Shymm3x: Fulani men from firsthand knowledge I have of them are very capable men, with a religion that encourages scholarship, a culture that promotes conquest and brutal vengeance, and a herd mentality where the Sarki can never be wrong, Obasanjo fears those people like shiit! The south failed to unite, primordial sentiments triumphed over collective purposefulness, there was/is no rallying point. This will continue to be our bane, and why we will always be subservient to them. |

atlwireles: Couldn't have said better....idk why anyone blames Fulani for what's happening. The Fulani have always followed the same role through out history. The 3 times buhari ran for president, the Fulani voted for him each three times. So why blame them for Yoruba stupid1ty. The handwriting was on the wall, both SS and SE warned SW repeatedly but "I sabi kno better" overshadowed them. It came and bit them in the @ss 3 Likes 1 Share |

MrPresident1: Lol, I understand the dynamics of their culture and mentality, from an historical POV - and I know how they operate. Heck, I told Eurobomber last week that they're just warming up with their vengeance. Seriously, who among the Nigerian elites doesn't fear them? Even the normal folks fear them, judging by the way their bororos (the pikeys among them) go around killing/maiming folks with impunity. The first law of power is to put fear in people and they've mastered it. Anyway, I honestly don't know how folks can be shiit-scared of people who bleed just like them, to be honest. Unity in the South is a pipe-dream based on how the country was structured from the get-go. The overly aggressive and emotional temperament of Igbos will never be able to unite properly with the peaceful and jolly temperament of the Yoruba. More like a cat and mouse game. And that will always play into the hands on the Fulanis, the owners of Nigeria - with just basic divide and conquer strategy. 4 Likes |

Shymm3x: Bros, you have summarized it all. There is no common rallying point in the south, that critical zone of continuity where we all can converge and see reason is just not there, unlike in the north where they have the Hausa language and the Islamic religion. Fulanis like the Somalis, are a learned, proud and warlike people, and a people with deep and longstanding heritage. They are not lost people per se. They are the owners of Nigeria, and until there is that point of convergence in the south, they will continue to rule us. Of course with their knowledge of subterfuge and divide-and-rule, give the Yoruba man plenty amala for jollyment, give the Igbo man big title and let him be a bit above his people, and all forms of rally dissipates. We are back to the past bro. Smh. I think the Yoruba race should forever be grateful to the warriors of Ibadan who stopped them at Osogbo in the 1800s, if not? hehehe, we for don hear am. 4 Likes |

MrPresident1: Lol, I like the Somali comparison - supremely fearless, though not as skilled as the Somalis, and were never able to build a large empire like the Ajuran Sultanate. I was going to throw Eriteans there - but Eritreans are also very skilled fighters. However, in the Nigerian context - being fearless will always get you to ya destination. I think the reason why the South doesn't have a rallying point is cos the second larger group never really had rallying point, till the arrival of the Brits. And once that happened, they bursted out aggressively in a domineering nature, and have continued to thrive based on that. Had it been that the Edos for example were the 2nd larger group, it would have been easier to find a common ground. As for the Yorubas, we're very naive and docile. And in as much as pluralism is one of our strongest points, it's also our weakest - the gift and the curse. Hopefully, one day, we'll be able to have another leader who would have the wit and presence, to rally everyone around a well-defined common cause on where we stand, what we want, and what we should do. Anyway, I do clown Ibadan folks a lot with banter...but I shall forever be grateful to the Ibadan warriors of yore. Oyo collapsed from within and there was internecine war - yet these warriors were still able to defend their homelands from marauders and a bunch of Judas Iscariots. I doff my hat to them - peace to Ibadan warriors. 3 Likes |

@Shymm3x and MrPresident1.... You guys have really displayed an unrivalled capacity for intelligent discourse that I've not seen on this forum in a long while. I've learnt quite some going through your posts.... Unbiased and well-articulated points. It's quite unfortunate that a lot of people got carried away in the frenzy and euphoric chants of change without actually taking an introspective look at the bigger picture as regards Southerners and the political power-play in Nigeria. 4 Likes 1 Share |

