Green questions Eagles' preparation

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Executive Committee member, Barrister Christopher Green, reckons the preparations of the Flying Eagles for the 2015 Fifa U20 World Cup could have been better.

The Nigeria U20 team spent the final weeks of their preparation in Germany where they played three tune-up games but Green says the choice was not ideal.

“The first mistake we made (in our preparations for the tournament) was going to Germany. The climate in Germany and New Zealand are anything but similar.

“And the Brazilians we played against (on Monday) in our first match have been in New Zealand from the 16th of May,” Green told Nigeria Info FM on Monday.

The NFF chief then took the time to assess the team’s performance against Brazil in their opening game in group E.

Goals from Success Isaac and Musa Yahaya proved to be merely academic as the Flying Eagles lost 2-4 to the South Americans at the Stadium Taranaki, New Plymouth.

“Our coach (Manu Garba) made the mistake of trying to go for an over kill against the Brazilians.

“He played four strikers in the game and that was basically suicide against a very strong Brazilian side.

“I don’t know if members of the NFF’s technical study group had any input in that game because the coach would have been advised against playing four strikers,” he said.

Nigeria will look to put their campaign back on track with a win over Korea DPR on June 4 in their second game in the competition.

I say we opt fr Simon Moses, Nacho, Yahaya combination up front. We will have a skillful brilliant attack. Maybe the best I the competition.

Success, Ifeanyi Matthew miss Flying Eagles training

The Flying Eagles have put behind them the disappointment from the loss to Brazil and Tuesday morning’s training at the Manukorihi Park was highly spirited.

However, striker Isaac Success, who on Monday became the first Nigerian player to score against the South Americans at this level of international football, and Ifeanyi Matthew stayed out of the training.

Success complained of tightness on his hamstring,
while Matthew is nursing a left foot injury he suffered in the Brazil clash.

Giwa FC goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo was outstanding as an outfield player for the second team as he dished out some long-range passes.

The team will have their final training for the Korea match on Wednesday morning.

Tuesday cheer for the squad came when they enjoyed a meal of pounded yam and vegetable soup provided by Auckland-based James Rotimi and his family.

Rotimi from the school of engineering AUT University drove down five hours with his wife, Funmi, and their three children to serve the Flying Eagles a delicious lunch.

“My wish is that we get this type of lunch all the way to the end of the tournament,” dreamed defender Izu Omego, who has struggled to adapt with the dishes served in both Germany and New Zealand.
success suffering from hamstring again? that devil is a liar. under 17 world cup hamstring nightmare ll not repeat itself here again shocked

I do not think we lost because of a tactical errors, even though we could question Coach Garba's tactics. We lost because of individual errors.

If Awoniyi buried the goal before the Brazilians scored, it would have been a different story.

The Brazilians gained two goals because of mistakes of the goal keeper. I think most criticism should not be directed towards coach Manu Garba and his crew.

That combo's never been tested so if the coaches opt for it, na another experimentation be that o bros!
I so don't want to think about some tactics going bad once more.

Playing Nacho as a wing forward have not been tested with this team. It is the logical option. Any combination with Nacho will be experimental unless we're leaving him out of the line up.

You have point Sir GoodJoe... And I agree with it. In the absence of certain individual errors, Nigeria wud hv beaten brazil by maybe 4-1 or 5-2. With that starting line up which a lot of pple hv criticized, Brazil wud still hv fallen. But it's ok... We're marching on!!! We will meet them again (I forsee a semifinal clash) and this time they're gonna beg to end that game early enough coz we're gonna 'RAPE' Brazil (yeah, I knw 'rape' is kinda harsh but take it frm me, The win will be akin to it).

unlike u im not a plastic fan, the coach made a mistake in his formation in the match against brazil resulting to the defeat, lets play that match again brazil will not do a double over us. u dont play 3 strikers in a match against a team like brazil leaving ur midfield and defence vulnerable, that exactly was what the coach did. he choked upfront with 3 strikers thereby negletting the middle and the defence felt the brunt of the attacks from the Brazilians. if u watch and understand football very well u will understand what im talking about. this is the African champs we re talking about here, i can beat my chest and tell u that we will not lose any match again en-route to the final. these boys have gone 45 match unbeaten prior to our last match. i can see u re not a fan of these boys but one of those football watchers that criticize and lose hope when a team falter. bro believe in ur team, the boys have been stung, they ll fight like wounded lions from now, give it to my boys, they are good, forget the lose to Brazil. the land is green. GREEN WHITE GREEN 4 LIFE.
oga I believe in the flying eagles but we have to take the game as they come and not underestimate anybody, south korea and hungary did not come as spectators of the tournament

NIgerian fans can be such i-d-i-o-t-s. A team loses for the first time in 2 years and they have become rubbish. How many of the s-t-u-p-i-d foreign clubs you support can go 44 matches unbeaten?

