if you can't unswrstans the analogy, feel free to ask for a breakdown instead of trying to sound smart smiley

My analogy has nothing to do with using that old car, but just know that the day the new, shiny car breaks down, you'll remember the sturdy old one that never failed.

Hype Success and co all you want, but don't use that as a pedestal to ridicule Awoniyi and co, it's not cool

Nne.. its you who's trying to sound smart here missy.

Who'd have a brand new sports utility vehicle then let it waste in the garage and decide instead to use a "trusty" old 504 for biz runs?!
Asin who?

U sure say that persin dey wise so?

Which of the two will give you more value for your money; the new utility vehicle that's used for utility purposes or a 504 whose spare parts are hard to find nowadays not to talk of countless trips to the mechanic?!

Biko.. so you're saying that you'd rather take a sola ameobi who's been with the super eagles for 3 years over maybe a Cristiano Ronaldo if you were to choose abi?

we would be better off with success on the right flank and iheanacho as the targetman. then can they change position from time to time. And yahaya on the left flank. Manu is mostly concerned about poor defensive abilities of our ryt n left back. dats y he needs pple on the flanks who can equally put in defensively. And he probably wont get dat wit success, iheanacho and even simon. Take for example, our leftback, so easy to dribble. so he needs lot of covering for by the flank guy. The coach is more concerned abt is weakness than strength.

doesn't matter how many times I try to explain, you apparently don't have the intellectual capacity to get my point.

Or maybe your head is too far up your assss to bother to understand a point. Excuse my language smiley

If you can't understand that i'm not against using Success over Awoniyi, then you're not as smart as a lot of people here are making you think you are.

Just stop putting down the other guys. Success and co are good, yes. Nobody is disputing that, but you will gain nothing from making it seem like Awoniyi and the others are trash.

That was the bone of contention with your original post. That you made it seem like those guys are a waste of space. It's a bad thing to say or insinuate and it can be highly demoralizing if they see what you think of them.

And being that you've probably never played in any competition of note, you're nobody to make such comments.

Stop talking trash about those guys. And stop making them seem useless

I have read the back and forth on who to play between Awoniyi and Success in this Flying Eagles team with keen interest.

First of all, let's all agree that whoever plays is the coach's prerogative as nobody wants to win more than the team's gaffer.

That being said, I honestly believe folks should look at the overall picture before coming to conclusions! Isaac Success might be a better striker in individual goals return but Awoniyi is definitely better in the team goals return as at the moment.

What do I mean? The number of assists and chances created when Awoniyi is upfront is phenomenal! He scored 3 goals at the AYC but also won 3 penalties! Apart from his assists, please guys, watch his off the ball runs; they are absolutely brilliant! His runs and hold up play creates chances for other team mates and also serves as an outlet for the Flying Eagles when under pressure. That so many folks do not notice this is actually baffling.

You can be sure Isaac Success will score when he's played but with Awoniyi you can be sure the TEAM (anyone on the team) will score goals. So it boils down to which scenario the gaffer prefers. Your guess is as good as mine!

I thought I explained the Nacho Brazil issue. Nacho never played as a creative midfielder for Man City. Immediately he arrived, the Coaching crew noticed he was a striker and not a midfielder. So playing against Brazil was unfamiliar to him.

That does not mean his quality is not top notch. He was playing a new position for the first time in years. At City, he plays with pace. In the midfield, he has to hold to ball to create room for players.

Note, the role Saviour played was as a left forward. He did not play as a creative midfielder. Sokari did. So do not make it look as if Sokari played the role Nacho played and did better. It is not true. Yahaya played that role in the match against Brazil.

Brother...

I guess a lot of people are carried away by success's goalscoring ability that they tend to overlook his assist ratio.

I might be wrong but I sure do know that in his brief cameo @ the U17 world cup, success had a brace of assists off iheanacho's goals in the first game against mexico.

I also know very well that Coach Garba putting Success on the flanks is also testament to his belief in Success's assist Ability. Heck, Wing-Forwards do not always score goals aplenty compared to the striker who plays @ the tip of the striking formation except in few instances like Neymar, C.ron, Sanchez and Messi.

