Jonathan Left N 7trillion Deficit , Says Joda by Nobody: 1:06pm On Jun 21, 2015
Ahmed Joda, the grand old veteran bureaucrat who
chaired the transition committee set up by
President Muhammadu Buhari has spoken about
the various challenges his committee faced in
completing its assignment, principal of which was
that the Jonathan administration withheld vital
information about the state Nigeria.
Joda cited the former administration’s initial figure
that the budget deficit was N1.3 trillion only to
discover that a deficit of N7trillion has been piled
up. He also spoke about the regime’s report that
Nigeria has the capacity to generate 12,000
megawatts of electricity, without disclosing that
there was no gas to power the plants and that at
the time aof the handing over, the government was
generating just 1,300 megawatts.
In the interview published today, he also spoke
abut rampart corruption in all government
departments in the country, where values have
collapsed and everyone is doing what he likes.
“Nobody follows the rules anymore. You employ
people anyhow and pay them anyhow and I think
you in the media have a fair idea of what is going
on and are surprised how bad things are. I often
wondered, since the beginning of this exercise, if
the PDP and president Jonathan had won the
election what would have been the fate of Nigeria.
It would have been more difficult for them to face
the challenge because they had been telling people
that everything was good; the roads are good.
They were not talking about the absence of light in
the house, but they were talking about the capacity
to produce electricity is 12,000 megawatts out of
which only 5,000 could be released.
“But even out of this 5,000 at the time they were
doing the handing over notes only 1,300 megawatts
were being generated, but they were talking about
35,000 kilometres of distribution lines and so on,
but nobody told us the real problem – that there is
no gas, or there is no capacity to transmit the
electricity that could be generated; that even when
it is delivered at the point of distribution the
distribution system is so weak that it can’t take it.
I personally didn’t know that until I got into this
exercise. Now, if they came back, they couldn’t
wake up in the morning and say we can’t pay
salaries, we couldn’t do this or even pay
contractors and might even not be able to pay
pensions and gratuities or finance any of our
operations. We were told at the beginning of the
exercise that the government was in deficit of at
least N1.3 trillion and by the end people were
talking about N7 trillion; everything is in a state of
collapse.
“The civil service is bloated and the military and
police, if you are a Nigerian, you know what they
have been facing for a long time; everywhere is in a
mess and these things have to be fixed.”

When Jonathan is termed as clueless, it is complimentary because the other option is to term him wicked and evil for sitting on a crumbling national structure and behaving as if all is well.

Nigerians did the right thing to end cluelessness in 2015. Imagine the chaos that would have met us had PDP and Jonathan been allowed to continue....

By the way, Okonjo-Iweala is a scam. Soludo said it.

This Buhari administration will become unpopular after a while. The needful will include reducing the workforce of the civil service, and that will generate plenty negativity. Also, Buhari has to use the big stick on PDP's remnants in the civil sevice. So far, these remnants have shown themselves to be willing saboteurs.
In all, I trust Buhari to at least make an impact. The impact already felt is a good one.

Is it old age or something that is disturbing Pa Ahmed Joda? How can Nigeria's 2015 budgetary deficit be N7trn? How much is even our overall annual budget? Our 2015 budget is N4.5trn, revenue is expected at N3.2trn and deficit N1.3trn. So what is Joda saying? Is he talking of Budgetary deficit for real? Does Joda even know what Deficit is? This APC people are clowns!

Someone should tell Ahmed Joda that there is difference between Budget deficit and FG Debt.

The Total Debt of Nigeria as at May 11 is N12trn. This debt consists of all the debts of the FG and the 36 states and FCT. Joda should

You need to take reading comprehension lessons.

Joda, a very respectable administrator stated that the budget deficit of N7 Trillion has been piled up by GEJ. Nowhere did it mention this was all in 2015 as you claim.
Joda was referring to year on year deficit accumulation and we know GEJ was in power for over 5 years.

Which respected administrator? The man is 80+ and out of touch. The N1.3trn deficit that Jonathan government budgeted for is in line with 2015 budget and NOT 5year budget. You guys aren't talkin to dummies. As for the FG debt, Nigeria has never said our debt was N1.3trn. You're at best a political commentator, better put as beer parlour analyst. Bureaucracy is not your forte, neither is making intelligent inferences.
People like you are noisemakers who do not necessarily make sensible noises. The word deficit as used by Joda here makes sense to intelligent people, because the man cited many examples to press home his point. If you lack the basic understanding to wholistically capture the explanation, it is your own problem, and you are the clown in this instance.
