In Matthew 5:3 Jesus said to the multitudes that came to listen to him that '' Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.''

The question now is, what did He meant when he said; Blessed are the poor in spirit?

A spirit not loaded with material things of this world, a spirit which is not loaded with religious junks from listening to/practicing different beliefs. A poor spirit is one thats longing for God alone to fill it up, not bf/gf or fleshly desires

Blessed are poor in spirit are those that believe in d word of God but at times their faith fails them 4 one reason or d other. Despite those failures they are still steadfast in their belief. Such people are said to be poor in spirit. Ideally at d peak of one's faith we are meant to call things to be 4 d word of God is creative. " Let there be light " and there was light.

The word of God sbould be instantanious but because of a poor spirit we cannot fulfil our desires. Hence d saying " Blessed are d poor in spirit " .

God helping me through the Lord Jesus, i have come to understand that those who are poor in spirit do rejoice because it is only in this state of one's spirit can one be able to see the Kingdom of God. But we must understand that all sinners are poor in spirit, and that means all of us, for all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. Rom 3:23 .

However, Jesus was not referring to all when he said poor in spirit but only those who have genuinely come to see their need for God. Those who have been blessed with the desire to hunger for the living bread and thirst after righteousness. It is only the poor in spirit that answers the call of the saviour

Isaiah 55:1 " Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye,
buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk
without money and without price.

John 7:37 " In the last day, that great day of the feast,
Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man
thirst, let him come unto me, and drink."

To buttress this, There were generally two kinds of sinners that surrounded Christ during His earthly ministry. The 'poor in spirit' sinners and the self-righteous sinners. The former consisted mostly of his disciples and the latter, well of pharisees, scribes, Sadducees and others, resting on their works.

To them who were depending on their goodness, he said " I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to
repentance." Luke 5:32

They were sinners who did not think there was anything wrong with them. As long as they performed their religious duties and kept the law to the best of their understanding, they were good to go. So they thought. These cannot heed the calling of Christ.

Those who know they are sinners AND CANNOT SEE ANYTHING IN THEMSELVES THAT IS GOOD BEFORE GOD BUT ONLY WRETCHED AND LOST SOULS WHO ARE DOOMED IF GOD SAVES THEM NOT, are the poor in spirit who will eventually heed the calling of their saviour, by the power of the Holy spirit.

Simply put, He meant:
Cursed are the rich in flesh, for theirs not, is the Kingdom of Heaven

The "cursed" part is the rude awakening the "rich" in "the works of the flesh", in "legalism", in "dogmatism" etcetera
gets concerning the qualification for Kingdom of Heaven
