A current of 0.50A flows for 16mins 5seconds and deposits 0.163g of a metal X during the eletrolysis of an aqueous solution of a salt of the metal. What is the charge on the metal ion? A. ±4 B. ±3 C. ±2 D. ±1 3. What volume of Oxygen measured at STP would be liberated by passing a current of 10A into a Hoffman's voltameter containing acidified water for 965 seconds? A. 5.60 dm3 B. 0.560 dm3 C. 11.2 dm3 D. 1.12 dm3 4. What mass of bromine would be produced during the electrolysis of molten lead(II) bromide in which 10.35g of lead was deposited?[Pb=207, Br=80] A. 4.00g B. 7.00g C. 4.50g D. 8.00g I intentionally added options cos there is a high proclivity for people to mix things up...ending up with weird answers. 1. Al^3+ + 3e- ↔ Al ....1mol of Al → 3F .....(1/27) mol of Al → (1/27 x 3F) From Aluminium we can deduce that .......F/9 → ₦4.00 For Copper .....Cu^2+ + 2e- ↔ Cu .....1 mol of Cu → 2F .....(24/64) mol of Cu → 24/64 x 2F .......................................... → 3F/4 So we can just use proportion, ...........F/9 → ₦4.00 ...........3F/4 → (3F/F) / 9 .....................→ (3F x 9)/ F ....................→ 27g when you use 96500c instead of F, then you will get 27.02g aproximately. 2. So so sorry, I never gave you the RMM of X, its 65, now try again. 3......Q = It .........Q = 10 x 9650C .........Q= 9650C therefore, ......................4F → 22.4dm3 ................9650 → 0. 56dm3 Odilop, sorry but it was not the right answer, I've got two similar questions before me, this and another, whose answer was what you got. 4. Pb2+ + 2e- ↔ Pb .....1 mol of Pb → 2F (10.35/207)mol of Pb →0.05 x 96500 .............................................→9650C For Bromine .....2Br- - 2e- ↔ Br2 .....1 mol of Br → 2F .....X mol of Br ←9650C .......X= 9650/2F .......X= 0.05mol but, mol = mass/ molar mass 0.05mol = M/ (80 x2) M= 0.05 x 80 x 2 = 8.00g ------------------------------------------------ Sorry for any inconvieniences. This was the question I thought I posted If 6.4g of copper is deposited in a copper calorimeter connected in series with a Hoffman Voltameter, the volume of Oxygen liberated at stp is? A. 0.112 dm3 B. 11.2 dm3 C. 1.12 dm3 D. 22.4dm3 |

horpeyemmi66:I = 0.5A, t = (16*60)+5 = 965s, m = 0.163g, M = 65, n = ? From the relation MQ = nFm n = MIt/Fm Therefore n = (65*0.5*965)/(96500*0.163) n = 1.99, approximately +2 |
Re: University Of Ibadan 2015/16 Applicants by mathefaro(m): 7:58pm On Jun 08, 2015 |
horpeyemmi66:1 mole of O2 = 4F = 22.4dm3 I.e 4*96500 = 22.4dm3 10*965 = x x = 224*965/4*96500 x = 224/400 x = 56/100= 0.56dm3 |

cassyrooy:Question 1 and 4 was set to see how alert you guys were, some passed but all failed number 1. The 'delibrate' increase not 'persistent' or 'continous' increase... It would be easier if any word goes along increase is termed 'inflation'. Reinflation is an economy tool mainly used by the government to achieve certain goals in an economy. Advantages of Inflation are numerous but one states clearly that, 'it encourages investment' In an economy where the investment rate continues to fall the government might create artificial inflation(Reinflate prices) through an extimated period of time so as to attract both local and foreign investors into the economy. In Question 4, A and C were correct but you need to thoroughly scrutinize your options before choosing them. A - The lack of specialize managerial expert wont hurt but you'll walk away with just a half mark. These guys were trained for these jobs why call them unqualified, unless someone in a superior place calls the shot by interferring even to who is employed or sacked. These people will be feared and everyone will kow-tow to their will-the will of the adminstration in power. |
