NAF has only got 3 refurbished and operational C-130's - proven beyond a doubt

Citation that the G222's are operational

Citation that virtually all 18 000 hours were for VIP transports - we budgeted for 20 000, meaning that your allegation that the VIP fleet used up all the flight hours is obviously wrong

Citation for NAF flight hours.

SAAF has combat experience, SANDF is the SADF and the SADF is the UDF.

You are making lots of statements, but I am not seeing any evidence to corroborate it.

I guess this is just another classic post from Henery-Because I Say So -120 grin grin

Reminder: Nigeria’s military has been in decline for the past 16 years, says J. Peter Pham, director of the Africa Center at the Washington D.C.

South-Africa has only 3 operational C-130's. This has been proven multiple times, hence your government's need to always charter aircrafts.

NAF has 5 in active service, including 6 G-222 and 2 Boeing 737.

13 transport planes as against South-Africa's 3. or do I need to add the charter companies Pretoria is so fond of?

3 C-130's and charter companies.

This is not the SANDF.

Who the hell is peter ham?

We are talking about what you defence minister has to say, the fat woman described the SANDF as deficient in skill, ethos and competence required of a military. She also said unambiguously that the SANDF is in a critical state of decline saddled with a bunch of equipment it cannot man, maintain or finance.

ORLY?

"The NAF has limited combat experience, its only engagements being against poorly armed rebels"

In reality, the SAAF has engaged enemy fighter jets and advanced enemy SAM systems - and you have not.

SAAF got defeated in it's air war experience, and your pilots stopped flying against Cuban MiG-23, SAAF has an experience of total defeat cheesy

Old glory = Expired glory .... those old SAAF white men pilots have retired or no longer fly combat. Today, you have rookies who have NEVER used Gripen and Hawk jets to kill a single cockroach cheesy

If it is a problem in your airforce

Then it will affect everything

The fact that your F-7's crash suggests it to be true

Now, prove you have more than 3 pilots

No single citation in your claims....sign of defeat...

It's so easy to defeat a South African, even Sudan rides on your head, next to ride you will be Rwanda cheesy

Pretoria - More than 800 terrified South African soldiers in Sudan feared the worst when their camp was surrounded by Sudanese troops.

"In order to save lives, we would have to have surrendered if they stormed us." a South African soldier told Netwerk24.

It is believed that Al-Bashir was possibly allowed to leave South Africa amid fears of violence against the South African peacekeepers.

But a soldier said: "We were so scared - we were surrounded by soldiers. "

A friend of a soldier at the base said that they were surrounded by about 500 heavily-armed Sudanese soldiers in Hilux bakkies at about 10:00 on Monday. Al-Bashir's jet took off from Waterkloof air force base at about midday on Monday.

While the court bid to have him arrested continued in Pretoria, the South African soldiers were surrounded. They were placed at Level 2 readiness, which means they had to be battle ready and fully armed.

This is the worst stupidd post Nairaland ever had in its history. A peace keeper is not a combat soldier.

As a peace keeper you will always have to be restricted to a limited firepower. With a limited firepower, not even Rambo or Bruce Lee can come out alive. The heavily armed local government sponsored troops in thousands would have defeated the world Superpower, the US to the level of giving in.

Well with Seleka, we couldn't throw in the towel because rebels do not have mercy. We have seen it with Nigerian troops at home where BH could not offer them any mercy and instead what was left was to take to their heels to another country. Troops which today have been sacked because of their cowardice.

UN mandate in Sudan allows peace enforcement, and UN peace-keeping law allows self-defense by UN peace keepers if attacked.

SANDF is allowed to fight combat in Sudan by United Nations enforcement and self-defence regulations.

That is why the report says the South African troops immediately distributed ammunition for all soldiers in case they need to fight, but they preferred a surrender actually.

Nigerian army fought in Sudan when attacked, we died and bled, we did NOT surrender !

Nigerian army was out-numbered in a surprise night attack, but we used platoon size of soldiers to gallantly fight in self defense and won the battle with only rifles and MG against Sudanese anti-aircraft guns and battalion size fighters.

South African army decided to surrender without firing one shot tongue grin cheesy shocked

THE QUESTION IS DID SUDANESE TROOPS FIRED A SHOT? NOPE.

South Africa does not issue or command UN for peace enforcements. UN decides and South Africa follow the commands.
I cannot believe that a military researcher can have such a limited knowledge into how UN conduct its operation. How could you stoop to that low. You have downgraded yourself chief.

