The said increment was agreed by GEJ's administration and was supposed to take effect in April but postponed till now.

PMB will have to look into the previous agreement and see how they can adjust if necessary.

Stop being spreading false misinformation, genuine importers having been fighting these new traffits for over a year, this is a policy of the last government, after protesting these new traffits the old govt delayed its implementation until january this year and since january we have been paying the new traffits go and ask your uncle how much he has been clearing his goods in the port since january, you people were shouting GEJ forever mean while he was selling you to the slave market, suddenly you find yourself in chains and you are now crying. Those importers complaining now are friends and family of the old govt they never used to pay duty while the rest of us were paying they can go to HELL

Very bad move for an import dependant nation that hasn't set adequate machineries and infrastructures to engage in manufacturing and exportation.

High petrol prices,high price of food stuffs,high price of commodities.what's the benefit to the common man,especially those that are been owed salaries?

PMB government should do something about all these,else its gonna be a very hard time for the government not just the people.
How do they expect the common man to survive with the merger salaries been paid. Workers will demand for increase in salaries,which will translate to inflation and anarchy cuz government doesn't even have the resources to facilitate salary increment.

They can generate funds without all these drastic moves which is detrimental to the common man.

Domestic producers benefit by ultimately facing reduced competition in their home market, which leads to lower supply levels and higher prices for consumers. Less of the good is produced, and consumers pay higher prices.

Although-When a consumer does purchase a higher-priced imported good with a tariff imposed on it, the consumer now has less money to spend on other things. This forces consumers to either buy less of the imported good or less of some other good, ultimately lowering the purchasing power of consumers. It is important to remember that although consumers may pay higher prices because of tariffs and have limited options, the potential benefit is that domestic sales of goods can increase, ultimately leading to higher domestic sales and more jobs for companies inside the country[s]

Let the companies locally compete on quality and price. Why should locally assembled autos with crazy tax breaks and already reduced import duties be anywhere near as expensive as imported vehicles?

All the 16 members of the ECOWAS, including Nigeria, had agreed to introduce a uniform import tariff, pegged at 35 per cent maximum, from January this year, to facilitate trade within the region.

Although the Nigeria Customs Service said the policy had taken effect on April 11, it was not enforced until Monday.

What is wrong with some of this guys did you not see the date was buhari in power at that time. J boy wss the one that did it.

I told some dealers who were saying they would vote buhari because the APC promised to reduce the tariff at port,that they were just wasting time but they refused to listen to me. At a period where oil prices are falling and govt is looking for more means of income,reducing your source of revenue will never be an alternative. Instead,govt will be looking for ways to increase revenue. Personally,I supported this decision under Jonathan,and would still support it under Buhari.
I hope I have justified myself when I told some people that their reason for voting APC is faulty.

Nb: I am not against the buhari led FG on this matter. I'm for it.

Good move, Local industries would now get the necessary attention needed. Too much importation should be discouraged because, it weakens the economy rather than building it.

I wonder why some people were/are blaming government and to the extent of calling the new president (who had not been sworn in when the policy was introduced) all sorts of names.
