Nice! I was thinking of opening a thread like this but this my small phone wouldn't let me.
The Udu drum is no longer local,percussionist from different parts of the world travel to Igboland to learn more about our Udu. Consequently, Western Musicians are gradually adding Udu to their music and instruments. Udu has been compared to the Indian Tabla but i can tell you that the tabla is a 'learner' when it comes to Igbo Udu. I have two Tabla music on my phone and it's nothing compared to Udu. Udu has also been compared to the Indian Ghatam,which is actually an Udu but it's still a learner(pardon my slang).
There is nothing wrong in using Western Piano and Guitar but i think it's time our musicians take a break and revive our traditional instruments. I recently discovered Igbos had thumb piano, harp,xylophones, Zither,wood block etc. As expected,most of these instruments have been neglected.

@bigfrancis thanks for the thread and to say this whenever I remember that am an IGBO BOY,am always happy becos we have rich culture and so dudes don't understand it,and where am pained is that our own brothers and sisters don't acknowledge it.i hope I can educate them.like I was in a function lately and I was putting on the custom red chieftaincy attire to ma surprise the people their started to look at me as if I fell down from another planet and not to include that most of them don't know what OFOR IS and this place is igbo land.NWANNE CAN U IMAGINE?

It's called Uri or Uli. It's an ancient igbo body art or temporary tatoo. It's popularly seen in epic igbo movies but black pencils are used in place of the original Uri paint.

Glad to say that the uli plant is still in my compound. No one uses it though.

I don't think the Ubo is still in use. The last people that played it was Area scatter and Parley Brown from Ohaji Egbema. We really need to revive these instruments. That is why i respect Indians for protecting their culture and civilization. The White men entered Igboland and igbos neglected their culture. Uri,a traditional igbo body cosmetics should come back too.

You can also find uli in Aguata side of Amambra.

He is right, Udu is used in every part of Igbo land.

To be a good writer, try and do your research very well before going public. Dont Narrow your work.

Lol,what insecurities are you writing about? We are talking about a general Igbo musical instrument,so why are you restricting it to Idemili groups? You are more conversant with Idemili right? Other people may not have listened to Idemili music. Personally,i don't know what Idemili music sounds like. I can as well write that Udu is more prominent in Owerri music,does it make any of us correct? .
This is an Igbo musical instrument not relative to any particular region,period!

I GREW UP IN ENUGU AND ANAMBRA, AND I USED TO BE IN AN OGENE GROUP, AND I CAN TELL DAT UDU MAKES OGENE SONG LIVELY AND SWEETER, IMAGINE A HIP HOP OR RAP SONG WITHOUT KICK. NICE WRITE-UP OP.

I'm a lover of the ogene music even though I've spent less than six years of my life in the Igboland. That udu is a special instrument that has no equal world over. Bum bum bum---, bu bu bum bum bum bum and the ogene nti-ike introduced ka kan kan kan. Ogene music make me go gaga.
