He should remember his place Nsukka, it is roadless. His government should focus a bit on the rural areas.

I agree that he should also work on Nsukka zone. As for rural roads, it's a waste of resources sinking billions of naira to build roads where few people live while the urban roads that cater for heavy traffics on daily basis are dilapidated.

How many of those who want rural roads to be tarred at the expense of the more useful urban roads actually live in the village or are ready to relocate to the village even if all the roads there get tarred. Nonetheless some selected rural roads that are not motorable should be built to ease transportation of farm produce to urban centres.

We should put our priorities right to avoid economic waste, especially now that people are paying taxes. The resources available to the state government is very limited and this is where prioritizing government projects and expenses comes handy.

Are you one of those that just sit in an armchair faraway and make conclusions? Do you think Enugu has more population than all the rural areas put together? Nsukka alone will give Enugu a good run for her money in terms of population and the people who live there also deserve a comfortable life. What about the agricultural products that come from the rural areas? Going by your reasoning, the governor can even start demolishing already good roads in Enugu and rebuilding them rather than build or repair anyone in the rural areas.

No sir, I am not an arm chair analyst. I am a street or field man. I go out there to see things for myself when I have the opportunity. Last time I was in Nigeria, I visited Nsukka. As an undergraduate, I visited most parts of Nsukka zone because 90% of my friends are from that area.

Nwanaa, I am not against building of rural roads. I will be very happy if the government asphalts every road in my village but we know that will remain a pipe dream, at least for years to come because government bughet is lean.

What I am saying is that our demand from the government should run pari pasu with the resources available to the said government and limited resources should be channeled to where they are mostly needed.

Emene, Abakpa, 9th mile and Nsukka are top priorities in this administration

Since majority of the roads in Enugu city are already in good condition, what do you suggest he governor do? Demolish and rebuild them? You are not making sense sir. On what basis do you decide where the roads are mostly needed? Do you realise that more people will gladly remain in the rural areas if they can get basic amenities like good roads there?

Each community deserves a good road network. Lean purse is not an excuse and the purse might not be lean as we think. Since we did bulk of urban roads last time, reconstruction of rural roads where necessary should begin.

I completely agree with you.

Less than 20% of the population of Enugu State reside in Enugu city. By sheer numbers, that's a 4:1 victory for rural areas.

Moreso, we've taken a detour from the 90's model of development. Rural-Urban migration was such a big deal it was taught in schools. Rural dwellers were being encouraged to remain in rural areas, and concerted efforts made to keep them comfortable: rural electrification, potable water, health care infrastructure etc. Somewhere along the line, we adopted a strange, untested model of development : everyone ran off to big cities forever in search of the elusive golden fleece. Government neglect of the rural areas further entrenched this newfound model.

The model being advocated by biafrandream can only work in Lagos because it already is a conurbation of sorts, but not in Enugu with a large population in rural areas. I know what a relief the Nike-Opi Highway has turned out to be. And the offshoot from Ugwuogo-Nike to Isi Uzo has been another blessing to people of the area.

ENSG needs to replicate Udi in all the other 16 LGAs. The Udi model of rural development is where I stand.

I wish I had pictures.
What I mean is Udi rural roads are not only tarred, but are also properly marked, with sidewalks on select routes, despite not being subject to heavy use.
Also, Udi has her fair share of agro-allied industries. Nachi Oil is dead, but the idea that sited it is what I'm advocating.
9th Mile Corner is another industrial haven in that axis.
Lastly, Udi has better-developed tourist sites like Awhum Waterfalls. And it's linked to Ezeagu, Oji and Ozalla by excellent access roads.

Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has started building roads. I noticed yesterday that Emene central road is being reconstructed. Many drainages, culverts etc going on, it caused a major traffic jam in Emene yesterday but we dont mind. cheesy

Great news!
It will be wonderful to open up new roads into more vast areas of land at Emene, for more planned housing projects and industrial estates to take off in that axis of the city.

Udi is a massively developed town with tarred roads leading to every village, hamlet, bush path, farm land and even roads to their streams all tarred grin

I had many pictures, maybe I will dig it up later. I even suspect all of Sullivan's little girlfriends when he was in primary school got new roads to their fathers compounds in Udi grin

But why do our rulers rule with sentiments. As much as I'm delighted that UDI has too good motorable rural roads, I'm very concerned by Tue fact that someone who's elected to govern a whole state, decides to give preferential treatment to his area of origin ahead of others. It's the exact same thing that Chimaroake did for Agbani.

Chimaroke did the same with Agbani, and am sure Ugwuanyi will do same thing, we lack state legislative action that will guide the decisions of the governor. Those legislators are just rubber stamps, and we all know why.

Btw. Is Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi married? His wife should please visit a strong man of God before moving to the Lion building. That place is historically hostile for governor's wives.

I agree with you and I also said this here. Its also good that the governor singled out Enugu, Nsukka and Ninth mile to focus on. Is it not silly that people forget that the local govt exists? some LGA Chairmen actually try to do something but they should be made more accountable.
The state cannot do it all.

Mbaniuju tooK Anambra State University to his hometown when he was governor, Ngige came and open a campus at his hometown Aro but when Pita Obi came he moved everything to Igbariam with few departments at Uli now.
The present governor is developing his hometown with Abuja pace, the highest construction works in Anambra are going on in that area.

Just that the entire Anambra witnessed massive road network the only thing Obi brought his town is Agulu Lake Resort.

CBN in Anambra State is in Awka not Soludo's hometown of Isuofia but Ekwueme took Okopoly to his hometown of Oko.
Zik took UNN to Nsukka and Ojukwu took UNEC to Enugu.

We need to embrace our cities.
We need to build our cities first before developing the rural areas with money realized from taxes in the city.

It is not financially feasible to have the same amenities in the rural areas.

In any case if that happens it ceases to be rural and becomes urban.

Abakpa, Emene and 9th mile are about the densest parts of Enugu and are in dire need of good road network.
There is a reason why Enugu is called the coal city state.
Enugu city is the state's major attraction and revenue generator. It must always remain the priority.

I am not saying that Nsukka should be neglected but suggesting that it should get priority over Emene which harbours an international airport with a cargo terminal and is the major industrial layout of the state and thus a revenue generator is just plain folly.

He is not an idiot. He simply did things the way they're supposed to be . I hate the clannishness of our leaders. If you are the governor of Enugu state then the entire Enugu should be a priority. If you're so interested in developing your hometown, go and become a local government chairman or councilor.

I really don't get your direction but I will try.
I don't see what's wrong about oko poly being in oko. Awka might be too congested if it were put there, plus rent issues.
Unn is perfect where it is, I am even happy esut left Enugu. Otherwise, aside stress on the available infrastructures including power supply and traffic hold ups, poorer students might not pay rents .

I just want to say that FG allocations are for the whole state not the cities alone. In the case of Enugu, the city has being over embraced, we can actually turn Nsukka for eg into a city, after all there was a time Enugu capital was a complete village.
I went to my village the other time and of not that my dad is an expert driver, we wouldn't have made it. So, Oga, there is nothing wrong in developing a non capital

I think the idea of developing cities first is simply for bragging right else I don't understand how a place that houses less than 20% of the population should be given priority at the detriment of the rural areas. It just goes to show that our definition of development is skewed. The major actor in development is the people and that should be given full priority over anything else.
