It could be a corrupted user profile. Log in with a different user account to confirm.

What version of operating system is your PC running? What error message are you getting? Verify that the modem is compatible with your operating system. If it's an older modem, you may need to update the firmware.

And you would be buying a system based on the untested and unknown model of battery you have?

Kudos for all the works you are doing here.

I use Toshiba Satellite c660 laptop, Windows 7 ultimate and I discovered recently that it misbehaves. On the home page, if i just try to press anything, the cursor will start moving up and down. And I discovered that the lower arrow key is not working again.

I was abt backing up and formating it since all the free and virus that I have have not detected any virus ( avast and smadav), then I discovered this thread.

I discovered this problem began when I used one flash drive from a friend one time like that.

Please help me, what's my next action.

best is install the ol system new...but,all your datas will be lost...next time you install a system,think of security measures first,,,like usb-sticks or your smartphone as backup for your important datas.....

i use simple notepad...to backup my infos....its simple and small...and not manipulateble....

pls gurus in the house I have a system that had both Ubuntu 14.04 and Windows 8.1 running on it and everything was fine until one day, when I tried to turn it on (i.e the windows 8.1), it refused to come up after the windows loading symbol, it was showing a black screen. I had to force shut it down and restart it for more than 10 times before it could come up and it still took nothing less than 10minute to load all the icons on the home screen,after that if I tried to open any folder or file it would stutter for more than 30 seconds sometimes longer and it was showing me "not responding " on top of the tab before it coluld open the folder and the system was generally very slow. The Ubuntu too was slow.

That is how I was using it before I took it to computer village, I told them to remove the windows 8.1 and Ubuntu and replace them with only windows 7.windows 7 was installed on it but some features and app refuse to install and the stuttering was still there, so the person told me that the hard disk is faulty and that is reason why it is running very slow.

My question now, is the problem from the hard disk?

If it is from the hard disk, can I repair it?

If it is not possible to repair it, how much do you think I can get a 320gb hard disk (although the hard disk in the system is 500gb) ?

1st scan the hard disk for errors..right click on c: den click properties,tools,check for errors... make sure u tick both boxes then click ok.it will tell u it has scheduled it for ur next restart.when this is done,restart ur computer and allow it run check disk

Try booting up the ubuntu, shutdown properly to ensure the mount points are all properly unmounted. Then boot into windows and try running some maintainance utilities, chkdsk, defrag and windows cleanup. Reboot into windows and see if that helps.
Also, while booted in windows checkin the system properties to ensure your RAM modules are recognised and counting towards the total system RAMM. e.g. you know you have 2 sticks of 4GB RAM, but instead of seeing an 8GB total, you only see 4GB.
Lets see how far that helps.

This just made my day. Lol. You could easily have a dead battery or a 1985 laptop battery.
Chairman, biko throw the battery away, buy a new laptop (complete with battery), and enjoy.

Run chkdsk /r C: from an elevated command prompt, where C is the drive letter of the hard disk in question. You may want to check the physical RAM too. How much physical RAM is installed on your system?

Is the optical drive visible in the Computer folder? When you insert a CD into the drive, do you hear it spin? Try a few other CDs.

Is the HDD LED on? Connect your laptop to an external monitor. If it displays, you have a faulty laptop monitor or a loose connection. If it does not display on the external monitor, check the physical RAM.
