More of Obollo Afor... As you can see, people actually live in these rural areas, contrary to what some fools say.

ZeroTolerance:it's obvious Enugu North senatorial district has been neglected for the past 16yrs. But you can't get the desired attention through name calling or insults. Mind you obollo afor is one of the towns that have gotten government attention even if it's "just" one road. There are many towns in uzouwani that have never appeared in the news for anything good or bad. Probably the government doesn't know they exist. Even election campaigns rarely reach them. (very bad Rocky and dusty road, no gsm service, no water, no electricity, no functional health centre, dilapidated schools etc). I had the opportunity of visiting one of the towns and I was struck with the hardship people in this same Enugu "obodo Oyibo" pass through. Someone actually bragged another town was still further down and his town was "london" compared to them. Currently trying to lobby for a rural outreach programme for some of them but convincing volunteers hasn't been easy. So brother thank God you are from obollo afor and pray this government remembers the area this time. 2 Likes |

ZeroTolerance: At least you have agreed that the last government did any roads at all in Nsukka zone. People would have thought the area is abandoned. How I wish all roads could be built at the same time. I live in Port Harcourt and even with billions in free oil revenue, most roads are worse than Obollo afor roads. 2 Likes |

spyder880:Oga you are just deceiving yourself. So 1 road in the midst of hundreds of bad roads now makes Obollo Afor comparable to PH? Even Enugu city will struggle to compete with PH in that aspect. You asked for the face of Obollo Afor and the Pic I provided is exactly that because that is how 99% of the roads there are. |

ZeroTolerance: Going by your mentality, then anyone that showed any paved road in Nigeria or well built house is wrong for that because more streets in Nigeria are untarred than the tarred ones, just as many more Nigerians don't live in mansions showed in Nairaland. I can categorically state that your reasoning is flawed. There is no absolute in life. A little of everything. Even in the most advanced or wealthiest countries, there still some untarred roads as there are poor people. You should show the untarred roads as what has not been done well, just as showing the tarred ones as example of what was done well. That is called having a balanced view. 1 Like |

knowledgeable: Cool bros, though I might not be ready for it but In my own little way I will always push for it, one of my major goals in to unified Igbo people especially from the Western Igboland to look Eastward. I was in Asaba on Monday and I saw a massive flyover there, do you know the name of the gigantic flyover, its Ekwumekwu Flyover. Many of our youths in Igboland don't know about Ekwumekwu but they know about Oyedepo, Adebayo, Sango, Dan Fodio and El Kanemi. Igbos have really suffered in Nigeria and because of the way igboland is fragmented its always easy for distractors to penetrate. I know what ignorance is causing , a united Igboland will unsettle Nigeria that is why nobody wants to see that happen, do you see how Ikwerre were hurriedly regarded as an ethnic nationality?. Last time I went to SabMiller Onitsha to visit a friend, I saw in their gate a banner about a quiz competition they were organising for Eastern junior schools, when I saw that two schools from Asaba were participating in the competition I was elated because am seeing that the corporate world is gradually breaking down the frontier and this is what I want to do with the resources God will bless me with. Imagine what the Unity in Igboland did when Zik's NCNC candidate Dennis Osadebey won the Midwest Region defeating Awolowo's AG that was controlling the region as mother Western region before. We need to extend that hand of brotherhood, I don't see the reason while SE should be pro Ijaw but too cold to Anioma despite how the Ijaws treated us in the past. Whether some Anioma are rejecting being Igbos shouldn't be the problem but not engaging the ignorant person on reasonable conversation is, don't throw away the baby with the bathing water. Please when your done reading this kindly open the book of Nehamiah 1 vs 1-11 for Igbos all over the world trying to make ends meet in legitimate way. 7 Likes |

