.

In life, one has to be lucky too. During some people's presidency, no major sport's trophies are won, while during some, it's trophies galore once we manage to qualify for tournament.

IBB was lucky then. Even Abacha. AFCON was won after almost 20 years during GEJ's time.

GMB's time is proving unlucky for football already.

NFF has been bad since 2840 BC, didn't start during GEJ's time.

Did they really think that they stood any chance at all?
Living in a fools paradise. If you can't kill a cat what makes you think you can kill a lion.
We need better coaches for all our national teams. When teams are evenly matched as per skill and ability it is tactical know how that wins the day and our coaches have zero intelligence.
Ask them to explain their tactics and next thiing you will here is "my boys played to instruction" or " God did it for us".
How do you win a match? You have study your opponent check out his strength and most importantly his weaknesses even during the match you must be very flexible and decisive.
If a player is overwhelmed by the opposition then you take action either by telling the player what to do or making an outright change.
Our coaches are fond of being personal when selecting their team. Benching the best players they as against the players that they like and it backfires.
Case in point: Ihenacho of the U20. He could have made the difference against Germany but he was left on the bench and we lost.
Basically we need foreign coaches. It's the only way forward. Our coaches are not up to scratch and if we keep deluding ourselves then we will have ourselves to blame when countries like Cape Verde will beat us in our own backyard.

Once in a while Nigeria should give the youngsters a try. Just use the U20 team that did so well in Canada last time instead of fooling self with hackneyed concepts such as teams "mixing young enthusiastic players with older wiser heads" and such bores. Just use the same young team that played well at some earlier tournament and get rid of the older players.

Stop mixing and matching, it aint working!

Oh, and another thing, English football kills Nigerian players. Nigerian players are never the same after the have played football in England.

The only benefit from GEJ administration has been taken away... Winning of tournaments... Nigerians get ready for ass whopping ...this a clear indication that Nigeria will no longer be lucky at tournaments... Jonathan was indeed a lucky man.

....it's not fair to just dispose players because they didn't do well... But sha for us to win, Nigeria need players that are hungry for titles and wants to make name, else noting will work...I'd say the selection was faulty.

Modern football HAS left Nigeria behind.

Where is the talent even going to be developed from. Which football clubs, which academies, which turf will they play on? etc etc etc.

I'm with you on this one.

I used to be in support of giving the indigenous coaches a chance to do their jobs. It is still the best option, but only when there is a significant level of tactical and technical intelligence.

The current crop of coaches we have, have consistently failed in that regard.

Our girls had what it takes to have qualified from this group in terms of skills. I saw it in the match against Sweden and it was also on parade against Australia. It even showed up against USA. But while physical and raw skills got them a result against Sweden, it was the Coach's tactical and technical ineptitude that cost us those two matches.

USA did not walk Nigeria over. Infact the girls held them on. But the girls failed miserably in their cohesion, shape, transition and execution. They were just scattered across the field with no direction. That was the fault of the coach.

I'm beginning to also think that we should try female coaches fro the ladies if we can find. I have a haunch that the many of the girls were probably close to or in that time of the month.

I agree with your last paragraph. Our girls were generally slower than their opponents in all 3 matches. It could also be due to the fact that Okon was holding 2 training sessions per day on a TARF pitch! That was just ridiculous.

I think Ann Chiejine, the coach of COD Ladies, will be a good fit. She's taken some match analysis classes abroad too.
