I was reading about the initial amount agreed by Nigeria and a chinese firm to biuld the fast rail network in the southern states. I can't help but shudder. It was bigger than what Chiina paid to buy the initial bullet train technology from Germany! Now we are paying 20 billion dollars for a paltry 5000 mwts! Who signs these contracts? Who negotiates them? Some graduates of some almajiri model schools 9 Likes 1 Share |

It's been a long time coming though, Nigeria is too big a country to still be stuck with thermal and hydro as our only source of energy where some people go still they hold the whole Nation for ransom at will. As per maintainance/safety I'm sure the people involved will recieve proper and required training. Teempakguy: Nuclear power is a bad idea. We can come up with better thingsYeah right, better things like what? U've got a better idea? More billions should be pumped into the existing useless power source? |

The price tag for the second Niger bridge is almost the same price for Chinas across the ocean - longest bridge in the whole world. .. we really know how to make headlines the wrong way. . 1 Like 1 Share |

gbl01: I apologise if I was insultive. But you need to know that Ajaokuta is a special case of cold war power play, so its problems are complicated. You probably don't know that the US advised us against it after Late JFK initially promised Nigeria a steel plant. Rather, we were advised to import higher grade ores from Brazil rather than processing lower grade ores we have at uneconomical costs. But Russia gave us alternative, that alternative is what we are battling with today. Then I'm not aware of the contract model for Ajaokuta, but this nuclear one is expressly indicated as BOOT. So unless you are sure Ajaokuta was BOOT too, then I see no basis of comparison at all sir. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

owobokiri:Most of the people involved in this are some of your brothers from wherever you crawled out from. The money waisted on the mediocre thermal source for man than 15year now is close to $35b yet we are still struggling to get up to 4Kmw, it went below 1K in late may...so yes if $20b will give us a stable, dependable 5000mw without anybody coming out tomorrow to plunged the whole country into darkness, so be it. Besides, it's going to be co-financed, anybody wey no like this one can go jump inside Lagoon. 1 Like |

homerac7: It's cool to debate with u. The US and UK advised Nigeria against setting a steel company that our ores were too dirty. They advise Nigeria to import ores instead, that's when they promised us a steel company. Apparently the UK has the biggest steel company. The Russians told us we can and they built a wonderful company employing over 150k people and booming heavily until Nigeria booted the Russians out. Note that the boom span was about 2decades The US always have a way of pushing our government to cancel contracts with Russia and China. Yes it was BOOT model and the problem has always been with the 'T' so when 'T' happens, Nigeria messes up. Almost all signed contracts are using the BOOT model so pls stop sounding as if its the game changer, it has always been. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

It's better we cue into other sources of power generations and leave out the nuclear power plants. the three gorges dam produces more than all put together nuclear plants in uk. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Top 10 Nuclear Disasters
Top 10 Nuclear Disasters
The long term effects of Nuclear disasters can
often spread over thousands of years. It is
estimated that Chernobyl wont be inhabited for
at least another 20,000 years.
Despite the threat of Nuclear disasters,
believe it or not, Nuclear Power Plants are
prominent and provide approximately 5.7% of
the world’s energy and 13% of the world’s
electricity.
With 437 Nuclear Power Plants worldwide,
there are bound to be incidents every now and
again. Small incidents occur and can be
rectified, but when there are large incidents,
the impact can often be catastrophic.
Each Nuclear disaster has been given a level on
the International Nuclear Event Scale (INES).
Click on the header of each nuclear disaster for
a detailed look at each event.

MINISTER2000: No river in West Africa can give you such hydro capacity sir! Closest you can get is the Grand Inga dam project on the Congo in Congo DR. You can chose to build 100,000MW nuclear power plant is anywhere in Nigeria (in you can raise the fund required), but you can't build any MW above what the river sources around you can provide for hydro power. Even having the water flow does not mean the topology will give you favourable location. So China building 3 Gorges dam on the Yanges does not mean Nigeria, or West Africa has a "Yanges" to build her own. 2 Likes |

Anyways, am not bothered sha because I know the money will be siphoned and the project won't see the light of the day. ***breaths in, breaths out*** **sighs** 2 Likes 1 Share |

Nuclear power plant is a very effective and reliable source of power generation, however there is a serious side effect to human and property if not properly handle, I don't thing Nigeria is capable of successfully operating this kind of plant to it optimum safely principles, I feel if we want to go into this, let it not be base on BOT for now, let the plant be own by Russia film and the Government will ensure employment of Nigerian Engineers for proper training before we should be talking about BOT in nuclear power plant. What factors determine the location of nuclear power plant? why can it be located at Abuja, why should they bring it close to my villa @ Itu, I hope safety will be seriously considered when executing this project. 3 Likes 1 Share |
