People shouting up and down yet they don't know the content of the Bill. The Bill does not make it legal to have sex with an 11 year old. It simply dashed out stricter punishment for those caught abusing children under 11 years old. Before the Bill such offenders did not get a life sentence, some never even saw jail time. The biggest problem with most Nairalanders and Nigerians in general is pure ignorance, everything gets done based on emotions instead of knowledge!

It's too easy to understand and that picture was from that video that went viral.
He could have done better in both cases.

. So for your own interest you leave the person that sponsored a bill and jump to the person that chaired it. You are truly a goat. At least some of the other PDP supporters use facts to criticise but you don't mind telling lies just to make your fraudulent points. That is the highest level of indecency. May God never let you go near the corridors of power or we are doomed. You are truly the devil.
You shouldn't take fools like him too seriously again, there are quite a number of them around here. They post without reasoning but with sentiments, and hatred for other regions/tribes.

. You are one of the greatest liars on earth. May God forgive you. All you do is foolishly, stupidly and brainlessly tell lies to heat up the polity. Mad man. At least have the decency to say the truth when criticising. The bill was sponsored by a PDP senator from south east. Devil incarnate.

But can you have sex with an 11yr old in the SE or any Christian household in Nigeria, the answer my friend is no.

The age was lowered to guarantee the bill's passage, the muslims would have voted against it.

The bill was originally to help defenceless children, but it has inadvertently helped paedophiles in the north.

I don't know if there's a mix-up somewhere but I think the reports may not be correct.

The initial report came from Leadership.ng and it was reported that a bill was sponsored by an Igbo senator to sentence to life jail, men who rape girls below the age of 11. Note: that might simply mean that those who rape or sexually abuse girls above age 11 will NOT be sentenced to life jail.

Another online website eventually highlighted the "11 years" and interpreted it to mean that the Senate approved 11 years as age of consent. That was what I saw online.

An Igbo senator sponsored it, not even an Hausa man so please let's find out properly before judging.

Same ish that happened with Buhari's amnesty speech. I don't even think it's got anything to do with 'emotions', I think it's plain stupidity.

Obahiangbon sef. Person go need take painkiller because of your grammar. Anyway, it is so sad that those at the NASS could stand so low to pass such wicked and archaic law. So a man of 70 can bleep an 11 years old girl and a woman of 60 can allow a boy of 11 to touch light her kpekus? Wicked. That woman senator that sponsored this bill, if watched carefully, is codedly bleeping some 12 years old boys. Shameless woman. Soon we will have mothers at 12 years since girls are allowed to be bleeped at 11.

Ignorance is a disease.
People who think the bill supports paedophilia are on their own.
Sleep with an 11 year old and see if you will not spend the rest of your life in jail.
Most will learn how to read the law accurately in kirikiri.

One step foreward, six steps backward. Of all the great and powerful Bills that can transform Nigeria and make it a better place for all to live & prosper, so this is what our so called law makers can come up with? Excuse me sir, are we sick @ the upstairs? It's like passing in2 law the right 2 rape children, that's d meaning. Hmmmmn. No wonder people refuse being called a nigerian in d outside world.
Re: Patrick Obahiagbon Responds To The 11 Years Legal Age For Sex In Nigeria by Nobody: 3:32pm On Jun 06, 2015
I see everyone has misunderstood the law.

Well....prior to the law being put in place...the penalty for molesting a child under 18 was 5 years.

Now....the penalty is still 5 years...if the child is between 11 and 17 years of age. If the child is under 11 years...the sentence becomes life imprisonment.

I am really sad that Nigerians cannot read. Sad, also at the bigotry of my own countrymen and women.
