Molar mass of a compound is 2x the relative density...
So, given, C2H4O as empirical formula,
The molecular formula becomes;
(C2.H4.O)n =44x2 (the molar mass)
We're given their atomic number, so substituting it becomes,
(12x2+1x4+16x1)n = 88
It becomes, 44n =88
n=2

So we input 2 for n in the empirical formula to get the molecular formula...
That becomes,
(C2.H4.O)2
=C4H8O2.
