Because it would have being a waste of time and effort. APC is the majority in the house. Even if all PDP members decided to elect a Senate President in the absence of APC senators. They won't be enough as required by the Constitution so the election would become void.

And if you are thinking they could have back stabbed saraki and voted for a PDP candidate, all APC needs to do gather next week and impeach the person they elected because they are the majority.

Even rite now Saraki must hope his friends in APC now continue to remain his friends, because if he looses those friends, at any little chance to impeach him, the APC majority will impeach him immediately and PDP won't be able to do anything about it.

What really happened was that the PDP believed dat the majority party in the house should produce the senate president, so they they stood by that principle.

What you are forgetting is that Northerners are clannish, they will stick together regardless of party. What really happened yesterday was a Northern take over and it will only solidify Buhari's term. Do you think Buhari couldn't have stopped it taking place? He chose not to because it puts his brothers in place regardless. Buhari is more astute politically than you think and I think he's the one who really betrayed Tinubu but he is forgetting what happened between GEJ and Obasanjo, he will need Tinubu later as his Northern friends won't always be enough

I don't think so. I think what really frightened them was the fear of losing out completely (when they already have a bird in hand) in an event they went against the deal they had brokered with Saraki.

They might have thought, if we nominate one of our own, the absentee law makers just might turn up out of nowhere, and cast their votes in favour of their party's preferred candidate. The "Sarakis" would have revolted, having been stabbed in the back, and held proceedings hostage until the arrival of their colleagues.

Upon commencement of voting, they definitely would have leaned towards their party's candidate because it would have been foolhardy still supporting Saraki since he wouldn't have up to 15 votes without the votes from PDP. Eventually, the PDP gambit would have fallen flat on its face and they would have had neither the post of the president or deputy.

PDP were not the real. PDP would have backed Lawan if Saraki had emerge APC Candidate. PDP had announced they just want to be a spoiler for inexperienced APC.
The. Real culprit were those 8 APC senators that relinquished their party’s directive for their personal interest.
Buhari made a mistake by ignoring the earlier disagreement within APC. He should have intervened at the party level. You can't afford not to. PDP is only out for ONE thing - the fall of APC
