''A Dwarf Cannot Rule Akure” – Youths Protest Against Deji-elect by lalasticlala(m): 6:43pm On Jun 08, 2015
There was protest this morning in Akure, the Ondo State Capital following the emergence of Prince Kole Aladetoyinbo as the new Deji of Akure elect.

Aladetoyinbo, was among 13 princes who contested for the throne which had been declared vacant since December 1, 2013, following the death of the former Deji, Oba Adebiyi Adesida.

The protesters, who are mainly supporters of the deposed Deji of Akure, Oba Adepoju Adesina protested to the governor’s office, requesting the State government not to approved the appointment of the new Deji-elect.

Some of the protesters, who spoke with our reporters said apart from the fact that there was a court case pending , Aladetoyinbo was not qualified to be the Deji of Akure.

They argued that the Deji-elect had staunch on the back, bald head and also a dwarf. They said these characteristics, he is not qualified as Deji as stipulated by the tradition.

In a protest letter signed by Adesina family’s spokesperson, Prince Dapo Adepoju Adesina, and addressed to the Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, the protesters described the emergence of Aladetoyinbo as illegal.

The letter reads: “We want to bring to the notice of Mr. Governor that the Adesina family was part of the struggle that eventually made him the elected governor of the State.

“Aside the personal supports of the deposed Deji’s family members, Adesina donated both in cash and kind to support Governor Mimiko.

“Sir, it will be recalled that the Labour Party (LP) then in Akure was ophan in which some people were not bold enough to associate with the party, but one of the elder brothers of the deposed “Deji” released his hotel, known as “Crown Guest House” free of charge for meetings in support of your Excellency.

“These are the few among the numerous supports given to your Excellency during the trenchy period.

” Despite the deposition of Adesina in 2010, the guest house was still been used by your foot soldiers and leaders of LP in your support during the governorship poll in 2012.

“With this it shows that we voted for you during your second term election in 2012.

“Sir, we want you to tamper justice with mercy, because we believe that the sin of Adesina is pardonable, considering the fact that such happened in Owo in which late Oba Olagbegi was deposed and Oba Ogunoye was enthrone as the King, but the death of Ogunoye, the government under the administration of Governor Olumilua reinstated Olagbegi back as King in which your Excellency was part of the Excos of the administration then.”

Instead of legally divorcing his wife, the man caused her to be badly beaten and then poured acid on her which later led to her death. Yet those clowns want the government to forgive and reinstate him to the throne. What about the feelings of the late woman's family?

A thousand dwarfs are preferable to that animal. angry

Na dem sabi sha. It won't be long before the machètes, dane guns and other so called fetish stuff make it to the scene and bloodletting becomes the order of the day. We now how these things end up. The police need to step in now to forestall any violence and not after the fact.

So after the crime the deposed Deji of Akure commited, his family still wants him back on the throne? Chai, my people no longer have shame. embarassed

The whole protest was political and was instigated by the deposed Deji's family. Meanwhile, CSOs and human rights activists should sue them for making such irresponsible statements. Isn't there a law that prohibits discrimination of physically challenged people in Nigeria?

Back in the days of our forefathers, when a king passes-on, they consult the oracle to choose a new king whose tenure will bring peace and fortune to the land. These days, same can't be said angry. I wonder what is responsible for this. Have those oracles gone on exile or what? Why can't the kingmakers go back to how things were done during their fathers.
