Moses Simon tips Saviour to dazzle Europe KAA Gent of Belgium forward Moses Simon has tipped Flying Eagles teammate Godwin Saviour to be a big hit in Europe should he be given his chance there. Saviour, who features for Nigeria National League side Plateau United on loan from FC Sports, hogged the headlines at the U20 World Cup in New Zealand with two well-taken goals against North Korea. He has already been capped by Nigeria Olympic team. Simon won his first major trophy in Europe this past season – Belgian league championship – and he said 19-year-old Saviour could also make a name for himself in Europe because he is hungry to succeed and weighs in with his fair share of goals. “He is an aggressive forward. He is a kind of player who will succeed in Europe because he is hungry and he scores goals,” remarked Moses Simon. “I heard a little about him before I met him here (in New Zealand). In training, he showed he is a good player, but because of his age, I thought maybe the coach will only keep him on the bench. “And he was on the bench for most of the first game (vs Brazil), but in the second half against Korea, he proved many wrong. I am very happy for him.” 1 Like |

tbaba1234: I don't think anyone should care as long as we get results. Manu Garba should be given the kudos he deserves. This same set up will contain Germany I believe. It is all about team work and not individual brilliance |

Against Germany Manu has no choice but to name a midfield trio of Sokari, Idowu and Ifeanyi. The front three could be Iheanacho, Awonyi and Yahaya. Success can come off the bench in the 2nd half. 1 Like |

Moses Simon: Time to shine with Flying Eagles coming Belgian league champion with KAA Gent this past season, left-sided forward Moses Simon said he is confident he will get his chance with the Flying Eagles at the U20 World Cup in New Zealand. His late arrival in training camp has meant he has yet to feature in the group games against Brazil and North Korea. The full interview – QUESTION: How have you settled down in New Zealand with the Flying Eagles? Moses Simon: It has been great. I have settled down and trying to adapt to the team, their pace and their style of football. I’m getting there. Many fans are asking why you are yet to play your first match at the U20 World Cup. Why has it been so? The fans will always have their opinions and no player wishes to sit on the bench. So, are you disturbed you have been on the bench? No, I am not. So, you are waiting for your time to come. As long as the team are winning, I will be okay. This is your second U20 World Cup as you also featured at the 2013 edition in Turkey. How do the two teams compare? The 2013 team in Turkey were a more matured team. For the present team, there are so many young players. How far can this present Flying Eagles go in New Zealand? First of all, we have to win against Hungary. The Hungarians have good tactics but if we could dominate the midfield and keep possession, we will get a good result. Probably this would be the game you will take your bow at some point. The coach will be the one to decide that. I am ready because I’m not here to sit on the bench. When I am played, I am ready to play. You have watched the Flying Eagles first two games against Brazil and North Korea. What are your impressions so far? We gave away too many balls in the first game even when Brazil were not defending. But in the second game (vs Korea), we possessed the ball, we did not lose many balls, and that was why we dominated the Koreans. Of this young, but talented team, is there any particular player who has caught your eye? Godwin Saviour. I heard a little about him before I met him. But in training, he showed he is a good player, but because of his age, I thought maybe the coach will only keep him on the bench. He was on the bench for most of the first game, but in the second half against Korea, he proved many wrong. I am very happy for him. He is an aggressive forward. He is a kind of player who will succeed in Europe because he is hungry and he scores goals. For this World Cup, which team have most impressed you? Ghana have been impressive, it is like they have been together for a long time. They keep possession of the ball very well, they are matured and they play as a team. They can go very far in this tournament. 1 Like |

Quotes of the Day Quotes: Hungary-Nigeria Manu Garba, Nigeria coach It was a very good match for us. We wanted to score more, but still I'm happy with the 2-0 result. The Hungarians play more from the wings but we were able to control the game and the outcome. Our next game is against Germany but we are ready for any team, because if we want to be champions we have to be ready for of them. Bernd Storck, Hungary coach Today our players’ fitness level was not at 100 per cent, as it was against Brazil, and to keep pace with an opposition like Nigeria is difficult. We started well for the first 15 minutes but they were better. I wanted to give a chance to all my players so I can test their level against these quality sides and I am happy that I managed to do that. About our opponents Serbia, I have seen a little bit of their games so far and I hope my players will be 100 per cent fit in time for that game. Quotes: Brazil-Korea DPR Rogerio Micale, Brazil coach For us it’s mission accomplished. We were in a strong group with difficult games and we played very well. With a 100 per cent success rate it gave us confidence going into this match. Both Hungary and Korea DPR play a very defensive style of football and our team was able to answer with a more offensive game. I believe that we have a chance to win this title, but Serbia are a team to watch. They have been impressive in this tournament as well as competitive and disciplined, but Portugal and Germany are also very strong teams. Tonight we enjoy and tomorrow we think about the next game. Mistakes are not acceptable at this stage of the competition. An Ye Gun, Korea DPR coach We have gained a lot of experience here in New Zealand. The Asian style of football is completely different to the one in Europe and South America. This was an important lesson for my players. What is still missing for us compared to the top teams? The individual skills! We will work hard in the future, especially in the defence, too. Hopefully we will see some of these players at a full World Cup at some point in the next few years. Quotes: Fiji-Uzbekistan Frank Farina, Fiji coach It was most probably unexpected by a lot of people that we would have this opportunity going into the last game. We've most probably overachieved. I truly believed that the team who scored first would go on. I'm disappointed with the manner that the [first] goal was conceded but we really proud of how the boys have preformed and held themselves. They are very disappointed, but I told them that that's a good thing, being disappointed at not going further. The players showed not only everyone else but themselves that given an opportunity they can compete. To have a chance of going through at the last game was a dream, but unfortunately the dream didn't come true. Ravshan Khaydarov, Uzbekistan coach It was the last chance for us and in the first half we had plenty of opportunities but in the second half my players showed their skill, that they are tactically professional and we're all very happy to have got our first win - and I hope it's not our only one. I think today we played very well tactically, but in the first half we didn't get the goal. We know about Austria, they qualified from a very strong group and we've studied them a little. First of all we need to give the players so rest and after that we will begin preparing for that game. Quotes: Honduras-Germany Frank Wormuth, Germany coach This was a difficult match because Honduras played very well, especially in one-on-one situations. But towards the end of the match, they had to take more risks and that opened up more spaces for us. I'm just glad that my team performed well and managed to find a way to collect another three points. That is what makes me proud. The players have two different faces: in training, they joke around a lot, but in the match they are absolutely focused. But we also know that we still have to improve. There is still a lot of work to do. Jorge Jimenez, Honduras coach The Germans scored an early goal and that made it very difficult for us. I was proud that my players could find the perfect answer and managed to equalise. But Germany's free-kick goal right after the break then changed everything, and their third was too heavy a blow for my boys to recover from. Nonetheless, we gave a really good and organised performance today and I am satisfied with how we played against one of the best teams in the tournament. |

EagleScribes: Bulbwa tried but spent too much time on the ball thereby killing counter attack moves. He shouldn't do a lot of running with the ball but instead allow the ball move in a tip-tap style (3 passes would have done the job), honestly prefer Iheanacho/Yahaya to Bulbwa. 4 Likes |
