Amen, bro! There was this guy I heard his response to a VO's question. This is how it ensued:
VO: Why did you choose the school?
The Boy: it's because of my SAT score.

The boy still got his visa approved. It's good to be prepared, but one has to make God the zenith in all one's doings.

Hi stewie.... U need to research schools online. Check this following criteria
1. There GRE requirements and TOEFL. Some have it on their dept website those that don't u will av to purr the internet for it. But trust me u cn get an idea online. Knowing this is so that u cn manage ur expectation and not applying to MIT wen ur scores can only get u into a far lower ranking school.
2. Ensure u meet the deadlines so u cn be considered for assistantships. For must schools it's automatic to be considered once u meet the departmental deadline which is different from the school deadline.
3. Consider costs. State schools and public schools are cheaper.
4.dream high and aim low together. Apply to schools ur scores meet are below and are above. Mostly apply to more schools that ur scores are above their requirements
4a. Research on the graduate faculty to know their research interests and align ur statement of purpose to what research is 'hot' in that school.
5.Ensure ure in close contact with admission office and your intended school dept and ask for advice thru emails anytime you're in doubt.
6. Write a solid statement of purpose. Take your time to do this. Let people proof read it for u. Don't let it be last minute.
7. Ensure you get very good letters of reference from your undergraduate lecturers. Most Nigerian lecturers are lazy. Some may allow you to write it for them. Grab this opportunity. The ones that won't, ensure you see what they are sending and you're fine with it.
8. Get ur admission or admission with grad assistantship.
9. Keep contacting the grad faculty and grad admissions till u get ur visa for other post admission and visa requirements.
10. Will be updated when I get a visa by God's grace.
11. Give all glory to God and upload your visa interview success transcript with the VO. To help other nairalanders

Ermmmm, i didn't ask for that info.

He is an uncle whether mother's brother or father's brother.

Don't make it sound awkward.

You will definitely be asked questions as to why your maternal uncle is sponsoring you. Be prepared to give an answer.

Good day all,

I have just renewed my passport, after its expiration, and I'm in the process of scheduling an appointment with the new passport. I logged into the appointment schedule website but I have been unable to change the previous passport number to the new one.
I wrote the US embassy a mail 2 weeks ago, but I have not received any response at all.

Can someone please advise on the best course of action. I have already paid at GTB. Would it be ok for me to just make an appointment with the expired passport and go to interview with the 2 passports?

Lol. Thats partly true but

i)Some VOs make their decisions based on what they have in front of their screens and what your school uploaded on SEVIS Database irrespective of what youre saying. Some people will yarn dust and still be granted..that's why some say they know who they'll give and who will be denied
ii)Some VOs make their decisions based on your poise, confidence level and how you respond to questions.
Either way, some things are red flags and will attract negative attention
These guys have split seconds to make decisions and thus, it is imperative that students make sure that they create a positive impression in a few mins
