Hello house, You guys on this thread are unsung heroes of foreign admissions. This thread is the Nigeria the media won't show you. I need your counsel. I have an admission into a postgraduate program in a US school for Fall. I just got my Form I-20. The source of funding stated therein is "Family Funds." Now, I've been recommended for a teaching assistantship by a professor (I've been in touch with) in the school & learned decisions would be made in the 2nd week of July. It's somewhat assured. Do I go on ahead and schedule a visa interview using the expected Form I-20 with "Family Funds" as means, or do I wait to be awarded the assistantship, then order a new Form I-20 that would reflect the teaching assistantship? (I've heard from some quarters that your odds of getting a visa is better when an assistantship is listed as your funding source as opposed to family funds.) Please help out. Thanks. |

You're welcome. I hope you have called the school for the I20 for the F2 Visa by now. One more thing though... In my previous post I said that you and your dependent will have the same sevis number. I was wrong about that. I had to clarify with a friend's. And I see that everyone including me assumed it was the same sevis number because both forms are identical (almost). The differences in the I20's are 1. The name on the I20 2. The sevis no at the top right side of the form 3. The designation or title above the sevis numbers. Yours will bear student's copy and the other, dependent's copy. 1 Like |

Go ahead with your interview. I don't see you having issues with your visa as you sound smart. Book your interview for 3rd week of July, if they eventually award you the assistantship your professor can send you a scanned type written document to that effect you can take to the embassy.
