This is a case of broad day light robbery
As is a well known fact, Imo State University doesn't have official school hostels; So everyone stays off campus.
I stay in a lodge around aladimma axis (Imsu's backgate)
Since I moved into this place, there has been a fee that's being paid annually. A fee of 1000 (per head). The fee is being collected by one Aladimma student's alliance
Now, let's do a little math.
See, the funny thing is that aladimma is made up of more than 50 hostels with occupants within the range of 300 to 400(some hostels hold up to 900 students). So, roughly speaking, aladimma has close to or more than 10000 students.
All these students are expected to pay 1000 to an organization that lacks transparency of any sort. An organization headed by just one person( chosen by a sham election annually). An organization that has cultists as it's "task force".
Two things raised my eye brows:
1. the manner at which this "fee" is collected and 2. where the funds go to. (Read on, you'll soon find out)
Manner of collection a) The special "task force" pastes a hand written notice on each hostel's gate notifying the occupants of their will to collect their fee( in the same manner armed robbers paste hand written notes informing a neighborhood of their impending, inevitable doom).
b) two to three days later; as early as 6:00am( sometimes, 5:00am) the hostels are flooded with touts. Slamming people's doors, threatening to break them down, basically, just tossing threats about; in a bid to get the occupant to open the door.
c) if by chance, you have enough balls of steel and don't open, your room is marked for further harassment.
d) if you do open. They request for a proof of payment. When this isn't available at the time of asking, they FORCE their way into your room and stroll away with whatever they feel like; telling you to come and "redeem" it when you're willing to pay.
It doesn't matter if you're male or female, the treatment is the same.
Where the funds go to
Peripherally, I had always wondered where these funds go to. Till I had a chat with a few of my friends over this issue.
They opened my eyes to the past and present presidents of this sham organization.
They've all bought cars! (I don't mean kabu kabu second hand vehicles). I mean TEAR RUBBER cars!
Apparently, these funds are channelled into one _asshole's pocket, who then pays his boys( I'm sure, quite handsomely).
This has got to stop! Please who do I report to? Imo State Uni has got no Student Union Government( Rochas scrapped it last year)
Help! This is broad day light robbery!

I would have asked you to go to the school security but I don't trust them too well so my best advice is to go to state police head quarters at government house and complain bcs the police are aware of such Alliance. |

Jesus is Lord.. 10,000 students by N1,000 = N10,000,000. Imo state parents of the students are scammed like this by these scammers and landlords many times more. Because the poor little city of Owerri is over populated with students, that's why the students can be so easily scammed. The present state governor in his self-centred drive for his private university in his hometown leaves the false impression that landlords - and those scammers - are stronger than a state government when it comes to a question of where a state government can comfortably locate its university it funds. The governor thus allow the situation where IMSU students continue in a make - shift campus, in a congested city unique with harbouring five universities and polytechnics in the state, while there are other virgin areas in the state where one ot two of the institutions can be calmly located. |

Before you report or do any thing about this issue; Make sure the school authorities are aware of it and are ready to do something about it. Secondly, let security agencies and authorities be aware and are ready to do something about it too, otherwise when the students stop to pay those guys this alleged 1000 naira, they will definitely turn back to be a huge threat and danger to students living in that area. So being just enthusiastic in reporting issues like this, is not the answer.Rather it's the ability to make necessary arrangements to make sure it didn't back-fire on the students. i rest my case. |

My man, I schooled in IMSU and I know a lot of rubbish like dis (and some even worse than this) happen in most areas of Owerri where there are lots of hostels. I used to live in Bishop court (u should know it, its not too far from IMSU gate). I lived there when it was flooded with cultist and all sorts of miscreants. Saying I never had peace while I lived in there would be an understatement. It was hell. From one problem to the other. If it not robbery today, it would be harassment or something worse. It was bad to the extent, okada riders (bike men) feared taking people to the area once its past 6pm.
I had no option but to pack and go live somewhere else. Luckily for me I got a house in Orji; a family house. That marked the beginning of peace for me during my stay in IMSU. The whole system is corrupt and no one cares. The SUG in IMSU was just a revenue collection agency, nothing more. No project done with the money or accountability of any sort. No wonder, Okorocha scrapped it.
There is no one or place you can take the matter, to get this useless act stopped cos the whole system is bleeped up "My advice for you, so go look for a family house, precisely far from school and if possible there should be no hostel close to where you live. Just complete you studies and get out of that bleeped up school". |

They came to rob again you can't eat your cake and have it back. You guyz sacrificed students unionism (aluta spirit) coz of yeye unqualitative free education. You guys have to live with or fight for the restoration of students unionism. Let me take you back to history. Before the great Knoble SUG regime of 2007 8th republic, Clef was the tin-god of Bishop's court. Security levies are charged and enforced by his agents. Worse still, he worked hand in hand with the police and even attended hostel landlords and police security meeting at the state police headquarters. Now Countdown to the inception of Knoble's regime, this hydra-headed problem was tackled head on through a petition to the I.G of police who ordered the commissioner of police in Imo state to address the issue in partnership with the SUG. Then series of closed door meetings were held between SUG and police. Thereafter, a court injunction was obtained to dissolve the security committee of Bishop's court headed by Clef and to evict him from bishop's court on the grounds that he was rusticated from school and as such was no longer a student. SUG with the police kicked him out of Bishop's court after 7 years of impunity. It was easy because division was created first within his camp (cultist). The SUG promised his second automatic installment as the head if he garners majority support of their men. A picture of the millions Clef has made overtime was painted and it stuck to his brains. After the overthrow, a fresh election was conducted and neutral guy was elected after the SUG influenced the disqualification of Clef's second by the Police based on cult activities. Detective Steve, feared by all, was always there with his men when the Union called. I think you guys have Detective John now or someone else. Police headquarters always assigns a team of detectives for imsu. Contact them, they can be of help. However the lasting solution like i said before lies with the UNION 1 Like 1 Share |
