People ask me, what are the prospects for Animations in Nigeria. How do you make money and what's the range as regards salaries. The truth of the matter is, i don't know much about animators in Nigeria myself and i'm probably just one over-zealous die-hard futuristic freak, in a way and for me an honest answer would be. Get to know it first, then you can have something to say about it. I've had the opportunity of securing a good animation job through this very Nairaland site and i wasn't even thirty percent as good as i am today. Well thank God i listened to a lot of advices, criticisms and was stubborn about my goals back then, i probably would have ended up where i was three years ago or at best three months ago. Yeah, people commend you, money gets into your brain and you suddenly have the feeling that you have arrived. But you've not. As a matter of fact there's always much to learn. The walk pattern for a dog is different from that of a lion or a horse. A bird doesn't fly like a butterfly and many more stuffs like that. But these are secondary and no one may crucify you if you don't get this right.

If you do not understand flow. If you do not know what arc to use, how and when you can or should manipulate them then you'ld have problems as well. These things are frustrating to understand and no matter how many books that talks about "the principles of animations" that you have in your collection, they'll still be a waste of time and this will mostly remind you of the saying that goes like "the more you look, the less you..." I've heard people talk and go back and forth as regards animations, it's a hell of a job. This one single discipline stops the move from making Nollywood into Hollywood, even with the best of cameras. Tell me how you are going to achieve making a film like The X-Men, Avengers, Spider-Man or even 300 without Animations. It's wild and it's wide and if you decide to go ahead to make a film while still in the regions of half baked, just because you know how to use the move tool then you've got something else coming. People have got eyes brov, they see and you cant force them to accept what there brain reject.

Ok, so a lot of Nigerian Animation Studios have been making the rounds lately. Each of them coming out with a statement and featured on Linda Ikeji. Some others i have seen on YouTube and Facebook and not all of them have a reel to show so that you can have an idea of what to expect when they hit the screens. This is a welcome development if you ask me and it shows that Nigeria is beginning to look somewhere else for income which brings me to the reason why i'm making this post and to an extent has answered the question in my first lines. How Prepared are you? Can you confidently create a convincing walk cycle of any kind? Do you understand the change in shapes that occur in movements and why? What is the body related to in Animation and how does Pixar or other Big Studios see it and think about it.

In about a year or two, there'll be so much going down this path and then wont be the time to learn. The time to learn would be NOW. You need help, email chimatic@gmail.com. I don't run a charity organization, I charge to teach Animations.

We are already 150 years behind the Americans or whites in general if you like. Dont make it worse, Bridge that gap. Get something that you'ld be proud to show off and pass down to others. Stand out from the crowd. Learn 3D Animations.

I've always been interested in this stuff but I dont know where to start.
I see myself being a part of an animated feature movie made in Nigeria but of international standard.

You can start either on your own or look for a mentor to make things easier. If its somethin u crave dat much, i‘ll advice u begin now especially if you are talking international standards. Animation is for the creative mind also, its very lucrative.

Some years back when i just began Animating, i stumbled onto one of Jeff Lew's Demos. In case you don't know, Jeff created the "Killer Bean" Animated short with the fantastic fight scenes. Anyways, here i was watching Jeff demonstrate and talk about Animations. At the time it was fun and easy. Deep within me, i knew that this was what i wanted to do. Ok, so i get home fire up 3dsmax, psyched and pumped myself up and tried all i learnt previously but... to no avail.
I gave it a second short the next day but same thing happened. I went back for the video if there was something i missed out but i got denied again. And this is Jeff Lew we are talking about right here. It's not that he's not a good teacher, it's just that i wasn't on the level at which he was transmitting his frequency. And that same thing happens almost every time with people trying to learn Animations especially in this part of the world. The Big deal is, The Youtube Videos don't come first. Learning how to apply the principles does. You need somebody to put you on that level. So if you are tired of going round and round, downloading videos that you don't understand jack about what they are talking about, but you really want to learn how to animate, then Email: chimatic@gmail.com for more inquiries. Payments, terms and conditions will apply so it's not for free.