But all in all.. I gbadun your analysis sha.. the gaffer has the final say in the end.

However... winning this tourney isn't my utmost priority..my fervent wish is that these crop of players become the mainstay of our national team ASAP...yeah..and add their coach too into the mix!

Hopefully, we'll win the next two nations cups and get to the World cup Semis or even Finals sef!

.....

Success has not played in up to 17 games now and those boys have not lost even one game. If he were Messi, they would have at least 3 losses.

Awoniyi is a better striker than Success, that Moses guy is also better than him. Even Iheanacho is on the same level as him at least. The only Higuain in the team is the same Success you're hypinng here....on top performance at U-17 African Cup sef, no be say na better competition.
......

Hehee!

And on the 24th of May.. You also categorically stated thus..

safarigirl:
please, don't compare U17 to U20. This is like comparing Senior World Cup to U23. The terrain is tougher as the age grade gets higher. This same Awoniyi won Top Scorer at the Super Six, outplaying grown men. When last did Success score? What makes you think he's in as good a form as he was 2 years ago? In football, even 3 months can change a player. On CURRENT FORM Awoniyi will have Isaac watching him from the bench

Tetteh: Ghana are very, very capable

Spirits were high after Ghana became the first of Africa's four representatives at the FIFA U-20 World Cup to book their place in the knockout stages.

Drawn into a challenging-looking Group B, the 2009 champions made it through with only an opening-game draw against Austria blemishing their record, having secured passage with a 1-0 win over Panama. The fact that pre-tournament favourites Argentina exited without a win to their name shows that the section was no formality for the West Africans.

Their 3-2 triumph over the Humberto Grondona's side, where they raced into a three-goal lead, remains the benchmark of their tournament so far for coach Sellas Tetteh. He was in buoyant mood as he led is team out of North Harbour Stadium and towards a second round tie in Wellington, though the former Black Stars caretaker boss admits they were somewhat shy of the same level of performance against the Central Americans.

“We didn't perform as well as we did against Argentina,” he told FIFA.com, “but we were still on top and we showed flashes of good play, so I think we deservedly made it into the next round. It's good [we managed to finish top] as the group was tough. It has seen three draws played and we ended up with seven points, so that clearly shows our capabilities. We'll represent the group very well.”

Challenges ahead
Ahead of group finale all four sides could have booked a place in the next round and Ghana's final game was an even encounter in Auckland. It was settled by a superb solo goal from Emmanuel Boateng, who pounced on a defensive error eight minutes from time, but great feet and a cool finish secured back-to-back wins. Panama rattled the underside of the bar and missed a penalty before the final whistle though, and Tetteh expects things only to get more difficult as they go on.

“We know as a tournament progresses it becomes tougher,” he the talkative coach explained, while clearly delighted by how events have panned out thus far. “We have prepared the boys to expect the challenges of the next stage, but I think we are capable of moving forward. We are very, very capable. We are going to work seriously towards that and we will see how it goes.”

One dark cloud ruining his sunny disposition was an injury to star midfielder and captain Clifford Aboagye, who was the tournament's third-best player as he helped the Black Satellites to a bronze medal at Turkey 2013 under Tetteh's tutelage. The coach was optimistic about his skipper's chance, but admitted only time will tell.

“He has a groin injury but we will see the gravity of it,” he said, having had to bring his side's key schemer off after the break. “We cannot say now as these are young kids who recover very fast, but all the same we have players who can fill in the gap.”

They await a meeting with the third-place side from one of groups A, C or D and Tetteh, who has the pedigree of having reached the quarter-finals at every visit to the U-20 World Cup, will be keen to not buck that trend at New Zealand 2015.

This forum is classical and bubbling! Arguments are always trashed out with facts and figures! Points are usually well analyzed in a way it will be hard to miss reading it to the end!
Coming to terms with unresolved issues are done with maturity and humbleness!
Kudos to all active, passive, observing, dormant Posters on this forum!
