his name through the MUD is what I don't agree with, If I wanted to drag his name through the mud as you are saying, I'd have gone into details. I didn't have any plans of getting into any back and forth with @ejimsky & if you observed well, l let her have the last word as it became an unnecessary distraction, I made my choice after doing due diligence and I trust most people would too. I'm not speaking from hearsay, this "event" happened to someone close but the person is a private person who would not appreciate being aired on a public forum.. Thank you... *Last word* |

Whites:. Im thinking modath is pained cos it's someone close to her and even more pained she can't go into details on a public forum. But you are right, we should all do our due diligence and follow our instincts especially when you are parting with plenty money. |

Based on my experience, most of these things you stated did not happen to me... but anyways it is what it is. Hopefully those that have actually used him will come up and speak about their experiences. Please can you be kind enough to state your doctors details and cost so that people who are not comfortable with Dr Akere can try him/her . A friend who is due in September is looking for a farrrr cheaper option so the info will be very useful to her. Thanks nefertitiram: 3 Likes |

modath: Perhaps we have different definitions and understanding of what dragging someone's name through the mud is, but you may want to go back and re- read whatever it is that you wrote about this man. It would actually have made more sense if you supported your allegations with facts instead of putting forth allegations without really offering people anything to judge him by. Look at what Nerf has written, facts, illustrating why she decided against him, and which makes a lot of sense. I am not saying he doesn't have his shortcomings, since I do not even know him. It just seemed as though your intentions were not that pure, and especially at the point where the exchange between you and the poster that alleged to have had a good experience with him begun getting personal. It would have sufficed to just caution people and ask them to do their research. The event might have happened to someone close to you, but it is still hearsay as you were not there to witness it but are relying on what this person told you. Anyhow, at this point that's neither here nor there. The most important point is that everyone must take their time and do their own research before they settle on a doctor. If you are not sure, seek opinions of those that have engaged the doctor's service and make an informed decision based on your findings. 3 Likes |

@whites, I made a solemn promise not to go back to that issue & I won't break it.. Only that.. It isn't fair to say "not making sense" "allegations" "impure intentions" after I had reiterated more than 4-5 times that giving details wouldn't go down well with the individual in question... The person in question was even advised by people around to suck it up & move on cos the embassy had already warned that "childbirth in th US is EXPENSIVE & adequate FINANACIAL arrangement should be made" so making any noise will be counter productive. I don't regret letting my "emotions" get the better of my intial "reservation" to speak up & give a heads up to higher risk patients. to do their due diligence. Maybe my being a post two CS mum with a slight high risk may be the reason why I kept responding despite vowing not to do so. @whites, I swear I had 3 different people PM me to "convince" (this thread I believe has the highest of guests/lurkers/profiteers of the whole of NL) me to go with him & I was initially sold before things unravelled & got myself an HOSPITAL package. Asides from the above, I'm in the dark about something & would like someone who is steeped in the American way of doing things to enlighten me ; From people's experiences and my own personal findings. " When a delivery is packaged, there is no BREAKDOWN of service fees, it is ONE OFF and HOSPITAL receives & not the DR/LAB TECH/PAED"...?? In every other case all SERVICES are paid individually by the PATIENT?? Am I correct ?? 5 Likes |

@modath, thumbs up! Sometimes our silence could damage things. The fact that a particular doctor is rushed to doesn't necessarily mean he's very detailed and good. Don't follow the crowd, research very well, ask questions and don't be shy about it. After all, it's your life and that of your baby (ies) that matter, also, you are paying for the services. 6 Likes |
