Though I doubt that the bill will be passed, it's good to see Nigerians protest for a worthy cause rather than their stomachs. It shows that all hope is not lost. I'm encouraged. 3 Likes |

Does that include corruption of fixing bogus, unrealistic salaries & allowances for themselves COMPARED to the N18,000 minimum wage for workers of the SAME government www.nairaland.com/attachments/2528508_political20catoon_jpeg388939f5abe0d6aa488640afd36eb164 |

This is good. Even if they are not ready to make such laws, They will now know that people are aware and detest corruption. So they will thread carefully now. We need more group to march to that NASS and sound this alarm of death penalty to them. Scare them, show them you have power to take them out if they steal one naira. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

kheart: Recall of an erring legislator is possible in theory but almost impossible in practice. The constitution provides for recall, true, but it would require a majority of registered voters in the constituency of the erring lawmaker. Now you have to ask yourself how easy it would be to retrieve the voter's register from INEC, how to mobilise the entire constituency to come out and sign and deliver the notice of recall. The sheer logistical challenge makes it virtually impossible. So really we have to ensure that we vote in the right people going forward and exercise vigilance to ensure they perform their constitutionally assigned duties. |

[quote author=handsomeclouds post=34880269] Some protesters stormed the National Assembly on Wednesday and demanded a legislation that would prescribed death penalty as punishment for corruption in the country. Speaking under a group, Voice of the Voiceless, they said there was no way Nigeria would made progress if corruption in public office was not brought under control. They wrote separate letters to the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara. In the letter to the House, which was signed by the National Coordinator of the group, Mr. Oliver Ezeala, the protesters wrote, “Corruption, as we are all aware of, has eaten so deep into the fabric of this great nation and we are strongly advocating the death penalty to anybody who is found guilty of corrupt practices, no matter how highly-placed such an individual is in the society. “Nigeria has tried every other measure of deterrent but to no avail. “We want this great nation to toe the path of countries such as Indonesia, Singapore, China and other world powers who have achieved so much developmental strides as a result of their zero tolerance for corruption.” However, they said they were confident that with President Muhammadu Buhari in power, the fight against corruption would be fast-tracked. “We believe that he will fight this our common hydra-headed enemy to a complete standstill,” the letter added. Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr. Yusuf Lasun, on Wednesday deplored the high rate of unemployment in the country. Lasun observed that to make matters worse, there were many fraudsters who engaged in employment racketeering by collecting money from youths for non-existing jobs. Lasun spoke in Abuja when some Osun State indigenes paid him a visit at the National Assembly. However, he promised that the current House would partner the executive arm of government to address the situation. “Since the (federal) capital was moved out of Lagos, it is very difficult to get employment for our people. “It is horrible to hear that people collect money from young graduates to get employed,” he told the visitors. The Osun Indigenes, made up mainly of National Assembly employees, were led by the President of Association of Osun State Indigenes, Mr. Oluremi Ajibade http://www.punchng.com/news/protesters-storm-nassembly-demand-death-penalty-for-corruption/ Cc: Lalasticlala Cc: Ishilove[/quote I can swear that no body will be convicted a case may last for 100 years or rather post mortem convictions after the person has died 15 years ago after eating the money |

Cown!! during election where were they? Why didn't they make it as one of their demands to elect officials.Just shouting change!! Change we have gotten but don't ask for too much after you have given the dog the bone. It just won't happen not now , not tomorrow not in 2019. Call for a more realistic punishment. Corruption is not stealing right, I thought they were both the same? Cause I believe the law already has a punishment for stealing. Guess GEJ was right. |

Yes. Someone steal goat and he is sentence to 5years imprisonment whereas another man steal in billions and nothing is done to him. Instead he walks freely and oppress the masses with the money he stole that is meant for their betterment. We ask for nothing less than capital punishment for corruption. Lest learn from japan, china etc 1 Like |
