Hello guys! Please do anyone know any government-owned health centre where one can have his mmr, meningitis and hepatitis shots, and also do tuberculosis skin test at a cheaper rate in Lagos? Location closer to Mile 2 or Cele or Isolo or Festac with be a plus.

I did some of my tests in LUTH...
I remember doing the TB one there, I was asked to go a specific type of syringe for the test, I came back the ffg day for the result.
All the other shots you need to take are quite expensive. Try and take it before you come, it's more expensive here in the US.

I took mine at the accident and emergency building (3rd or 2nd floor) not sure. It's the primary healthcare department.

Don't forget your yellow card, go to the airport to get that( also go with your passport) so they'll let you in.

Starting a business is a great idea, ambitious and often encouraged but the truth is...
After grad you'll be too broke and won't have the capital needed to start the 'Chemist'(business) grin
A more realistic approach is to find and hold a job till you save enough to start your own.

Even a retarded VO will agree with you and oblige you visa.
meaning I could say after I complete my studies I want to work for NAFDAC and after a few years I will set up my own pharmaceutical business....abeg no be chemist business o...hahahaha. Thanks bro

Thanks, Stewee! To get you right I can do the tuberculosis test in LUTH? I can go to the airport and get the yellow card and it must not necessarily be the day I'm traveling? What about the mmr and meningitis shots, where can I get those? How much do you estimate it might cost me?

In LUTH, NO!
For the TB test you have to come back the ffg day for the result.
For the others, if you have the money it can be arranged...

There's a magic word ppl use in LUTH, just tell them you're a staff's son. Works like magic. grin

In most cases, people use another course of study to get here. Pharmacy is extremely expensive for even citizen so they had to get loan. It will be so hard to convince a VO about how you will pay and if you go with a forged SOA, you might be flagged.

Since you are a grad. Why not go for masters then find a way to get into pharmacy school.

Btw, which pharmacy school is that? Because I know u need to tke some college pre Reqs and write PCat before getting admit.
Is it pharmd or B.pharm?

If your Intended prog is B.pharm then you are wasting resources.

To do the TB test (Mantoux skin test)in Luth, go to WARD D4(it's the last floor of the children's ward).

He ask you to go buy a specific type of syringe (I don't recall the size I Woulda told you). The syringe costs N100 or less and the test costs 1 or 2k(cant remember)
You'll have to come back the ffg day for the result.

About your yellow card, you can go there prior to your travel date so you don't stress yourself on you departure date. They gave me 2 shots for yellow fever and chicken pox(i think).
If you've taken these vaccines within the past 10years then you really don't need to take another shot. I took those vaccines and felt sick almost immediately and it lasted for a few days. That's gonna cost you N1000. (Plz go with your passport cos the clinic is at the arrival lounge and our army would wana be their usual over bearing selves. You can also do it on your travel day and they usually give preference to travellers departing that day. Save yourself the stress though.

About your other shots,
Go to the accident and emergency building and find the healthcare dept( it's the 2nd or 3rd) floor. The place is very confusing for ppl who ain't used to it so you gotta ask. They'll tell you how much you need to pay to buy the vaccines cos they never have it in stock. I paid over 20k for them. I didn't believe it!

My brother I don't think so, because they have scheduled time and day for each immunization and vaccines taker, some Tuesday & other Friday and the result is not instant. I think the best thing is to give ursf enough time, because Luth is the only place in Lagos you can get better result with small money for everything you need....... Or better still go to UCH ibadan, things snappy there, is where I done my own.
Best of luck my brother....................

Yeah crazily expensive. ...if you go to luth be ready to wait hours before they attend to you....what made my own worse was that they don't keep the shots at the clinic coz no light (imagine) and it was the day apc de pick campaign candidate .... the guy bringing it was stuck in hold up.....i took a document from school ...so all the shots I took were ticked there so I didn't have to come back the next day

Ok, boss. But Jakeharris and Stewee, when we were babies didn't our moms take us to the hospitals to those vaccines against MMR and Meningitis? grin Why I'm asking is because I'm planning on skipping the shots. What do you guys think?

