"Chris, what are you doing here?" Tina asked fearfully as she saw Chris walking down the hallway.
"I came to check if the food is ready." Chris replied, guilt written all over him like a child caught stealing.
"Are you sure?" Tina asked unconvinced. Even though she knew Chris doesn't tell lies, her greatest fear was having said all she told her mother while he was eavesdropping. But on a second thought, a child of Chris age won't be so happy if he found out who his father was.
"Yes mum. What else will I be doing outside the kitchen?"
"Eavesdropping?" Tina replied.
"No way!" Chris said as a matter of factly. "What would I be listening to sef?" He asked.
"Never mind." Tina said as she led the way towards the living room.
"You are leaving already?" Chris asked as he tried to keep up with his mother's long strides.
"Yes darling." Tina replied, and instantly she froze as she saw her father in the living room.
Why she was always afraid of the man was something she can't explain.
"Be a good boy and don't give grandma problems. You should help out with the house chores, okay?" Tina admonished.
"Yes mum." Chris grudgingly replied.
"Your books should be your priority. Your exam starts in two weeks, and according to the principal, the school would be re-opened for the duration of the exam, but with presence of police and soldiers. You might not have the time to read under trees before the exam cos your movement inside the school would be restricted. The more reason why you should read all you can here."
"Mum! I know when to read and when not to. And to me Chris, my books first." Chris replied assuringly.
"That's why I love you." Tina bent and pecked him on the cheek. "Be a good boy. Bye dad." With this, she exited her parent's house.
------------------------------------------
Mark walked into the FBI director's office.
"Good morning Mark." The director greeted stretching him hand for a handshake which Mark ignored before taking a seat opposite him. "I am Wole."
"I know." Mark replied.
Even though offended by Mark's rudeness, Wole knew there was nothing he could do or say.
"I was going through the attendance sheet and I realised you didn't sign when you came in, why?"
Mark gave a is-that-why-you-summonned-a-whole-me look.
"I didn't sign the attendance sheet because I don't know when I came in. From the moment I drove in and the time I spent before walking into the building is more than a minute, and since I didn't check the time, I would either be lying on the attendance sheet or on the other hand be lying whichever ways." Mark replied.
"Am not joking." Wole said.
"Neither am I." Mark replied as he picked the log book for attendance.
"Listen to me young man. This is Nigeria where things are done in order not like America."
"Sorry sir, but in the first place, I am not answerable to you." Mark replied.
"Says who? The FBI director asked.
"Is that why I am here?" Mark asked irritatedly.
"Listen to me Agent Mark. I won't have you go against the existing protocol here. This is the FBI and you know how integral the agency is the the department of defence. The N.A.T.U was asked to join the FBI as a result of the ufortunate incident of yesterday. And as long as you are here, the FBI is in charge. You will be issued a FBI Identity card, a FBI badge and of course a clearance keycard. I guess, you know what that means."
"And the FBI business is the same with N.A.T.U?" Mark asked.
"I don't know what business you are talking about, but in the real sense, FBI investigates and reports to N.A.T.U. And in this case, we run a single business. And anyhow you try to place it, FBI is in charge."
Mark looked round the office for the first time.
"Is that all?" Mark asked, and just then, the door into the office opened and Tony walked in.
"Hello Wole." Tony said sitting down beside Mark. "Hey." He said patting Mark on the back.
"Hello Tony." Wole replied and stretched his hand forward to collect a spiral banded memo.
Wole perused over the memo for a while and silence enveloped the room.
"Who made this available?" He asked.
"I met with Collins and he gave them to me." Tony replied.
"Something is missing." Wole announced.
"Yeah. The statistics from the field operations." Tony said.
"Yeah. Where is it?"
"I was made to understand that, the field operators have a different report log book and it is always kept with the director of the department." Tony explained.
"And that is?"
"Christina James." Tony replied.
"She is yet to report for the day, but I guess Mark here can get her on phone." Tony said with a wink and Mark's jaw twitched.

