Vikkie14: It is not the responsibility of the Army to prosecute offenders in courts, it is the duty of the Police. AI just like ICC are racist organisations who will not seek prosecution of anyone from the West for crimes committed in Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam and of recent destruction of Libya and murder of Gaddafi and his family 1 Like |

Guyman02:The reason why the ICC cannot prosecute the likes of Bush, Condoleezza Rice, Dick Cheney etc is that the United States is not a signatory to the ICC charter.Hence, U.S. citizens cannot be prosecuted by the Court. Nevertheless, I believe Bush and his gang (including Obama) are culpable in the aforementioned war crimes you listed. |

It should be investigated but handled carefully to avoid impact on troops morale. We need to start learning to tackle our own indiscipline so that people from outside don't tell us. For those who said AI have not talked to BH on their own act, how silly can you be? BH is not an arm of the Nigerian government, BH does not have a social contract with the Nigerian citizen hence it is a waste of time to tell people whose law is violent, that they are violent. It is like asking someone to tell a criminal not to commit his crime in a bad way, he is already a criminal. BH should and will be dealt with as a criminal group to the full extent of the law. What AI is pointing out is actually very useful, let us not use the habit of defending our own to condone indiscipline that will cause us future problems just as we did in Odi. The investigation should be properly done to clear the name of the Nigerian Army and our hardworking, devoted servicemen and fish out the bad eggs. 1 Like |

Is it that people are so uneducated that they don't know what human rights abuse is? Is it not on this same forum that videos and pictures of the Nigerian military torturing civilians are posted, which even can be found on youtube. Is it not a common knowledge that the Nigerian military is dictatorial and oppresses it's civilian population on every chance they get. Has the phrase 'bloody civilians' and what it depicts been forgotten already? Seems like Amnesty International needs to provide 'basic' education to Nigerians before giving them redemption 3 Likes 1 Share |

barcanista: Yet clowns like you want military efforts in the NigerDelta investigated for their excesses? Why can't a law abiding citizen get justice when it concerns the military and its excesses? It's because of people like you who know no objectivity. I quoted you because I know you will give me an opportunity in the future to reply your post with your own words. 1 Like |

spikesC: It is even sadder that those who championed the celebration of the military's excesses in the North East for the last 3 years, were crying about the same military just last week because of military activities close to home. Now they have reversed their standing again today, and once again believe the military is right and any contrary argument is wrong and sympathetic to terrorism. Tribal flipfloppers! 1 Like |

Omooba77:Things like this will surely demoralise the Army but that is not to say the military shouldn't be professional. Just take a moment, sit back and imagine this... "Your younger brother comes into town to visit you from school, while he was trying to locate your house, he is apprehended by soldiers (for loitering), he is interrogated violently to release information he knows about terrorists (since they believe he's a BH spy), they torture him continuously and then he dies. Then again, your uncle who went to the soldiers torture chambers to beg for the release of his innocent nephew was also locked up, tortured to confess his involvement, and eventually, a bullet is put in his head. Both your close relatives are thrown into a shallow grave and that is the end." After imagining the fictional picture I just painted above, if you are human, then you will understand the reason why our armed forces need to be professional. We should learn to show some empathy and stop being absolutely disconnected or nonchalant to the plight of others. Our armed forces in Nigeria are known to be extremely brutal and they have a history of killing more innocent victims than criminals whenever they are sent to maintain peace in any community; Odi, Odioma and Zaki Biam are just little examples. I wouldn't even want to delve into the excesses of our policemen who kill people for N20. If investigations are concluded, any military personnel involved in the murder of innocent victims should face the music. 3 Likes 1 Share |

studded: Did you say a well trained military? Even the chief of army staff would laugh at your stupidity. Are you blind to the daily expose of military abuses of civilians all over Nigeria? Are you blind to all the videos out there of military abuses in the North East? Must law abiding citizens die at the hands of the same people employed to defend them? 1 Like |

Omooba77: Am always very amazed at our mentality in this our beloved country,or how on earth could someone equate Boko Haram with the Military. By virtue of their name and acts Boko Haram are outlaws and as such cannot be expected to follow any rules , nor ethics of engagement. They are terrorists because they terrorize the citizens innocent or not. But the Military were trained to contained National outlaws both within and outside the borders of our sovereign state. And because they were trained, they are expected to follow civilized and acceptable rules of engagement in dealings with the outlaws. It is in no doubt that the Boko Haram acts despicably against any moral norms or civility but they are not expected to act any less, for to do so will make them seem like common criminals which they are not. The Nigeria army on the other hand are expected to rise above board and display high sense of civility, decorum and professionalism. That is why they are called the Army, and not BOKO HARAM. The Nigeria army are not expected to react and treat other members of the society or Suspects as Terrorist until proven beyond reasonable doubt, even then there are National and International laid down rules to follow in combat and and outside the theaters of war. Otherwise the amy would be equating itself as the Terrorist they are supposed to combat .That Boko Haram acts despicably is no justification for the Nigerian Army to act likewise in the effort to Subdued and Conquer them. ( He said, “In Nigeria, as in other regions where terrorists have unleashed their evil acts without a scintilla of respect for morality, extreme measures are sometimes required to contain extremism. It is a well-known fact that Boko Haram respects no laws at all, including sacred religious laws that the group claims to cherish) This is wrong because it gives the officers the liberty to act with impunity fired by hatred of the loss of lives of their colleagues. You don't fight evil with evil. Boko Haramist are evil but using the same measure and tactics of Boko Haram to engaged them bespoke of the Nigerian Army being evil as well. There should be a place where to draw the lines between evil and good. In a sane and civilized society like ours the Military shouldn't be seen justifying extreme measures in the guise to fight Boko Haram because the fallout will be extreme and catastrophic with untold innocent casualty like is being witnessed in the Amnesty reports. (“We find it nonetheless very worrisome that Amnesty International has yet to comment on the horrendous, mindless and ruinous activities of Boko Haram. Indeed, the victims of Boko Haram’s despicable activities deserve justice and sympathy.”) This statement coming from the Military spokesman suggest an admission of guilty as charged by the Nigeria Army. How on earth would you expect Amnesty International to comment on Boko Haram, what effect would their comment or condemnation of of Boko Haram have on the Boko Haram evil acts and escapades. Boko Haram are sociopath, they are terrorist, they are despicable, undesirables, they are outlaws, this is a know fact to every Dick ,Tom and Jerry, even to Boko Haram themselves. Condemning them is like beating a dead horse.Or how on earth would you fill a basket with water. The Nigeria Military needs to do a clean sweep of their house and punish errant and sociopathic officers among them and rescued the Army from any ignoble acts being committed by their officers. The Nigeria army in the combat field needs to be orientated as to the International rules of engagement and the treatment of enemy combatants and Civilians in their fields of Operations. The world is no a global village where any country or state institutions can operate or sets its own rules in isolation of communities of Nations. Nigeria is a signatory to many International treaties and Laws and cannot act outside those laws. Painful as it is Boko Haram can kill and maimed at will but the Nigeria army are not permited and can cannot Kill at will even when their lives is at stake. That is the irony of life, that is the the truth and that's why they are permitted to carry guns and defend the Nations Integrity as agaisnt Boko Haram. Boko Haram cannot win and will not win. I have never seen, I have never read, I have never heard in history where Evil Triumph over good. Not in WORLD WAR 1, NOR WOLD WAR 11, NOT IN 9/11 OR AFGHANISTAN. It cannot be in Nigeria |
