The silence in the room was disturbed by the buzzing sound of crickets and movement of other forms of animal life from the over grown vegetation surrounding the hut. The entrance into the room was covered with strands of straw that had fallen from what looked like the roof of the hut. A strong wooden door marked the entrance of the room closed and tightly held shut by a lock and key. There were traditional sketches lining the inner walls of the room and wooden sculptures hanged on one corner of the room. The floor was coated with cement and a plastic bucket half-filled with water lay at one corner of the room with a long deep spoon dipped into it. Susan slowly opened her heavy eyes as the reality of the perilous situation she found herself in dawned on her once again. She could feel pains all over her body but more noticeably on her wrists as the rusted iron tore deeply into her soft skin. She coughed painfully and looked around the room in despair. The dryness in her mouth and throat became even more evident as she laid eyes on the bucket. She was thirsty and she was in dire need of some water to drink, but at this point, her thirst for water wasn't her only problem. Her hair was roughened and scattered like it had been blown by a hair drier at the highest speed of rotation. Her pink blouse was torn at the helm and neck line, and a smear of blood hanged over her shoulders and stained part of her neck and left arm. Her jean trousers were stained with mud and her bare feet with covered with bruises and wounds. The horrid events of the past two days had made Susan appear older and less charming than she normally was. Her face had shrunk. Her lips were dry and appeared wrinkled. Dust and dirt covered both sides of her face, forehead, cheeks, and nose tip. Her facial expression bore signs of extreme grief, pain and weakness and her eyes were swollen from crying. Despite all this, her strikingly attractive features were still noticeable. She had a slender pretty face, a slim neck, perfectly formed _breasts and a slender physique that bore delicate curves. She could perceive the odour that emanated from both of her armpits as well as other parts of her body. Tears dripped slowly from both of her eyes as she relieved the memories of the past two days. That friday morning was just like every other. She had gotten up from bed feeling rather upbeat and cheerful. A direct opposite of her normal gloomy self. She had her day planned out perfectly. She would attend her morning lectures, go shopping for groceries in town with her best friend and roommate Anita, and after that she'd return to the hostel, cook, and spend the remaining of the evening with Charles. Book work hadn't allowed her enough time with her boyfriend but it was weekend and she was finally going to spend quality time with the guy she loved. She and Anita had returned from Mr Chima's boring Anatomy class, dropped their bags in their halls of residence and headed for the school bus stop. They had met a long queue at the shuttle spot so decided against waiting and rather went out of the school to charter a bus across the road. The school management had provided shuttles for transportation and had subsidized the price of transportation in and out of the school. Students preferred to use the buses provided by the school since it was cheaper. Anita had urged Susan to have patience and queue with the other students but susan was impatient. They both went through the gate, crossed the road and hurriedly entered into the first bus they saw that was heading to their destination. That was the last Susan had remembered and the last time she had seen Anita. The next place she had seen herself was in the room where she was currently locked up. She had woken up without any memory of what happened after she entered the bus. Anita was no where to be found but there were others that had been tied up and held captive like her. There were ten of them originally in the room. Three males and seven females, herself included, but they had subsequently been taken away and they were never brought back. She had been released and taken out of the room on two occasions On one of the occasions, she was dragged outside the hut and sexually abused by men she couldn't even see there faces. They had come into the room, tied her eyes with a black, smelly cloth and led her outside and made a meal of her body. She felt excruciating pain after that ordeal but the pain had lessened. The second time she was carried away, she was led to what seemed like another hut. The rope on her legs were removed, but unlike the last time, her hands were still cuffed and the blindfold was still on her eyes. While in the room, she heard voices of both men and women but she couldn't decipher the language in which they spoke. They made her kneel on the ground and an oily substance was placed on her fore head in a X sign. She was then forced to drink a bitter liquid from what felt like a calabash. The voice of a man screamed what seemed like incantations for a few minutes while she heard movements of people around the room like they were caught up in a dance frenzy. After a few minutes she was carried back to the room and tied once again. The last thing she had eaten was a piece of sausage roll she bought in one of the stores in her faculty on the day of her capture. Throughout her stay in the hut, she had only been served water from the bucket in the room a couple of times. This was done with a long deep spoon which was dipped in the bucket and place on her mouth by one of the heavy bodied men. As Susan sat on the floor, she thought about what must have happened to Anita and the other people who had been captured. She had heard stories of ritualists and kidnappers. Little did she know that she would be a victim of such evil. Was she going to be killed? What was the reason for her capture? She thought about Charles, about her family. They would all be so worried. All these thoughts ran through her mind in an instant as she heard footsteps approach the entrance. "Where we go carry am go?" A dark skinned man in his early forty's wearing a skirt made of animal hide asked his companion as they approached the entrance of the hut. "We go just do as the Obuwo talk", the other slimmer and younger man replied. Susan's heart leaped as the heavy door gave way and the two half clothed men walked into the room. 5 Likes 4 Shares |

