of course.... no one tells me to man up more than my mom. when my siblings cheated me while growing up, all i was told was to man up, big boys don't cry.
it depends on the job.... if it's a task that requires less manual stuff, then you can choose a woman. if it's to dig a borehole, would you choose a woman?
women have had it harder? how? i cannot believe you are saying this. women have had it very easy. what i kept hearing growing up was its not easy to be a man. 1. Your mum didn't know any better, I bet your sisters were also told "don't talk to a man that way or you are a woman, don't do bla bla" 2. What are you talking about?if the woman can do the job efficiently, she's hired, like there aren't men who can't dig?duh! 3.So you were told to believe, because a man is so power hungry, he'd take the glory for doing nothing, you know, just having a penis around here, is reason enough to slap a woman, for the flimsiest reason. |

@bold the hilarity in that ehhh. ..
African especially Nigerian feminists are the least informed. majority of the them don't even know what it is about or the purpose and idea behind the movement. some are just following the crowd, others probably learnt of it two weeks ago and are carrying the matter on their head like hawkers, and some just think 'feminism' is a cool word. very few really understand the concept which is really about equality of the sexes, not seeing the menfolk as monsters or wanting to have superiority over them.
Yet the so called self-acclaimed feminists would want me to pay for the meal after a date, wouldn't pay tax, wouldn't even support in the payment of school fees for their kids. 80% of Nigerian women don't contribute a dime in payment of their children's school fees, house rent, purchase of foodstuffs. equality of the sexes indeed.
may god continue to punish whoever brought this blooper to this country. even all these small 17 year old girls would wanna be standing up to men and ranting what they don't know for all you pseudo and fake Nigerian feminists, first of all you do not possess a testicle, you can never be a man. you were made a pussssy for a reason secondly I've never seen any case of gender discrimination in Nigeria. If anything, women are even more favoured.. thirdly, go get a job and quit all this frivolous gobbledygook.. hasta la vista
@Bold: Which Nigeria? Especially for the married women Let's say you are right: If doing 20% of finance makes your wife inferior to you, Does doing 20% of the chores make you inferior to her? And bros, that your 80% is not working. 3 Likes |

Feminisim is to Nairaland what the Kardashians are to Social Media I think my Dad was a feminist o. In short I think looking back now I think my mother who ironically is the female was the anti feminist My dad used to get so pissed off at all 'just marry just marry' talk.He taught me how to play chess and would take me out with him to Country club when hanging with the boys.I remember watching football with him and mum would be vexing that I did not come and cook in the kitchen.'lets see if you will be watching football instead of feeding your children and husband' My dad would say 'you can always hire a cook cooking and chores are mundane things that can always be learnt at any time or paid for' Unlike most families we had to send emissaries to beg him to let me marry because he really wanted me to at least do my masters and get to a certain level in my career before marriage. The only thing he ever asked my hubby was to make sure that he never cut my academic or career dreams short as that was one of the things that he could never forgive as he had invested so much into his daughters for them not to fulfil their potential. Sorry for the epistle ojere.I just miss that man so much I guess growing up around that kind of man as well growing up around women (not too sure if now I see it as an actual good thing) who were happy with or without men (check out the stereotypes for women of Lagos Island origin ) makes my experiences a bit different from those who might have been felt subjugated because of their gender. I however feel that Nigeria's equality problems are multi faceted. Can a disabled person be said to have the same rights as an able bodied person? Is blatant age discrimination not practised is some Nigerian organisations? In a way sef I don't think extremely poor people are classed as humans that deserve dignity and respect in Nigeria (note I know there are poor people everywhere and being poor sucks anywhere but in Nigeria they are sub human) 6 Likes |

Lol, you've a point. It's just like a randomn male saying Okonjo-Iweala or Folorunsho Alakija is beneath him which isn't true. But in gender stereotype/chauvinism, Okonjo and Alakija would be discriminated hence gender inequality. |