Visa approved in Abuja this morning.

I could not sleep last night...not sure i slept for up to an hour grin. Mom came to my room at 5:30am, we prayed together and she wished me well. Drove out of the house at 6am for the 7:30am interview. Had to stop by to pick a friend whose interview was same time as mine. We arrived at the embassy at 6:45am and were ushered in at 7:25am.

After all the formalities, at 8:20am interview commenced...at this point, my heartbeat increased but after listening to a number of interviews i was more confident - I can't imagine while people seeking F-1 visa should go to the embassy without writing at least one standardized test. I listened to at least four student visa interviews and none of them wrote a standardized test and of course all got denied. At that point i knew I had greater chances of sealing it. Fast forward>>> the lady in counter 7 (wearing blue) kept issuing denial forms. It got to a point that a young girl had to excuse herself claiming she was pressed and needed to use the toilet all in a bid to avoid counter 7 grin. I was now praying that the counter 7 lady should not interview me since she has not issued any visa after 4 interviews. Then i changed my prayer point and said God, let whoever who will issue me visa interview me.

At 8:40am, i was called to counter 7. Below is the transcript:

Me: Hi, Good morning
VO: Good morning

VO: Pass me your documents
Me: I gave her my I-20, Sevis receipt, DS-160 and GTB receipt

VO: Where are you going to?
Me: Montana State University

VO: Why Montana State University?
Me: The department's curriculum aligns well with my intended course of study and their research area suits my career plan. The department also has a research laboratory

VO: Have you traveled out of Nigeria before?
Me: Yes, i have been to United Arab Emirates twice

VO: What did you go there for?
Me: Vacation

VO: Where do you work?
Me: xyz company, a health care management consulting firm

VO: How long have you been working there?
Me: 5 years

VO: What do you do there?
Me: I work as a Data Analyst

VO: What will this degree do for you?
Me: I intend to return to Nigeria to continue with my current job as i have been granted a study leave. I also expect the degree to further equip me to be a better Statistician and Data Analyst

At this point she was typing very fast

VO: So who is funding you? She was looking at my I-20 while asking
Me: I got a full tuition waiver and stipend through Teaching Assistantship. However, my elder brother will provide me with monthly stipend. In addition, i have my own personal savings

She smiled

VO: Do you know Montana is very cold
Me: Yes i know, i spoke to Prof. John a professor in the department who told me how extreme it can be

It now became a gist o

VO: Yes, it can be very cold. Same way Nigeria is always hot is the same way Montana is always cold.
Me: I even check their weather on regular basis online and i can confirm that

VO: Don't buy your winter jacket in Nigeria. You will get them in Montana
Me: I smiled because i knew it was a done deal Thank you for your advise ma'am

VO: Your visa has been approved...it will be ready for pick up before the end of the week at xyz...you cannot enter the United States before 30 days prior to resumption which means you can only arrive the US after 16th July...
Me: Thank you! Thank you!

She return my I-20 form and the letter stating where i should pick up my passport. I turned back excited heading to the exit and did the "sign of the cross".

I give God all the glory. He is my Number 1. The gurus in the house have been my source of inspiration. Special thank you to Slimmy05 who assisted in paying my SEVIS fees. To my new found friend and brother, Innovativeame, God bless you plenty plenty - i owe you a lot. To bbdd, imperiouxx, Walspring, Bigfrancis21 and zeezahbee, your contributions on this thread have been valuable. Thank you!

Way forward for prospective applicants:
1. Confidence is KEY during the interview
2. Write at least one standardized test - if possible two (SAT & TOEFL; GRE & TOEFL; GMAT & TOEFL) or as demanded by your program
3. Follow the contributions on this thread
4. Pray, Fast and Let God take control of everything..

THANK YOU
