Between our Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and 'officials' of the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), I don't know which of the two poses more menace on our state and federal highways.

One thing am sure of is that when it comes to extorting money from Nigerian drivers, those who parade themselves as RTEAN executives will certainly give men of the NPF a run for their money.

Why this ugly trend is more prominent in all the South-West states of Nigeria is what am yet to figure out. Drivers in this region pay nothing less than N1,000 daily. In a month, thats N30,000 and in a year it sums up to N360,000. Multiply that amount by the number of drivers in these states where this thugs operate and the revenue runs into billions of Naira. How much goes into the government purse when there is practically no way to document the illegally extorted money?

How can someone just wake up in the morning, drink a litre of ogogoro, smoke whatever brand of weed they smoke, and then carry wooden planks generously designed with 'big' nails to go and mount road blocks on Nigerian roads?

What benefit do they render to drivers? Non. Do they remit any part of the illegally extorted money to the government? I don't think so. Why are state governments allowing this thugs to rob and harrass Nigerian drivers in broad day light?

Buhari and all 36 state governments should urgently scrap the Union or bar them from creating road blocks and extorting money from Nigeria drivers.
