Most fans reckon the hooded guy is Benjen Stark,Jon's 'uncle' who was missing since s01.
All in all,it was a nice episode.Crows and Wildlings alike can now see the danger the White Walkers pose to them.
Queen D should just stay put and rule in Meeren,she won't do well in Westeros

i also noticed Jon's sword kinda has a different effect on some of those undead...The wight? compared to the Walkers...The wights don't blow up, and am not sure they really die. Its only the walkers that the sword really seemed to have a killing effect on

The white walkers are not undead. They just look that way by our standards. They are intelligent beings that posses magical powers. Valyrian steel and dragon glass is their only known weakness.

Only fire can kill the wights, they are the ones that are undead. Even Jon's sword or dragon glass can't kill them.

The latest episode of Game of Thrones, The Gift, saw the passing of Maester Aemon.
Aemon was a very rare thing in Westeros for a couple of reasons: 1) he did not want the Iron Throne, 2) he died of natural causes. He was also, as the show had revealed, a Targaryen. With his death, that leaves Daenerys as the sole remaining member of the former royal family left in the world.

I really find it amazing that some GoT viewers don't know this yet.

So let’s say in the final confrontation between White Walkers and humans, every able-bodied man is armed with Valyrian steel and obsidian-tipped daggers and arrows. Do you think that evens the playing field when every fallen human can then join the side of the army of the undead? (Bran and his magical, tree-based training may have something to do with counteracting that.) As high as the odds against men are stacked here, we learned one final devastating thing in this episode. Those White Walkers seem to not only be impervious to fire, they actually put fire out with their icy presence. In the words of one Redditor, these guys are walking freezers. But, listen, if dragon steel (Valyrian steel) and dragon glass (obsidian) can penetrate these chilling monsters, then dragon fire should probably do the trick. It’s called “A Song of Ice and Fire” for a reason. Sam will figure it out eventually, I have faith in his book learning. So thank heaven we’ve finally got Daenerys Targaryen a fantastic advisor in the shape of Tyrion Lannister. Now let’s just see if they can get those pesky dragons under control.

Just wondering what all those people who said they were through with the show after the Sansa incident in episode 5 are coping. Surely the buzz generated from episode 8 will force them to reconsider their decision. Lol.