The only most cowardice military in Africa is that which left its country of birth, its pride and soil under intense offensive by terrorists and run away from the enemy into another man's territory, literally a foreign country to seek refuge. All of that has been depicted by Nigerian Army.

South Africa's firepower reinforcements in Sudan is restricted by Sudan. SANDF tried times without numbers to reinforce their troops in Sudan with more powerful weapons including armoured vehicles and gunships, but Sudan government opposed it.

End of story.

1. Citation needed for your claims.

2. Our mission in Sudan is not a combat mission, we are not armed or ready to face a regular army with heavy weapons:

Defence analysts say SANDF troops are deliberately left poorly armed and equipped by the Sudanese government - which refuses to allow them to have armoured vehicles fitted with heavy weapons - and have been ambushed, kidnapped and killed.

Their bases are poorly constructed with only that at Kutum having a perimeter wall and reinforced-concrete firing positions.

The Mellit and el-Malha bases have only razor wire perimeter fences.

The nearby Sudanese army base, where hundreds of soldiers are stationed, houses T54 tanks, armoured personnel carriers, heavy machine-guns, mortars and rocket propelled grenades.

Michael Pearce, who designed 32 bases for the then AU mission in Sudan, including the South African bases, said they had not been designed as defensive bases.

Sudanese army confirms story :

"The army said the "increased military traffic" in Darfur was part of the Sudanese government's preparations for the Ramadan religious celebrations.

Head of joint operations, Lieutenant General Derrick Mgwebi, said the situation had "normalised" and the mobilisation of Sudanese soldiers near the South African base in Khartoum was not aimed at the base."

http://m.news24.com/news24/SouthAfrica/News/SA-troops-in-Sudan-feared-the-worst-20150617

The army of Sudan said they were doing maneuver not aimed at attacking the South African army, but the SANDF troops were already afraid of men in Toyoto Hilux and the 800 SANDF troops were ready to surrender without a fight tongue shocked grin cheesy

Nobody on Nairaland says SANDF men were held hostage or surrounded, but the 500 Sudanese troops drove Toyota near the base in a mission for Ramadan ops, then the cowards of South Africa decided to tremble, quake, shake, share ammunition, and surrender without a fight !

SANDF peacekeepers have standard issues: R4 rifles, heavy machine guns, MRAPS, and likely AGL, MGL, mortars, these are basic infantry weapons of SANDF standard orbat.

Article probably already posted here...just a recap

"SAAF probably looking at C-130 or KC-390 for medium airlift

While not cast in stone, it appears the airborne arm of the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) has its eyes on two possible types to replace its ageing C-130BZ fleet.

In the Estimates of National Expenditure (ENE) for the 2015/16 financial year National Treasury indicates "the department (of defence) will be acquiring equipment and developing systems to maintain a modern, balanced and technologically advanced force. It has budgeted for medium and light transport aircraft, a new generation mobile communication capability and precision guided air force ammunition for air defence. These acquisitions are reflected in spending in the Air Defence programme in 2016/17 and 2017/18".

- I don't know why I'm visualizing 3 × KC-390, 2 x C-130J and 2 x C-27J.
-new generation mobile comms capability? Who knows. Maybe the radio upgrade by Reutech Radar.
-precision guided munition for air defence....A Darter, maybe something else as well.

SANDF peacekeepers have standard issues: R4 rifles, heavy machine guns, MRAPS, and likely AGL, MGL, mortars, these are basic infantry weapons of SANDF standard orbat.

Chicken Republic Of South Africa !

SANDF always ready to hide or surrender in trouble

1. Reports of soldiers being nervous are obviously falsified
2. Hightened military alertness of AU and SANDF troops was likely due to Ramadan
3. read my citations: SANDF troops in Sudan are lightly armed with only personal weapons and light machine guns and their bases are designed in such a way that they cannot be effectivly defended

Again, you posted a story that was shot down 3 days ago!!

Kc-390 a sh1t
Untested, high maintenance (turbine v turbo prop) and (if my memory is correct) offers no real advantage over the C-130J

I recon that the medium lift order will be at least enough to replace the current C-130 fleet - so 9 at a minimum

Excuses ! Excuses !