Aside the fact that he hates Tony's guts and presence, he hates his existence as a whole and to make matters worse, his involvement with Kimberly was another reason.
Wole's phone rang that moment. "Excuse me for a moment." With this he walked out of the office into an ajoining door.
"We should be friends, you know." Tony broke the silence.
Mark looked at him briefly and looked away angrily.
"I don't think so. I hate you." Mark replied.
"am glad to hear that, but until the government provides another office space for N.A.T.U, you will continue to see me. Deal with it, I will always give reports to you and together we shall device means of approaching problems." Tony explained with a smile. "In that case, expect some unexpected pop ins. I might show in your house on sundays, because our association requires constant physical conversations."
"Can you shut your mouth and quit talking?" Mark said angrily.
"Like right now. I am shutting up." Tony said raising his hands up in defeat. "And to say myself and your wife are friends." He muttered.
From nowhere, Mark landed a heavy punch on his face and dragged him up, slamming his back against the wall.
"Don't bring my wife into this." Mark warned.
"Kimberly." Tony smiled.
Mark tightened the grip he has on his neck.
"What's going on guys?" Wole came rushing out of the ajoining room.
"His blood dey hot." Tony mocked, after Wole had succeeded in seperating them.
"I will frustrate the hell out of you. Every muscle exerted by you shall be met with a smile from me." Tony said calmly.
"Stay away from her." Mark warned before storming out of the office.
"What was that about?" Wole asked.
"The American babe I told you about. She is his wife."

The way you painting this Marks rudeness is too much. You making it look more like racism and in real sense, its not okay.

The way you painting this Marks rudeness is too much. You making it look more like racism and in real sense, its not okay.
I don't really understand what you are driving at, but I disagree with you on the fact that Mark is a racist.
Forget the fact that the story is a fiction. There is a difference between superiority complex as a result of expertise or where you are coming from and superiority complex as a result of your color(race)
Discussing the former, Mark has a bit(if not in high quantity) of pride in him. He believes he is the next best thing after a pack of cigarett. I don't blame him cos when you put into consideration where he was coming from(America) He was invited to help the Nigerian forces. What does that tell you? You can't boss him around.
If you think Mark is a racist cos he doesn't take handshake at first meeting. Its in his nature. I have seen people like that.
I have a neighbour who will respond to your greeting after repeating yourself countless times. He obviously heard you the first time, but he will fix his eyes on you, looking for a fault in your appearance(especially your haircut) if satisfied, he will respond. By then, you probably might be on the bike ready to zoom off. Shey you get?
My neighbour is not a racist, but a principled man who allowed certain things affect him such that he behaves like someone from the Uranus.
Taking into consideration, superiority complex as a result of color(race) Mark is a Nigerian American. As a matter of fact, he is a full blooded Nigerian but American cos he has lived a particular number of years in the country. Why should he be racist?
Why play the race card on ourselves? It will get us nowhere.
If I say Stuff46 is olodo cos he had 30% in an exam, meanwhile, I had 30.1% in the same exam. Aren't we both olodos? That's simply how racism looks.
If I call you a monkey cos you are black, mesef no be blue skinned na. We are both black.
And permit me to say, if at all I am painting Mark as a racist, it spices up the story. Considering how Kim bonded well with Tony(a Nigerian) but Mark have not really enjoyed such bonding with Tina, Tony, Collins or any other person.
And taking us back into the books. There is something called a round character and a flat character. Mark is a round character since he is a major character and you don't expect him to be perfect such that it allows readers to predict his next line of action. If he is handsome, well built, a gentleman, broad shoulders, compassionate, loving, caring, humble, cool headed, gentle and rich, he don turn Jesus be that.
As we see his numerous good side, lets see some bad side of his.
But I still maintain my stance, the Mark character is in no way a racist.
I appreciate your criticism and I will work on it. Maybe some thhings are a little exxaggerated, I'll check it.

That's why you have to read the story.
Presently, Mark's sister is unimportant in the scheme of things. When she is needed, she will definitely appear.
