agaugust: Augustus why are you trying to argue? You were wrong, the Hyhena was produced in 1972, the Leopard in 1974 Hyena is the first MRAP Just concede that you were mistaken, there is nothing wrong with making a mistake, and move on. This is not the place for argument |

jln115: They are in talks with ITV for a rival show, to be aired at the same prime time slot as Top Gear. They are also in talks with a U.S. based company for world wide distribution of the show, it's either Amazon prime or Netflix. Everyone here in the UK knows the new top gear presenter is a w@nk£r, his ego is bigger than a C130. The guys at the Beeb are just wasting tax payer's money, they felt once you have many expensive cars, you automatically would be a good presenter. 1 Like |

Henry120: Talking and posting pics of these early MRAPs is not a bad idea though. Some of them where bonkers. There are 2 books on the subject. "Taming the landmine" and "surving the ride". Both good and worth a read. |

andrewza: Posting photos and discussing about the photos is great, however total off-topic posting is a no no. Doing that and we would eventually run down this thread. |

Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 12:44pm On Jul 05, 2015 |
Patchesagain: I don't know for sure, but FOMAC forces from cameroun have always had the FAMAS. Camerounian soldiers carry the AK-47 as well as the FAMAS, while their Special forces unit (BIR) get issued Tavor-21s, Galil ACE, Negev LMG and some high powered sniper rifle. |

. Tracing the Origins of 'Mine-' and 'Blast-Resistant' Vehicles Stephen Priestley, Researcher, Canadian American Strategic Review (CASR) http://www.casr.ca/id-blast-resistant-vehicles-2.htm " Rhodesian Leopard mine-resistant vehicle are made in South Africa . The APVs are part of a complex lineage of blast-resistant vehicles developed on that troubled continent. That line began in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) with a series of highly bizarre, mine-resist- ant types set on commercial chassis (eg: VW-based Leopard, and Pookie). Those early vehicles were mostly built as mine-detector vehicles but they showed the way with high ground-clearance and monocoque crew compartments with a V- shaped bottom. The next step was incorporating that structure into other vehicles. As conversions of existing types, Rhodesian mine-blast-resistant vehicles were quick to construct and made use of readily-available components. This did not go unnoticed in neighbouring South Africa facing its own anti-apartheid 'bush war'. The threats were the same: landmine blasts from below and AK-47 rifle bullets. 'Body-on-Frame' Construction – the South Africans Follow a Rhodesian Lead The first South African blast-resistant vehicles were a series of Kwêvoël trucks (Samil-built Deutz 4x4s and 6x6s with armoured cabs) followed by a fully armoured personnel carrier derivative – Hippo. Buffel, a more sophisticated armoured carrier type followed. All consisted of V-bottom armour compartments over truck frames." There were several early South African vehicles very similar to the Rhodesian conversions – Hyena , Wolf, and Ribbok (an antelope). Kwêvoël is Afrikaans for a turaco (Corythaixoides). Buffel is Afrikaans for the Cape buffalo (Syncerus Caffer) .
