Please kindly share how you process your returns in UK.
Thanks

Uk taxes are built into your purchases, when you buy things (kids stuff not included)you request the merchant gives you a tax refund form & the amount due to you as non EU resident/member is calculated &clearly stated on the form. On your way out, you show them @ the tax refund point & they give you what the form states. That's all.

make sure you go before time. You can meet a very long queue so if you are going to claim tax in UK you have to go long before your flight time. They give 2 options. They can credit your card or give you cash. I prefer cash because I spend it at duty free.
Make sure you ask for your tax refund at every shop you make your purchases. Although they have a minimum amount of purchases you can make before you can claim tax. You can gather all your receipt and go few days before your departure to claim. You will need to go with your passport.

Its UK I know, I don't think US refunds taxes.

Anyone have an idea if US does?
Yes USA do tax refund on sales for non citizen . I know there's onE inside the galleria on westheimer in Houston. All you need is your return ticket and receipts of all the stuffs you brought. There have a list of stores that qualify

Tax refunds from the UK feels so good, just feels like they're dashing you money...

Seem you have all the information you need, so why did you ask? VAT is not the same as sales tax though. Like i said, they do refund in some states. I know I asked in Elpaso last year and I was directed on how to go about it, but was just too complicated and wasn't worth it for me. And I've asked in New York before, they said no.

All the best.

modath:

There are only five states in the US that don't levy sales tax, which the seller collects at the point of purchase. They are;

Alaska
Delaware
Montana
New Hampshire
Oregon

New york's sales tax is only exempted on some stuff less than a specific amount.

VAT is not even a US thing,its mostly Euro.

I really don't like to do stuff like this but you know ;

1.I didn't ask the original question.

2.I threw up the question to the main floor cos from my experience going by the two states I've been to in the US, they don't do refunds. (The uk refund is easy and straightfoward.)

3.The question was asked based on taxation on purchase of goods. You introduced NY & VAT into the discuss and directed me to google which threw up the fact that new york does indeed tax purchases.

I do know the difference between Sales tax and VAT.

All the best.

Hello Peeps,

This platform as really been of help to me so I think I should share my experience briefly;
I applied for visa alongside my husband on our virgin passport and reason being that I was going for delivery and we were granted visa. My poe was DFW and it was very easy ( I requested for wheel chair).
My Dr is Glenn Morgan and hospital was Houston Northwest Medical Centre. I got bills for Doctor, Hospital, Pediatrician and Pathologist; I spent approximately 6500 USD for normal delivery including epidural.
I lodged at Intown Suites but discovered I would have stayed at Studio 6 at Bammel Westfield Road. Studio 6 is closer and walking distance to the hospital and Dr's (depending on your energy level). Kroger, Babies "R" Us, DD's Discount, Fallas and other stores are very close to Studio 6. It is possible to get all documents within a week post delivery. I went to Downtown Houston and got the BC within 30 minutes, I booked appointment and got Passport same day and with the help of Tanko, Visa can be gotten within 48 hours.
God is indeed faithful.
Thanks to you all and I wish us all the best.
Cheers!

I tried to do tax refund before in USA but I did not get any money. Submitted d receipts and all that. Their policy they don't give cash. They post a money order to your address in USA. That can't work. When will you come back to claim it.

Don't worry @modath, be prayerful. Chicago POE will be merciful to you, worst case scenario, they will delay you for max 5hours but they will not turn you back IJN. Did you read Akindolz experience?

It also seems most of the hosps are CASH only. They will put big caveat sef, No credit or Debit card accepted! Please hold your raw cash o! I haven't succeeded with money order yet, further compounding this dollar problem. I don tire so o!

You can also write a check of you have one or you can get someone to write one on your behalf.

Moral of the story... hold your CASH strong! which CBP in his right senses will harass you with $15k? Please take cue from @obeezydabs look for cash in Nigeria even if it's to buy from black market, make it up to $10k plus. Declare it at POE, it's not a crime. It will favour you at POE and in paying ur bills, instead of this gobe I have found myself in.

You're so on the money. Even though I went via jfk I took 12k, I just declared it and that was it. I've said you people that go via O'Hare I doff my hat... I can't whisper talk less of shout.