Chapter Two Susan quivered in fear and panic as the two men made their way into the room and walked slowly towards her direction. She noticed they didn't come with the piece of cloth that was normally used as a blindfold. They were not with any weapons either. The older man approached her and violently loosened the rope used to tie her legs and un-cuffed her arms with a brass key tied to a thin rope he hand hung around his neck. "Young girl, we don't want any form of resistance from you, do you understand? You will remain quiet and you will do as we say. Do not utter a single word or that will be the last word you will utter in your life," The younger man said as he stared sternly at Susan with blood shot eyes. He was a direct of opposite of his partner. He had slim, handsome features and he kept a rather serious facial expression that would definitely look cute if he smiled. He looked like he was in his mid-late twenties. Her eyelid flew open in angst as she nodded her head slowly in reluctant compliance and the two men placed their hands around her upper arm and lifted her up as she struggled with her weak, wobbly legs to stand up straight. As they were about to lead her out of the room, Susan muttered what sounded like a whisper. "Please I need some water," She said, mustering what was left of her faded strength to speak. What did you say? The older man asked in an angry tone. "She said she needs some water" the younger man replied his friend and saved Susan the stress of another struggle with speech. The older man let loose his hold on her and proceeded to where the bucket was located. He carried it to where susan stood bending and shaking with one arm on her knees. He dipped the long plastic spoon into the bucket and pushed it against her mouth. Susan hurriedly positioned the spoon with her other arm that was free and drank hastily from it. She felt a rush of strength ooze through her and the ambience of pleasant relief as the liquid made it's way into her gullet. The man dipped the spoon once again and susan drank to satisfaction. "We can go now," The older man said as he placed a strong grip on her left arm and both men ushered her out of the room. Susan felt a shiver run down her spine as the cold breeze of the night hit her. The full moon was up in the sky and it's light lit up the cleared sandy area that served as habitation. This was the first time that she was out in the open without the blindfold hindering her sight. She looked around and noticed two men sitting by the fire eating what appeared to be roasted meat that they had grilled . They were dressed exactly like the men whose hands pressed tightly against her skin. She tried to see if she could find Anita or any other person who had been captured along with her but the area was devoid of any human except for those men. The two men pulled her forcefully as they marched briskly towards another hut. She noticed another man dressed the same way as the others, standing at the entrance of what looked like an enhanced and upgraded version of the hut she had been in. Aside from being larger, this one had blinds that covered the large holes that served as windows and the walls were painted with black and red paint. There wasn't any door but a black curtain covered the entrance. There was also a red rug on the at the entrance and what looked like two sculptural deities at each side. As two men moved towards the direction of this hut, it dawned on her that this had been were she was carried to the last time. But why were they bringing her here again?, She thought. Was this where she would finally exit this earth? Had the end finally come? Her thoughts were put to a halt as the two men heavy bodied men holding her stopped at the entrance of the hut. The younger man released her from his grip and moved towards the man guarding the entrance and whispered something into his ears. The man didn't reply nor bulge and the younger man made his way into the room. Susan looked up at the guard and noticed he still kept his gaze. He didn't blink, he didn't move, he just stood still like a carved structure. Susan could stand upright now and she felt stronger than before. She studied the environment in the thick of the night as her survival instincts tried to conjure up a method of escape. She could just takeoff into the thick bush behind her and scamper for her dear life, but that could not be possible with the strong grip on her. Perhaps she could tell them she wanted to urinate. Maybe that would give her space to escape. But she didn't know the area. Which direction would she run to? There was no way she could outrun these men, even if she did how would she make her way through the woods at that time of the night. She remembered the warning given to her by the hefty man holding her arms. 'She would be killed if she tried to escape but from the look of things, that would still be her fate whether she tried to escape or not. She observed and noticed that both men didn't have weapons with them, except for a cutlass that rested vertically on the wall beside the guard. In an instant she made her decision. She was going to bite the man holding her hands and make a run for it. She breathed deeply as she moved to actualize her impulse-ridden plan. 1 Like 2 Shares |
