Why don't you try reading the scriptures yourself, and stop being a judge, it shows you don't understand what these two are writing about-really you are making a dick of yourself. Maybe you should ask the Lord, and if you are like Uben who claims he is a born again Christian, then I'm sure you wouldn't find it difficult, to pray and ask our Lord to help you with some understanding in finding scriptures to back up your own disbelief, and if you are feeling up to it, maybe allow the Lord to show you the difference between your argument. We born again Christians learn of each other-but hey if you aren't a born again, we do understand. italo: |

brocab:Ive just stated that sola scriptura doesn't work. isn't that what you do but come up with contradictory doctrines to your protestant oga- Martin Luther? E.g.Lutherans carry out infant baptism. |

MuttleyLaff: Bro, nice one.I am really optimistic about this topic especially between me and you.I also think we are beginning to narrow it down. This will really help both of us in future discussion.I think where the bone of contention lies is the treatment of the types of baptism mentioned in the Bible.I briefly touched on baptism of John;the one commanded by Christ which convert did;the one of fire and the one concerning the suffering of Jesus Christ. The actual meaning of baptism is to immerse/covered/submerge/overwhelm in 'something'.When the bible speak of Moses baptism he was referring to the Israelite who were covered in the cloud and sea (a reference to the protection offered by God against the Egyptian enemy). It is quoted rightly that they were then baptized into unto Moses (Moses being the one God used to rescue and saved the Isrealites):1Co 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 1Co 10:2.And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;[/i].Here, the medium was the cloud, water and ever pillar of fire at times. The purpose was for their rescue and protection . John's baptism was for repentance for the remission of sins and the medium was water:Mark_1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. Christ was baptize/covered/overwhelm with suffering :Matt_20:22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able. Mat_20:23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father..Mar_10:39 And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:This also referred to as the 'cup of suffering' :Matt_26:39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. Mat_26:42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. Baptism of the Holy Ghost was also mentioned which was fulfilled in Act 2 when the Holy Ghost came upon the Apostle, specific purpose to guide them to speak what God wants us to know. You observed that each of these baptism was specific to a group of people as in the case of the Israelite (Moses baptism),Christ (baptism of suffering),the apostles(Baptism of the Holy host). But after Christ died resurrected, the gospel came into full effect upon which people ought have their faith and believe. Before he ascended,he instructed the apostle to preach and make disciples of all nation. This instruction was spelt out in matt 28:19;mark 16:15-16;Lk 22.And we read many people accepting Christ whenever preaching was done in the New Testament. That was why I linked water with the baptism instructed by Christ as evidenced by the eunuch who went into water.Even before now,Christ told Nicodemus of being being born of water and spirit, pointing to water baptism. When we are baptized in water,we are said to buried in with Christ :Rom_6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. .Col_2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.. Water baptism through faith,is liken to salvation of Noah and his household:1Pe 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 1Pe 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: Paul later wrote toward the end of his life and made mention of 'one' baptism that part of the gospel, the plan of God to save man: Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, I advocate hearing the gospel, believing and being moved by faith to accept baptism for the forgiveness of past sins and then work in newness of life. The blood of christ saves but we must accept it and act(work) that we may come in contact with the saving blood that brought grace. I love this power passage:John_19:34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water Cheers bro.Love 1 Like |

MuttleyLaff: While it is required for us to preach that all men are ordered to repent and be baptised as stated in Acts 2:38, adding any other requirement to salvation such as water baptism becomes 'works' in pretence. It demeans the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross and implies that His finished work is not sufficient. Water baptism is simply a step of obedience to the Lord following our repentance and confession of sin. Our obedience, that is, water baptism, prayer, good works, fellowship, evangelising and so on are issues from our faith in Christ. Salvation is not what we do, but Who we have. "He that has the Son has life" (1 John 5:12). 3 Likes 1 Share |

OLAADEGBU:Salvation from the condemnation of sin aka Death is obtained via the process of being born-again — born of water AND born of Spirit — an act which is of Faith — life in submission and obedience to the teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ. When Jesus Christ said, "You must be born of water and born of Spirit ...", that was a direct commandment contained in the New Covenant. Faith relates to submission and obedience to that direct commandment given by Jesus Christ who is the Law in the Kingdom of God. |
