It depends on what you are using it for. But I will vote whatsapp because of so many reasons.
(1)I does not require specific data subscription plan.
(2) Only does that have your number will contact you.
(3) Easy to use and chat on demand
(4) It's available in all devices

and many more reasons...

These are some of the reasons i prefer bbm to whatsapp
1.Whatsapp doesn't send doc ,pdf files, applications e.t.c
2..whatsapp doesn't retract messages but bbm does
3. whatsapp doesn't have private chat option but the latest bbm have it
4.Ability to accept friends with my permission is only visible on bbm
5. To be able to share with friends the music am listening to is a major feature on bbm but not whatsapp
6. To be able to share my pin instead of phone numbers as any Tom and Judith can send you messages without your permission. But whatsapp. had already received the messages before blocking the number
7. customize your pin to your name so that your friends can easily add you but whatsapp doesn't have that feature .for example type asuustrike2009 as invite and get response from bbm
8. BBM channel that allows you to advertise your product or get peeps to follow similar to Facebook.
least I forget Don Jazzy has his own stickers on bbm .

BBM is upgrading and they listening to reviews from subscribers

use whatsapp and you have pin at your signature. Do you know that bbm is gradually taking email away from the market? for example I can send a document to you without you going to the cafe or logining to read it. it's even fast and easy. other applications like Hike, Wechat, telegram e.tc does that except whatsapp.

@ 1 same with bbm except that it consumes less data and airtime. all the networks have whatsapp plan except glo so no big deal there
