SAAF gripen doesnt have the endurance of a dedicated platform. Gripen is a multirole aircraft, if you want to do ISTAR you will have to sacrifice things like weapons payload, fuel carriage, higher crew workload. E.t.c plus short time on station. The Gripen can only dash in and out of the theater to re-fuel or re-arm. Look below for ISTAR king of Africa.

[size=14pt]

Nigerian air force ATR-42 Surveyor aircraft is truly the African king of ISTAR, it flies 11 hours continuous operation at low, medium, and high altitudes.

Many American, Asian, and European ISTAR aircraft CANNOT match the super-long endurance mission capability of NAF ATR-42, and the NAF aircraft is also a MULTI-MISSION ISTAR aircraft for both maritme/ocean and land/ground military operations.

Even the British air force trying to copy Nigeria by upgrading their Sentinel R.1 aircraft to do maritime ISTAR so that they can improve Royal air force to Nigeria's super-majestic level in ISTAR.

South African air force is now 166 years behind Nigeria in ISTAR.

NO ARGUMENT !!

You should consider a career in Nollywood SiFi scrip writing Mr fantasy researcher.

Can you please outline the specs about the Sentinel being a inferior aircraft compared to your dummy model ATR-42.

I posted it yesterday, Britain has decided to copy Nigerian ISTAR power by upgrading the RAF Sentinel to become maritime patrol like NAF ATR-42 Surveyor, the world power British air force wants to become multi-mission ISTAR power like Nigeria.

However, British air force has NOT found anything worth copying from the ancient category South African air force that is 166 years behind NAF

It is higher than the any level S.A has, and this is what is important.

ATR is nothing but just a bloody maritime patrol aircraft (MP).
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 2:51pm On Jun 13, 2015
The sad thing is that ATR cannot see villages being ransacked by BH everyday. They cannot see pirates who are stealing oil in Nigeria's shores everyday.

Each has it's own advantages, ATR-42 is MULTI-MISSION ISTAR for land and sea warfare and that makes it better than the Sentinel until the British complete their upgrade to make the Sentinel do maritime ISTAR like Nigerian ATR-42.

Sentinel is a more expensive aircraft with overall higher specs, but the ATR-42 does the same job.

Both were tested in Boko Haram war and results were the same in ISTAR data output.

South Africa is 166 years behind Nigeria with your Cucumber shaped Dakota C-47 flying coffin shocked shocked

What you are telling us here is that the Nimrod Sentinel that's now retired from the RAF since 2010, is an inferior aircraft compared to the flimsy ATR's.

I looked at the overall specs of both maritime aircraft and the Sentinel's are mile's ahead in all aspects. I really think you should put your petty ego aside and admit you are talking shiiiit.

even if the sentinel is better, south africa still doesn't match Nigeria in that category.

if you do... state the platforms... that simple

We have thousands of categories for which we are far better than NAF. Tell me do you have 4th gen fighters? Submarines? Frigates? Tactical data link? etc.

Nope !

I NEVER said Sentinel is better, it just has higher specs in aircraft performance, that's what I mean by overall higher specs.

ATR-42 and Sentinel are almost equal, each having it's own advantages. Size and engine gives the Sentinel overall specs advantage in areas of aircraft flight performance NOT the ISTAR mission itself.

NAF ATR-42 has far superior radar range over RAF Sentinel.

Mission :

ATR-42 - Multi-mission land and sea upgrade complete
Sentinel - Single-mission land only, plans for upgrade

Endurance :

ATR-42 - 11 hours
Sentinel - 14 hours

Speed :

ATR-42 - 518 km/h
Sentinel - 918 km/h

Ceiling :

ATR-42 - 7.6 km
Sentinel - 15 km

Radar range :

ATR-42 - 407 km
Sentinel - 333 km

Nigerian Air Force = American Air Force & British Air Force in ISTAR power !

South African Air Force = Mozambican Air Force & Rwandan Air Force tongue tongue

The ATR-42 is without question the best surveillance plane in SSA. If NIMASA goes through with the additional 7 units, even better.

NAF are expecting 3 additional surveillance planes, while immigration are going to get 3 more.

J-10B, Rafale, Eurofighter typhoon, F-16 block 60 and SU-35 are all the same class of fighters.
