pickabeau1: Interesting!. Are we talking of same bible that said the below? 1st Corinthians 14:34-35 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church I do hope you all adhere to this, else judgement awaits you all. :- |

UyiIredia: Interesting. And in which of my posts did you come to this conclusion?? Of course you'd be ready to jump into all sorts of conclusion. I'm all for equal rights and fairness in a relationship. If the women are happy and are actually supporting polygamy being legalised, I'd gladly carry out a placade to support them. 1 Like |

pickabeau1: The bible advocates slavery, it is quoted. The bible advocates women being silent in churches, it is quoted. Infact the bible advocates many things that christians discard today all in the name of old testament and what not. pickabeau1: I'm gay, and no I don't see myself a Christian. 1 Like |

masonkz: Look, I don't enjoy answering one question many times, if you can't grasp simple logic, its not my fault.... How many men called for gender equality.... It as simple as ABC, America recognises the rights of consenting adult men to marry, why must they now impinge on the right of an adult man to marry 2 consenting women? Isn't consent the base? It now falls on the woman to choose to marry or not to marry? And if married, they can divorce... QED 2 Likes |

Re: Let's Talk About Marriage(homosexuality, polygamy And Others) by Nobody: 7:25pm On Jun 29, 2015 |
pickabeau1: Lol. Wouldn't there be a slave first, before you talk about freedom?? Isn't it logical to state that yes, you can have slaves, but free them after 7 years? Anyway, here you go: Leviticus 25:44-46a Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life. Exodus 21:20-21 When a man strikes his slave, male or female, with a rod and the slave dies under his hand, he shall be avenged. But if the slave survives a day or two, he is not to be avenged, for the slave is his money 1 Like |

masonkz: Typical naive conclusion that is ignorant of the context in which that statement was made. The following excerpt from an article explains things: At first glance, this seems to be a blanket command that women are never allowed to speak at all in the church. However, earlier in the same epistle (1Corinthians 11:5), Paul mentions women’s praying and prophesying as allowable activities, and we know that older women are to teach younger women ( Titus 2:4). Therefore, 1 Corinthians 14:33–35 must not be an absolute command for women to always be silent in church. The concern of 1 Corinthians 14, and much of the epistle, is order and structure in the church. The Corinthian church was noted for the chaos and lack of order rampant in that assembly (verse 33). It is interesting that no elders or pastors are mentioned in the book, and the prophets who were there were not exercising control (see verses 29, 32, 37). Everyone in the church service was participating with whatever expression they desired, whenever they desired. As a result, those with the gift of tongues were speaking simultaneously, those with a revelation from God were shouting out randomly, and no one was concerned with interpreting what was being said, even if what was said could be heard above the din. The meetings quickly descended into chaos. Part of the confusion in the Corinthian church included women speaking in tongues and prophesying; these women were taking the lead in the services instead of being submissive to the authorities in the church (see 1 Timothy 2:11–15). Apparently, certain women in the Corinthian church were also out of order in disruptively asking questions during the already chaotic services. http://www.gotquestions.org/women-silent-church.html The site is an excellent resource for answers to dilemmas regarding Christianity. 1 Like |

UyiIredia: So lemme get this straight, i have to consult an article while reading a bible . LMFAO Y'all got me on a roll tonight I thought the bible was explanatory enough. Now I have to consult an article before knowing whether to believe the bible for what it is or not. Maybe I should also translate that article in my language and attach as an addendum to the bible and sell to the people at my villa. What do you think? 1 Like |

masonkz: Again, I ask, how many men called for gender equality.... Women cannot clamour for polygamy, they are free to go for polyandry to even things out... Mind you, not all men like polygamy, but you don't see them up in arms against it... Because polygamy hurts no one... Marriage is a choice... if you don't wwant polygamy, don't marry into or stay in one.mm |

masonkz: I have. Polygamy involves mutual consent just as monogamy does, there are women supportive of and/or engaging in it. in the US there are polyamorous relationships as I've explained, read up on it. Given all these, you should have no qualms with polygamy or polyandry or same-sex marriages involving more than 2 partners as the case may be. |

UyiIredia: As I've stated, I have no problem with all the above. People's concern is actually WHY polygamy isn't legalised in the US, hence why I asked if women in the US are calling for the courts to legalise it, cos all I see is men agitating for it. Simple. |
Re: Let's Talk About Marriage(homosexuality, polygamy And Others) by Nobody: 7:36pm On Jun 29, 2015 |
njokusboy: Again, I've addressed this. Men already had the freedom that women were clamouring for. So it was more or less a one sided scale. Oh, and yes, the men were actually the ones that approved gender equality. Afterall, men ruled the courts in those days. So, |

masonkz: We were always on the topic The Bible angle came in with myself and Francis You dont take store by the bible so no issue there Afterall Marriage Equality is now allowed That means taxes for the govt, divorce settlements now being paid by richer individuals to others.. basically the same whatnots about MARRIAGE so lets see how it goes The major issue people have is the seeming intolerance by th gay crowd although one could say they experienced that too for so long Even the marriage institution itself is not as it used to be anyway |
Re: Let's Talk About Marriage(homosexuality,polygamy And Others) by UyiIredia(m): 7:39pm On Jun 29, 2015 |
masonkz: I think you are being foolish. The Bible is an anthology of books written by people over different time periods. As with any other literary work, it's statements must be understood within the general context of the Bible itself and its historical context. In the case of women being silent in churches, that article clearly showed that it wasn't an absolute command, since in other verses Paul allowed that women could pray and prophesy. 1 Like |
