treasuremabel:Astymin is very good, cos it does not contain iron. Folic acid and B complex is also very good. But nothing beats natural leafy vegetables and other natural foods. 1 Like 1 Share |

DrTee1: Dahjhi: I am not a obstetrician/gynecologist....but to answer your question. A woman who has Sickle Cell anemia, and who is pregnant should 1.Register for ANC immediately she knows she is pregnant (No waiting till four months to register...goes for all other pregnant women too!) 2.Should have regular blood counts done monthly to rule out anemia. 3.If anemic....must be admitted and investigated thoroughly...and then treated for anemia with blood transfusion. 4.Of course....good nutrition during pregnancy is paramount. 1 Like 1 Share |

@treasuremabel, Congratulations on being a successful warrior. May you continue to win the battles again sickle cell anaemia. 2008, I was in a church one sunday, when a lady gave testimony on her 52nd birthday. The special aspect of the testimony is that she is a sickle cell patient and against all odds & crisis she survived that long, (and still alive i believed) so I concur that with healthy lifestyle sickle cell anaemia need not be a death sentence of life of pain. I pray thee to tell a. How old are you b. Are you married c. Is your relationship ( if single) guided by your heart/love or by your head/genotype. The reason for the above questions is not to invade your privacy but encourage several others with the SS genes as well as to shed light on the societal influence/pressure experienced by sickle cell patients. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

I have 3 siblings with the disease aged 31, 25 and 16
it's been a challenging situation since childhood.
They have stayed without blood transfusion for years.

The experience is not sweet to describe. Cant reply say it all, the traumatic pains, the sleepless nights the numerous intra venous fluids on the hospital bed, the missed exams, the many injections from analgin to fortwin to diclofenac. Well thank God I'm a father now as well lost a brother to sickle cell when he was 26. 2 Likes 1 Share |