On a purely mathematical or numbers basis the Fulani will always dominate Nigeria. The colonialists didn't help by carving a Nigeria where half of the country geographically is Northern. Only unity of different groups can challenge the Hausa/Fulanis politically

hansad: Not just Awo, but Ayida and all the civil service and foreign service crew still cringing from the cold blooded murders of January 1966. Awo with the benefit of hindsight was relatively naive and a bit blinded by his unapologetic tribal politics. The Igbos were more than willing to have a working relationship with the Yorubas...as most of the Igbo nationalist leaders had Yoruba leanings, spoke Yoruba or lived and schooled in then Western Region. I think the Yoruba leaders generally did not like the domineering and pushy attitudes of the Igbos. The Igbos undoing was their lack of political and diplomatic experience...plus not factoring in London's response to the deaths of Ahmadu Bello, Tafawa Balewa and the rest. If Awo had chosen the path of secession, there was nothing stopping the Westerners from forcing the remaining Northern soldiers out of their region. By the time of the Aburi meetings, majority of soldiers in the divisions had been relocated to their various regions. It was an opportunity passed on. The then Western region would have been had a chance of being a model of an organized African country. Gowon was used, Awo was used both by the British and the Fulanis and they never realized it. They were rather tolerated by the oligarchs. As I have commented earlier, the Yorubas played a game of convenience...it was what it was. But the real masterminds were not even Fulanis or Yorubas...the stakeholders were the old colonialists in London. Nigeria was likely their checkmate to any oil production instability in the Arabian gulf and elsewhere they had planted puppet rulers. Even the Soviets and France had to back down on Biafran support when they realized what the game was all about. The British had decided that only the Hausa/Fulani sufficiently had the political, cultural and military experience to secure their investments in their former colony. The Igbos proved too smart and headstrong to play "civilized" politics with. The Yorubas typically thrived in chaos and educated tribalism...not enough to handle international politics. The other minorities were just not visible enough. The only anti-dote to the Fulani (not Hausa/Fulani as some suppose) hegemony while Nigerian remains a nation is the Orkar formula. Or a complete dismantling of Ironsi's unitary style of govt and a return to the former regions. Unfortunately the strategic positioning of allies across all ethnic groups by the Fulani would have to be broken first. My not necessarily correct opinion. 2 Likes |

MrPresident1: @bolded I would say political masters of Nigeria. If you had said the British effectively handed over the military and numerical strength at the center to them...I'd agree. The real secret of the Fulanis is their adoption of anything Hausa. The Hausa language, Hausa lifestyle, Hausa kingdoms and states. Infact few people in the South have no clue as to who the Hausas really are. For some funny reason, the Hausas in Kano,Kaduna, Zamfara and the rest of the old cities seem to find Fulani rulership cool...can't figure it out. If Kano were to be Igbo,I bet the typical Igbo man won't find it funny that their royal family is not even Igbo to being with! Even the Yorubas in Ilorin still have their unspoken resistance to Fulani hegemony. They whole Islamic emirate thingy is seen by the Hausas as divine and a part of their heritage. I think its the day the REAL HAUSA peoples stand up to reclaim their ancient thrones and heritage, that we'll see the Fulanis for what they really are. A hard, militaristic wandering nomads who have perfected the art of usurpation and conquest. But you have to give them that respect...its no small feat to usurp Gwandu, Kano,Kaduna, Adamawa and all the old emirates. I really admire their political astuteness. As for the Igbos and Yorubas...they are still learners. Shortsighted thinking, lack of long term political strategy, tribalistic emotions and lack of exposure to "advanced" politics remains their greatest challenge. 3 Likes |

For the first time, we can all of us (SE and SS) see clearly what the game has been about. So please leave Igbo out of this mess. Our next bus stop is BIAFRA. 6 Likes |

And @PabloAfricanus NOBODY is Igbo political master. We are individually masters of our own fates. As for the Fulani, "monkey dey clever be say tree dey". In Nigeria, the Yoruba have consistently played the role of the tree upon which the Fulani demonstrate their cleverness to the chagrin of other groups in Nigeria. The last election proved that point fully. 8 Likes |

PabloAfricanus: The British formulated the political equation for Nigeria. You re right on that point and once the northerners understood the equation, they capitalized on it. They are always united most of the time especially when political decisions are to be made. Just imagine, a combination of north plus SS/SE against SW or north plus SW against SS/SE will produce a wide margin. On the other hand, a combination of SW plus SS/SE against the north will produce a small margin if any. It's just the way the equation was formulated but unfortunately, many of us don't really understand this and those who do, seek their self preservation. The British really gave the typical northerner good orientation. I have always noticed that the average northerner who hawks pineapple, rides Okada, sells sweets and biscuits, or even sells water in 25 litre jerry cans have a pocket radio tuned to BBC, VOA and other world class stations. They have been oriented to appreciate world class information and it is being delivered to them in their mothertongue giving them a sense of self worth and superiority. When will BBC transmit in Yoruba or Igbo language? When will the typical Emeka/Nkechi and Tunde/Bola be more interested in good information instead of lewd music and half naked dancers? |
