@prodeege that's the only way and it worked for me in the past. Just take your cool and move in circle once the dog is free. I even did it alone while the other was tied to a pole through leash.

Another concept I learnt from my brothers... A dog dugs it teeth into another animal like that, just jab it hard in the ribs while holding tight to the collar, it might try to reflexly bite you though ...
But will immediately release it's teeth hold..

My biggest brother does this... Grabs the two of them by the collar....He always gets bitten... He doesn't mind the bite though...

Now let me explain it this way...

I sold a gsd pup to a client
On checking the dog after 4months I realised the dog is always on lock-up. Allday, allweek.

Talking to the owner, he says someone told him that's the only way to make his dog aggressive, and of course the person said he tried it with 3 of his dogs.

I tried to convince him that he's playing with a timed-bomb, just like you Apitch, he wouldn't learn.

A friend of his criticized my complains and said didn't I hear someone has tried it b4? Just like you did Apitch

2mnths ago, he called me to come pick the dog. The dog bit his only son on the arm, a large wound that left his son ever scared to go close to dogs, even puppies.

You people just underestimate dogs that can be cool now and crazy the next minute. Dogs have trauma, they have memory loss and all...why do u think some dogs attack their owners even after 4yrs?

....Now that's just how I advice people. Coldplay didn't complain as I was making every complain a joke...not taking it personal.