I shake my head for all these plastic fans.

I have unshakeable faith in this team.

Any other team that can win the eagles again in this tournament got to be really damn fortunate. .. But I look around and cant see any team stopping them except themselves..

I call it 'Conviction based on Knowledge of what I'm talking about'.
Now lemme ask u dis, God calls u, as a Christian, HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS IN 2 COR.5v21. Will it be overconfidence to call myself what God says I am? Or Modesty to say, 'God was exaggerating, I'm just a sinner trying to get it right'?
LOOK FRIEND, THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NO CRIME IN CALLING THESE BOYS WHAT THEY TRULY ARE.......

...CHAMPIONS, WINNERS, JUGGERNAUTS, AND INVINCIBLES...
They have proven these over time and over the past 2-3 yrs. THIS IS WHO THEY ARE... So what's the crime in CALLING THEM BY WHO THEY ARE? It will not distract them or put them under pressure... Instead it will remind them of their limitless potentials and inspire them to shake the very foundations of this tournament and beyond AND BRING DOWN FRUIT UNHEARD OF... So bro relax, besides ur moniker tells me u'll do worse 4 Man Utd... Hehehe. But, truly, THIS IS WHO THEY ARE...

Mustapha Apologizes to All Nigerians for Defeat

Nigerian U20 LeftBack, Abdulahi Mustapha has apologized for the 4-2 gallant loss at the hands of their Brazilian counterparts. The match which has been dubbed the most entertaining match yet at the U20 FIFA World Cup was full of intrigues and attacking movements.

It would be recalled that the Nigerian players had promised the Nation that they would defeat Brazil before the game but that was not to be as Brazil matched them skill for skill in the brilliant encounter.

Mustapha has thus come out to beg football-crazy Nigerians who suffered sleeplessness in the wee hours of Monday to watch their beloved team.

"I'm very sorry to all Nigerians for the 4-2 defeat against Brazil. #Allah is the reason# cheer up to the next game against Korea #itmustbegood#", he said.

While alot of fans back home blamed Mustapha for his shambolic displays in the opener, the coaches disagreed as during training they blamed Awoniyi and Success for the poor showing of Abdullahi as they told them that both attakers left Mustapha with no cover and mostly with two Brazilian men on him. They gave examples of how the attackers had covered him in training and how Yahaya was seen coming to the defense of Musa at the right back during the match.

It is still unclear which of the two forwards Coach Manu Garba will axe from the next game against Korea as he wants a different mentality that had made them not lose in 45 matches prior to the Monday game. But sources reveal that Success is carrying a hamstring injury and is unsure of playing in the next game.

It is good news that the players and coaches have thrown the disappointment of the Brazilian defeat behind them and are concentrating on the next game. They were cheerful in training and were seen cracking jokes, a vast departure from the atmosphere at the end of the Brazilian match.

They have thus made up their minds that the next two games are must-win matches and are confident of picking the maximum points at stake.

About the match.
On waking up by 2 to see d lineup, i was disappointed kinda. Manu wanted a massacre of the Brazilian team by selecting that setup. But he made a mistake though.
He doesn't know how the Brazilians play so it was a risk too much.
I was expecting him to make a change by half time to correct his tactics.
**My tactical deductions from the match**
The Brazilian coach was brilliant. He knew about the strength of the team lies in its midfield and speedy forwards, so he deployed a very high defensive line. Their defensive line was as high as 3/4 of their own side of the pitch. To my surprise, our team was trying to play in through balls which were either cut out or our players were caught offside. We had like 7 offsides. Reason we played that way was cause there was no carrier in the midfield. Someone to carry the ball from the midfield to link the strikers.
Manu should v sacrificed playing both Success and Awoniyi together to bring on someone like Sokari. The 2 midfielders too were not doing enough to assist the defenders. Not their fault though, they were drawn out of position by the brilliant Brazilians.
The goalkeeper, apart from his mistakes was poor in his distributions safe for the long throw that prompted the counter attack for our second goal. He'll bounce back though.
I still believe in this team but i still see them suffering against organised teams unless Manu learns to adopt a second option to his tactics.

TO SAFARIGIRL, GET WELL SOON DEAR.
spot on bro,the team was too attack minded,at halftime he should have brought on Idowu to shore up the midfield,we were blaming our defense but we failed to realised they received no help from the forwards and we only had on marker in Ifeanyi Ifeanyi in midfield. The full backs especially mustapha were left exposed because the guys playing infront of them were not tracking back.Hope Manu will play one striker and an attacking midfielder with either Moses or Bulbwa and Yahaya from the wings.
