Is This New Trend Really Helping Our Young Ones? Or A Damage by yinkard4me(m): 8:02pm On Jun 29, 2015 |
Good day. please i have something bothering me for a while now.i have argued it with some close friends; while some are for it, some are against it. i cant help but shake my head anytime i see primary school pupils closing by 4pm, some 5pm only to get home for another private home lesson(tutorials), with a minimum of one hour... haba!!! i thought this trend (as i call it) happens only in the state where i resided until i relocated here and discovered its all over here too. infact i had to politely ask a woman in my neighborhood why her 4yrs old daughter had to close in school as late as 5pm the answer was 'abeg let her stay oooo', she disturbs her too much at home. haaaa is this not too much a friend said this is due to laziness on parents' part as they now leave everything to teachers. Moms and dads, what are your views on this? when do this children rest 1 Like |

Its sad really. My neighbour's 6yr old son resumes by 7.30am closes by 3pm, stays back for lessons till 6pm. Even on saturdays he leaves by 9am and returns around 4pm. I'm like wtf, is he preparing for JAMB or what? He's usually so exhausted he falls asleep as soon as he gets home. 1 Like |

When FOB Nigerians move here and their kids were assessed in school to determine the appropriate grade placement. I'm not exaggerating, less than I remenbered my cousin started school @exactly 1yr old, I'm talking KG1 where they teach letters & numbers my 6 year old kindergartener just started. I don't get it. OP so maybe they need that after school kumon. What I detest is kumon during summer break. Let kids be kids abeg. |

As an educationist, I've raised this on different fora. Let parents kill their children to make them learn. It's their business. Children need a lot of sleep and play but it's sad that most schools are owned by business men who know nothing about education hence parents are gullible and cajoled for money in different ways. 1 Like 1 Share |

That's because people who don't have business establishing schools are establishing them . school don turn business centre because people have seen its lucrative. They'll do after school lessons, tutorials and orisirisi. They'll sha give it different names just to get money from various sources from parents at the expense of these children children wey be say 7-2pm they're mentally drained and exhausted, parents will still force them to di after school tutorials just because they see them as disturbances. The school management don't care about kids welfare. All they're interested in is their parents welfare. It's really bad. I don't even know what the so called universal basic education, ministry of education, ministry of women and children affairs are doing sef. Their own is to send representatives that will stroll around the school premises with big big geles and say they've inspected the school |

It depends on the kind of programs the schools run. If they put in a lot of play time for the kids, then I don't think it's bad. That way the school doubles as both daycare and school for the kids. For parents who live in Nigeria (or other places for that matter) and have to work, there may be no other alternative. If I were them, I'll just make sure the activities of the centers include plenty of play time because as we all know, healthy mammals play. Another thing would be rest. If they put the kids to rest too after every few hrs. These are things the school proprietors need to understand and Adher to. 1 Like |