If you were pursuing to achieve a career in military, I would have advised you to rather look for something else. My eleven year old son is as well laughing off every post you have posted so far. Man, really I think you have never past puberty development stage. You just reason and think like a child and that is not what we are going to partake in. Enjoy your kindergarten games of your fantasy alone. These days I have never heard anything factual from what you have been writing about. All this stories have not yet been confirmed and they are denied by relevant structures within the military. Please, discuss something factual not a hearsay or fantasies.

South African Army Disgraced Many Times In Action :

(New Confession By @Patches )

+ South African soldiers guarding a satellite police station were reportedly overwhelmed and robbed of their weapons and radios in 2006

+ South African troops escorting an AU convoy carrying diesel fuel were ambushed and the tankers stolen in 2006

+ Four South African soldiers were kidnapped in an ambush in April 2011

+ Two SANDF soldiers were critically injured outside Kutum while guarding a well in October 2014

+ Thirty SANDF soldiers were ambushed and robbed of rifles, bullet-proof vests and three vehicles in February 2014

http://www.timeslive.co.za/thetimes/2015/06/18/Sitting-ducks-in-Sudan

The above source was provided by @Patches yesterday as he tried in vain to find an excuse for the trembling and shaking of 800 SANDF troops when they saw 500 Sudanese troops driving around in ordinary Toyota pick ups.

Bwahahaaha grin grin grin

So the for the past 8 years SANDF troops have been daily humiliated in Sudan by gangs of hoodlums, robbed of weapons, kidnapped during patrol duties, escort duties, ambushed and robbed, dispossessed of fuel, valuable personal items, military equipment, kicked around in broad daylight.

So much for the 'famous' training and training and training of SANDF, super training of super cowards .

Yet we see South Africans laughing at Nigerian army fighting Boko Haram while their own army is lucky to be in a war zone where world media has not been focusing attention, the SANDF was getting beaten up like women by thieves and robbers ! Yeeeeeeeeeeh grin grin grin

My sides grin grin grin

In orbit, my sides, this is hilarious o !

Let one South African insult Nigerian army again and I will repeat this post plus the one of Burundi where SANDF had their armouries and bases looted by thieves who drove away MRAPs and mortar artillery, with grenade launchers, RPG, machine guns etc. !

LOL.....South African army will run away to Botswana if Boko Haram appears with just 500 men in Toyotas !

No wonder SANDF trembles in Sudan when the thin legged black Arabs drove Toyota outside their bases enroute a Ramadan patrol !

Why don't your Southie soldiers show courage like Col. Eben Barlow? We thought the whole SANDF is like Col. Eben grin grin grin

Chicken Republic of South Africa....shaking quaking army of born cowards tongue tongue tongue

UN and AU wouldnt dare launch a 'law-enforcement' military intervention in Sudan for fear of provoking the combine military might of the Arab league of nations.lol,AU does not even have a continental military force!
If SA had arrested Bashir....well,lets just say that your troops in sudan would have been massacred and hung on the streets of khartoum to dry,and there would have been nothing anybody could do about it,not even the UNSC.

Four Nigerian soldiers belonging to the United Nations-African Union peacekeeping mission in Darfur were killed in an ambush on Tuesday evening by unidentified attackers. Peacekeeping troops have been in Darfur since 2007. Some 16,000 troops, mostly from African nations, are currently based in the region; 78 have died. The soldiers killed on Tuesday were ambushed near a peacekeeping base in western Darfur. Eight soldiers were also injured. War broke out in Darfur in 2003, when rebel groups took up arms against the central government. According to the United Nations, 300,000 people have died because of the war. The Sudanese government says 10,000 have died. A peace agreement was signed between the government and one rebel group in 2011, but three other rebel groups have refused to sign.

Old glory = Expired glory .... those old SAAF white men pilots have retired or no longer fly combat. Today, you have rookies who have NEVER used Gripen and Hawk jets to kill a single cockroach cheesy

Nigerian soldiers serving in the United Nations African Union Hybrid Missions in Darfur, Sudan have threatened to go on rampage if they are not paid their allowances and airlifted back to Nigeria on or before July 3, 2012.

Radio France International Hausa Service report monitored last night in Abuja said the soldiers handed the Federal Government an eight-day ultimatum to meet their demands or they "create a scenario in Sudan which will deter the on-going peace process in Darfur."

Most Cowardly Army In Africa = SANDF .
.
The FIB in the DRC is the only UN peacekeeping allowed to after militias.

The SANDF troops in Sudan are under the UN and follow orders of the force commander in that country.