eaglechild: Abakpa and Emene infrastructure hold the key to the continued developement of the entire Enugu urban, you can imagine how chaotic it will be for squatters to invade the whole of urban Enugu and build all manner of shanties everywhere. The way to keep them at bay is to develop these little towns in the outskirts, 1. We can do a major road in Emene, maybe a dual carriage if possible, 2. Run good roads into Nkwubor and Ugwomu 3. Link Ugwuomu to Amorji, or run all the way and connect Nkwubor to either Ugwuogo Nike or Mbu in Isi Uzo lga 4. You will succeed in achieving two things at the same time, keep the villagers busy as more people move in to buy farm produce, then you decongest Enugu as more people build and start doing business in Emene and environs 5. Private housing estates and commercial farmers will chase all the lands inside till Mbu Akpoti in Isi Uzo lga 3 Likes |

cjrane:Did you read the post I quoted at all? He said I was misleading people by posting that picture saying it's not the face of Obollo Afor. However, 99% of the roads in Obollo Afor are like that, so it's actually the face of Obollo Afor. So I should leave all the bad roads surrounding me in Obollo Afor to go on a long search for one good road wherever it's hidden to satisfy who? 1 Like |

Besides, repairing the few remaining bad roads in Enugu does not the govt him from constructing/repairing roads other places. 1 Like |

There is no reason why Nsukka and environs cannot get a massive face lift alongside the development projects in Enugu IMO Abandoning Enugu would be tantamount to betrayal and craziness and not lifting Nsukka would be plain bureaucratic stupidity Is there even a thing like that? Anyway...my point is that success for Ugwuanyi is dependent on how he handles this He has deep gloves to fill....Mr Chime's.... That is no easy feat I wish him well We do not need to become a laughing stock, at all Not after this exciting sail we have had in the past eight years Is it evident my political talk saavy is poor? ZeroTolerance: The population theory holds water.Enugu city has the most population density. The major reason why goverments want people to urbanize is so that development can be focused. |
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by cjrane: 1:13am On Jul 03, 2015 |
Everything boils down to good planning. Chime has already demonstrated that even the poorest revenue allocated state like Enugu, can plan well and still perform better than the highest revenue allocated states. Enugu can continue to develop as well as Nsukka. They should start with major roads in Nsukka. You don't have to do everything immediately, but use good quality contractors such as Arab contractors to ensure every project completed is of the highest world class quality. Ugwuanyi in his inaugural speech spoke about developing Emene - 9th mile area as Enugu's free trade and industrial zone. Of course he can lay the ground work for this by planning the area to the highest international standard. Demarcating areas for new residential estates, industrial zone and recreational parks within this huge expanse of land. Then begin to attract industrialists to buy plots in the industrial zone and property developers as Spyder to develop new housing estates in the residential part. Once people know the whole place is planned like Obodo oyibo standard and government opens up the first feeder roads and electricity lines even if the roads are not tarred, those industrialists and property developers will come. Especially in this day and age when Igbos are looking for great industrial layouts to relocate or set up a new investment in the east. So, the first step is to make a solid modern plan and then follow the plan a little each year based on availability of funds. In the picture below, several areas were earmarked for "future development". Which means, the government can acquire the area and then develop small portions of it in phases. 10 Likes

The FTZ area will be about a 15 sq. km in size. That will be a fantastic new Enugu city! It already has an International airport and a railway line to the ONNE port for export/Import. Two vital requirements for a FTZ to succeed. It will be a stunning new opportunity to replicate Abuja style planning in Enugu! If we can build a road like in the picture below to link Enugu-Abakaliki road at Emene, to the Enugu-Nsukka road at 9th mile. We would have opened a whole new city for development in our lifetime. 9 Likes

ZeroTolerance:I don't know where you got your population stats from but Enugu state has an estimated population of about 3.26million with a density of 460/sqKm, while Enugu city has an estimated population of 722, 000 with a density of 17, 000/sqKm. What i'm simply trying to make you realise is why your analogy is flawed. Abakpa and Emene are more densely populated hence road construction there will impact more lives than it would in the rural area both in economic and social terms. Of course like I said earlier I believe the government should be able to handle rehabilitation of Obollo Afor roads, but in a situation where they have to choose we all know where the priority lies. |
