Rubish! In as much as Bashir is not a saint, you have no right what so ever to hand a visiting president who is on an official duty to your country to any stupid ICC with selective judgement. Obama and his stupid friends should stop trailing African leaders. Yes, we may be everything that represent bad governance but they should keep off our zones because we don't interfere in their business. The only reason they go after selected few is because they intend to keep Africa suppressed under the western arm forever but when the strong leaders say NO to such impunity, they begin to orchestrate their fall in a light to paint such African leaders BAD.
What has ICC ever said about the useless blood sucking islamic state or the various terrorists running free on the surface of the globe?
South Africa is biting more that she can chew. They are not the giant of Africa so they had better quit acting like they are. They should never forget where they are coming from and how the rest of Africa helped them get to where they are now. Bashir should clean his house. He has a daylight snitch betraying him back home.

Buhari should mind the way he travels these days especially to South Africa!

They might arrest him one day...

There is nothing to be celebrated in this saga, in fact SA government should do everything to scuttle the politically motivated trial instigated by an opposition who thinks pandering to the west is the pinnacle of success.
Till date US is non signatory to ICC charter meaning no American official even if he/she destroys the whole world can be tried at the Hague.
Kudos to the AU for standing their ground.

SA better not go ahead and detain a president of a SOVEREIGN African country on AFRICAN soil . It is the highest level of disrespect. Though I am not crazy about this despot called Bashir, then we should talk about George Bush as a free man today after instigating a TRUMPED up war against Iraq which we later found out that He lied just to get into Iraq AGAINST the UNITED NATION RESOLUTION. The so called war has caused so much mayhem in Iraq till today and lives are being lost daily. I haven't heard of ICC chasing George Bush??

Can't be done.South Africa cannot hand over Bashir.
The repercussions would be felt all over.
Bashir committed war crimes, but it would be left for a subsequent Sudanese govt to repatriate him or not, not to a foreign govt he was allowed to set foot on.Its like kidnapping a foreign president,it's not done.
George Bush committed a more serious war crime too but he playing golf all over the place.

South Africa doesn't have the cohones to pull a stunt like that. The repercussions would be dire. Bashir is not exactly a basket of fruits but let Sudan deal with him at a time of their choosing. Not another African state he travelled to on a diplomatic immunity and inviolability

@Omenka, @ Barcanista,@ Temitemi,@ Ibn sultan what is your take on this issue? What are the dire consequencies of this act if South Africva should follow through with this process
I really don't see this falling through. The consequences, as you suspect, would be dire. It would set a bad precedence, creating a very bad blood between both countries which could degenerate into an intractable diplomatic row.

Bashir attended the event with the full assurances of the South African authorities that he enjoys immunity. The president has questions bordering on war crimes to answer, no doubt, but this certainly is going to precipitate events that could stump the alleged war crimes he committed with regards severity if carried out- not to mention the mistrust towards the South Africa such could generate amongst other sister nations.

In addition, there's no gainsaying this would trigger reprisals in Sudan against South African nationals, and if they happen to be many of them resident there, too bad then.

By and large, I don't see this happening.

This is wrong, detaining a sitting African President! Though he did wrong he should be captured in his country if they can, South Africa may have just invited war.

Just when africa is trying to cement relationship among its AU member, ICC makes a devillish request. This will breed mistrust in the entire continent. If ICC want him they can seek the help of america. They are good at destroying countries that wont do their bidding.

My thoughts exactly.
Omar al-Bashir is a war criminal who must face justice, but the Sudanese leader was in South Africa on a diplomatic ticket and mission. Arresting him wil be the most irresponsible act of any government.
Even the USA have failed to arrest the Iranian leader on there soil on several occasion.
arrest Iranian leader for wat? U must reply post,or else!

what image r u talking about? Does AU look like an organization with objective? AU is just a committee of old friends not for the interest of Africa.
AU has not accomplished single objective right from the time of OAU.
AU can not successfully sustain a mission or resolution without UN, US or West support or opinion.

better this way.

And what is the right thing if i may ask, please tell me which america citizen not to talk of President has been arrested for what happened in iraqi or Libya. i swear a lot of black have slave mentality

Don't mind the hollow headed illiterate. Can any African country dare arrest 1 single American citizen for anything at all? Which nation on earth has ever committed the crimes U.S ever committed? Who did anything to them. This is just a clear sign of destroying the African Union. If leaders can not be guaranteed the security of going for an AU meeting and returning in peace, how many will turn up eventually? South Africa better not be used as a pawn to destroy our African Unity and the growth we are trying to build.

I thought Bashir is wise. He ought to know SA is too advanced unlike other poor African country that give him red carper/state welcome with his genocide tag.

The message is very clear and like hope for many African countries that want to follow civilized footpath..... The last dictator in Europe was executed with his wife same day, same spot.
Name one Africa leader that has ever been questioned, arrested or executed by the Judiciary power? = non.

I could give you a few, namely Charles Taylor, you name one acting president who has ever been arrested anywhere in the world, SA should stop trying to act like the US, this will not amount to much, tomorrow we'll hear Bashir has landed in Sudan. Prosecute your apartheid bosses first before you try acting like Africa's police.