Besides you believe in gender equality but do not believe in feminism? • Yes, I said I believe in equality of the sexes, but i strongly disagree that women are being discriminated against in Nigeria. you are given equal platforms, sent to school and can secure jobs as well. I also don't think Nigerian feminists know what they really want. I think they are pretenders that just want to feel westernized, because I still don't know what they are vying for. babygirlfl: OP I like the fact that you said for now because it was a joke too in England for a long time but isn't today. Fact is that Nigeria is decades and maybe up to a century behind but a drop of water they say makes a mighty ocean. Women have to do their little even if it means being called any name. Our hope is that we do the little we can now and leave the next generation of women a better world than we had.
My only hope is that what Nigerian feminist or pseudo-feminist as some call us are facing today is no different from what the western women faced long time ago but did it stop feminism from happening? No. One of the major setback that early feminist in the west experienced was huddles from fellow women. Women who were either scared to go against the norm or women who have the need to get approval from men. It does not surprise me. It was and is still expected. Even Queen Victoria of England in the 1800s did not like feminists and even said Feminists ought to get a good whipping. That still did not stop feminism from happening.
Op, Most feminist I know say it that it's the culture so I don't understand what you mean by men against women. The west too had very strict cultures that oppressed women at the time feminism was at it's infancy. If they could do it then, we can do it.
Yes there is an adage that says that when you are ready for a fight, you should be ready to get injured. For feminism to happen, some of us will get called names, some of us may not get married, some of us may get divorced etc. If people can go to war and get killed to get peace, being called names, not getting married and getting divorced is a little price to pay for feminism. It is also important to know that some of us will also live a very happy life. Remember also that some non-feminist women will still be single for life, be called names and get divorced. That's my girl! Well said! 6 Likes |

I also don't think Nigerian feminists know what they really want. I think they are pretenders that just want to feel westernized, because I still don't know what they are vying for. How can a free man be lamenting all day and begging for freedom?
• The "likes" and social media aspect was an analogy to prove to you that women(Nigerian) are shown preferential treatment and favoured and aren't discriminated against. Why should a woman get 100000 likes on Facebook just for saying "she's thirsty online" and why should a man get 10 likes for his picture that's been up for 2 months? . Isn't that gender discrimination against men? But are we crying. Yet we continue to like your photos cos unlike you we aren't nagging or cry babies. or you think its the Seraphim in the 7th heaven that likes the photo?
• Don't even include the house chore thing. its totally irrational and without a droplet of logic How can you compare mere house chores to venturing out daily to face the asperity and harshness of the Spartan world to source for bread?. even if its not a manual job, house chores isn't close to that. Don't include it at all
• You said the inequality and discrimination is a mental thing?... correct. That's what you should have said sincr. In as much as it isn't manifested physically in Nigeria here especially, its still ingrained in the cerebrums of every male in the spiral galaxy that we are superior to these people.(women) I accept and agree. but I'm sorry you can't change that and I don't think that mentality is changing anytime soon.
(I'm not a believer) but even the Bible said youknowwho took from Adam's ribs to create 'b1tch' The same bible said women should submit to their husbands.
• My point is: feminists should apply the animal farm theory which is: All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others
In this case we males are more equal, no matter how equal the society may seem or you want it to be. that utopian society feminists want is never gonna happen.
We are biological animals and its all about survival of the fittest. Why would you think you are equal with someone you are physically stronger than, faster than, emotionally fortified than, and most times more smarter than? If you really want equality then I should be able to slap a woman without being called names.
Lalai Ali should be ready and able to get into a ring with Floyd may weather or Vitali klitchko
Venus Williams must be ready to play with Rafael nadal
women and men should also play soccer together and compete. I.e Lionel Messi play with women and against women etc
That's when its gonna be equal, but why are we deceiving ourselves though.? no matter what , we(males) would still come out on top... .feminists/women would never own a phallus or be men. Cheers. you nailed it bro, these ladies dont know what they want yet. those that understand the evil and stagnancy behind feminism have forged on with their lives and will bcom great women.... 3 Likes 1 Share |
